The Demon Kings Cowardly Vessel - Chapter 321
When they were discussing this earlier, they were distracted by the feeling of being watched and completely forgotten about it. Now that they were free, Juin could not help but be reminded of it again.
“Can you still see them?” Lucifer asked absentmindedly.
Juin nodded. He looked at the workers at the lower deck and nodded. “I can see it on them as well, but theirs are quite dim compared to the auras on Master Shawn and Crown Prince Warrick.”
Lucifer nodded. He floated down so that he’s standing right in front of Juin. Looking into Juin’s eyes to make sure that the other guy was asleep, he then said, “I think the pill that Eranos gave you had somehow activated your Soul Discerning Eyes.”
“Soul Discerning Eyes?”
“For others, they usually have to learn it like how you learn spells, but for demons, it’s one of the things that we are born with. We have to start protecting ourselves from a young age, and if we can’t win, we have to know when we should run. The Soul Discerning Eyes help the young demons decide whether or not to pick a fight with someone.”
Juin thought about it for a while before slamming a fist down on his palm in realization. “Ah! Like a fight or flight ability!”
“Sort of,” Lucifer shrugged. “The problem is, with this ability, you can only see the auras of those who are around your level or weaker than you. You won’t be able to see the auras of those who are way stronger than you.”
“Like Eranos?”
Lucifer nodded. “Like Eranos. I’m surprised you can see Warrick’s aura. It’s either you have grown stronger again, or that he’s grown weaker.”
“Or both,” Juin murmured. He looked down at his hands. “The pill changed something in me. I don’t really know how, but… I feel a lot stronger now.”
Lucifer raised a brow. “Training?”
Juin nodded. “Let’s go.”
…
“Err…” Juin’s first thought was, “Why is he here?!”
For some reason, he could see Hades dangling there, still fast asleep and looking extremely peaceful.
That wasn’t the main point.
The main point was that this was the first time he could see Hades directly in his Soul Dimension!
“What’s happening here?” He nudged Lucifer, who was standing next to him with his eyes on Hades.
“I have no idea…” Lucifer mumbled. He pinched his glabella as he continued, “This guy suddenly appeared here after I woke up. I thought he would be gone with you here, but it looks like I’m wrong…”
He glanced at Juin and wondered if this had anything to do with the fact that Juin could now see auras. In addition, what Juin told him about the dream that he had after he took Eranos’ pill made Lucifer feel unease. So far, he had yet to detect any other anomaly with Juin’s body, but with Juin’s constitution, who knew what could really be going on…
Uncomfortable with the way Lucifer was looking at him, Juin frowned and gingerly took a step backward as he asked, “What are we going to do?”
“Stop asking me questions that I have no answers to!” Lucifer snapped at him after a moment of hesitation. “He’s part of you! Ask yourself!”
Taken aback, Juin froze for a second. A wronged expression then appeared on his face as he glanced at Lucifer. “B-but… I don’t- NOTHING!”
Juin immediately shut up when Lucifer glared at him while releasing a strong murderous aura.
‘This guy really hates Hades, huh?’ Juin thought to himself as he gave one last glance at Hades.
After a while, he asked in a soft voice, “So… Training?”
“Let’s go further away,” Lucifer said as he floated up. “If he gets hit with any of our attacks, we would be in danger since the chains are protecting him, and don’t forget, they can amplify the original attacks and reflect them.”
He then flew off in a direction without waiting for a response. Truth be told, Lucifer was as far away from being his usual self as possible. There were too many mysteries about Juin’s body, as well as what happened when he wielded the Sword of the Daemon King. Lucifer could not understand why he lost control of himself.
According to the records in the royal library back in Alercane, as well as what Izzy told him before, the Sword of the Daemon King would recognize the descendants of its creator… In that case, why would it try to take control of him?
‘Unless…’ Lucifer thought with a scary expression as he flew, ‘It deems that there’s a better descendant around… Or the sword wants to take over Juin’s body as well?’
It was not unheard of for a powerful weapon to take over its owner’s body by controlling its owner’s consciousness. A demonic weapon like the Sword of the Daemon King could get its power by absorbing the life essences of those it killed… By reaping enough lives, it could rank up and eventually develop a consciousness of its own.
‘But…’ Lucifer shook his head and thought, ‘The control was too strong. I completely lost control of myself and Hades managed to take over. A developed consciousness wouldn’t be able to control me to that extent… And why did Hades manage to control himself? The sword wanted blood, that was for sure. Yet Eranos managed to escape unharmed.’
He suddenly stopped in midair and frowned. ‘Unless the consciousness used to belong to someone…’
Turning so abruptly, he startled Juin who was right behind him.
“The dragon!” Lucifer gasped when he recalled the dragon that came out of the sword.
“Wh-what?” Juin stuttered as he rubbed his c.h.e.s.t lightly. “You startled me…”
Lucifer ignored him and looked past his shoulder. His sharp eyes were on Hades as his mind started to race with thoughts of what he learned in Alercane before.
‘I thought that the dragon was part of the sword’s ability, an image created by the spell. After all, I learned the spell from the Book of the Daemon King… but what if the dragon is really within the sword and that the spell was created by taking this fact into account? Dragons were abundant back in the old days, and I remembered Izzy telling me that some people would forge weapons using the body parts of dragons. What if… What if this sword was forged with the soul of a dragon?
‘If that’s the case, does it mean that Hades, who could control souls, could also control weapons forged with souls?’
Seeing the deep frown on Lucifer’s face, Juin turned around and looked at Hades, but the latter remained the same.
“Your Majesty?”
Lucifer took a few seconds before saying with a solemn expression, “Juin, you must be able to control yourself.”
“Err… Alright?” Juin scratched his head, confused.
Lucifer moved his eyes away from Hades and stared into Juin’s eyes as he said in an ominous voice, “Never ever allow anyone to take control of you without your permission.”
While he was being a hypocrite, since he did that to Juin before, but he felt that this must be told to his vessel. Juin had soul-related powers. If Hades truly turned out to be an ominous presence, then Lucifer must make sure that he would never get back the soul that broke away from him—Juin!
