The Demon Kings Cowardly Vessel - Chapter 324
“I guess you can call them that. This particular Grand Demon was named Iblis. It was one of the worst Grand Demons on record. After it was kicked out of the Celestial Realm and prior to its eventual death, it destroyed at least 5 Earth-like dimensions, and 2 supernatural dimensions.
“However, when it came to The Nightmare Rift, it met its match in one of my ancestors.”
There was obvious pride in his eyes as he talked about his ancestor, and even his voice sounded a bit more humble than usual. “It was the most important war in the history of the Nightmare Rift. Before it arrived, we received news and reports from those who managed to flee their dimensions before the collapse. Everyone else thought that Iblis would never come to The Nightmare Rift, given how strong those in the Nightmare Rift were. They were proven wrong…
“Luckily, my ancestor was someone who took warnings seriously, and he had been training and gaining resources for this day. When Iblis finally came into our world and wrecked havoc, under the leadership of my ancestor, everyone worked together and fought against Iblis, and eventually, after heavy casualties, we managed to kill it.”
The War That Broke The World.
It was so named because the war basically broke the land apart, effectively forming the now clear-cut borders of the countries in the Nightmare Rift.
This was the only war that was accurately depicted in the history books of every country in The Nightmare Rift, and this was also that war that cemented Alercane’s position in The Nightmare Rift, making every other country afraid of it.
“After its demise, my ancestor took its carcasses and created multiple types of equipment, which he then distributed to those who participated in the war back then. Using its skin, he also created this book, where he put in every spell that he had ever learned into it.”
“Why? Isn’t it dangerous?” Juin asked out of curiousity.
Lucifer sighed. “He has to, so that his descendants could protect themselves when he was gone… Because not long after the war ended, he disappeared.”
“Huh?”
“From the clues he left behind, we found out that he ascended to the Celestial World,” Lucifer explained. “According to the myths in The Nightmare Rift, many of those in the Celestial World did not like mortals, so once a mortal was taken to the Celestial World and became immortal, they could never go back to their own world ever again. This is one of the cardinal rules of the Celestial World.”
Juin thought about it for a while before nodding slowly. “I guess it makes sense. If a god were able to return to their own world, they might end up helping their descendants rise above everyone else.”
Lucifer nodded. He then sighed as he said in a rare poetic manner, “Certain things cannot be broken, or the balance will be tipped, and once the balance is tipped, every world will come upon destruction.”
When he heard the weird poem, Juin raised a brow and looked at Lucifer curiously. Lucifer’s gaze was however in the direction of where Hades was in.
“Nothing,” Lucifer waved a hand nonchalantly after a while and said, “It’s just something that I heard when I was a kid… Anyway, somewhere along the line, another of my ancestors lost the book, and somehow, it found its way to Earth. Then, to you, the person who housed the souls of the true owners.”
“Err…” Juin had a weird expression. “Yay me?”
Lucifer rolled his eyes and sighed at that statement. He then let go of the book and said, “This book can only be read in the real world, so make sure that you always be vigilant while studying it. Never let it get out of your sight, and definitely never forget to keep it in your Dimensional Pouch. There is no place safer than there.”
Juin touched the cover of the book lightly. This was the first time he saw it since that fateful day in the museum. “Many things happened because of this book…”
Lucifer nodded. “This book requires a blood sacrifice. You just need to prick yourself and drip a drop of blood on it.”
“How do I know what I can learn or what I can’t?”
“That will be up to the book,” Lucifer said solemnly, “and you yourself.”
“What?”
Lucifer glanced at the book briefly before saying, “Every spell in this book was written with the blood of my ancestor. For those who have an affinity with the book, they can probably read some spells in the book by sacrificing a huge sum of blood to it. But as his descendants, we only need one drop. You can think of this book as a live being. It can sense our soul power in our blood, and it can determine which spells would best suit us…”
“But I’m not a member of your family, so how could my blood activate this? Please don’t tell me that I have to sacrifice half of my blood just to open this book.” The thought of it made him turn pale slightly.
Lucifer sighed. “I know, so this is the weird part. I used your body and blood when I read the book previously.”
“Wait, what? When??? How come I don’t remember this happening?”
“That’s not the main issue,” Lucifer said. “The main issue is that your blood, the blood of a human from another world, was able to activate this book. It puzzled me back then, but I thought it might be because of the uniqueness of your constitution. But after giving it much thought, I think that there’s something else at play here…”
He then stretched and said, “Even so, I still don’t know what makes your body special. We will probably figure out sooner or later.”
Juin frowned and stared at the book.
Back then, when he summoned Lucifer, he did not need to cast a spell or even mumble anything. His blood landed on the book, and the next thing he knew, Lucifer was with him.
‘I can’t possibly be from The Nightmare Rift… right?’ Juin thought to himself. When Lucifer absorbed the memories from Jim Mack, Juin also saw the images of his biological parents… Well, their last moments on Earth anyway. He could see the resemblance between him and his Asian mother.
The book seemed to glow slightly in an ominous red as Juin tightened its grip on it.
