The Demon Kings Cowardly Vessel - Chapter 329
The burning balls of Soul Flames that were surrounding Juin flickered for a few seconds before disappearing.
“Sh*t…” Lucifer cursed, for when he looked away from Juin, the spirits that were kept at bay were gathering again. “Get lost…” he growled at them threateningly.
Those spirits could see Lucifer, yet they were unafraid of him. They slowly moved towards Juin, as if he was their main goal and everything else could be ignored.
“Juin, your Soul Flames!” Lucifer hissed, but Juin could not hear him at all.
At this moment, Juin’s mind was filled with fragments of emotions and memories that were extremely confusing to him, and he felt like his head was about to burst into a thousand pieces.
“Arggh! No, don’t kill me!” Juin suddenly burst out in tears. “Don’t hurt me! Don’t hurt her! Stop it! What have we done to you? It hurts! It hurts!”
He was blabbering a lot of things that did not make sense, and Luca could only watch on in horror while Juin kept scratching the sides of his head, as if he were trying to dig out his brain.
“Argghh!!!”
“Juin, merge with me! Quick!” Lucifer yelled at his vessel, but Juin was completely consumed by the emotions that were portrayed by the spirits, and he could not hear anything else. “Sh*t!”
Suddenly…
“Juin, look who we found!” an excited voice suddenly sounded from a distance away.
Cyrus came running out first, heading straight towards Juin, with Wolfe following closely behind him.
“Juin?” The boy came to a halt when he saw Juin kneeling on the floor with a pained expression and breathing heavily. He then glared at Luca, who immediately raised his hand and mouthed, “Not me.”
“What happened here?” Wolfe asked as he quickly stepped forward.
That was when Luca saw the person behind his back. “Princess Cecile?!”
He did not see wrongly. With the help of the bright moon, he could see Wolfe carrying an unconscious Princess Cecile on his back, and from the amount of dried bloodstain on her clothes, it seemed that she had been in a huge fight and was terribly injured.
“What happened?” Luca asked. “Where did you find her? Is she alright?”
At the exact same time, the spirits that were only mere centimeters from Juin suddenly stood frozen, and almost in unison, they turned towards Wolfe… Or rather, their attention was on the person on Wolfe’s back.
If Wolfe knew that he was currently being surrounded by thousands of spirits, he would have shivered and hidden behind his tail.
These spirits gathered around Wolfe, and one by one, they were quickly disappearing into Princess Cecile’s body.
“What the…” Lucifer’s eyes widened by what he saw. He had never heard of something like this before. “Is she a soul user?” he mumbled but quickly shook his head to dismiss that thought. “There’s no way she could be one…”
He then looked at Juin, who had fallen down on his side, panting heavily from the horrific memories. Tears were lining his eyes as he looked towards Cecile, who was on Wolfe’s back. Just like Lucifer, he saw the spirits entering Cecile’s body as well.
But he did not watch until the end, because he fainted not long after.
…
After god knows how long, Juin woke up to the sound of owls hooting, and when he opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was the bright stars in the sky.
“What…”
Confused as to how he get here, he scratched his temple and turned his head to the side. That was when he saw Cecile lying next to him, still unconscious. There was dried blood near her ear, and tears seemed to be slowly falling down.
He looked past her and saw Cyrus and Wolfe, who were sleeping against a tree, with the younger boy using Wolfe as a mattress. Meanwhile, Luca was sitting next to the bonfire nearby, poking at it with a stick occasionally out of boredom.
Juin looked back at Cecile, whose beautiful face was now marred with dried blood and frown lines.
‘Is she having a nightmare?’ Juin thought to himself.
He wanted to reach out to touch her when he heard Lucifer saying, “Don’t. Let her sleep. She’s still healing…”
Juin looked up and saw Lucifer floating in a sitting position near him. “What happened?”
“You fainted…” Lucifer replied nonchalantly. “And I think this girl somehow saved you before you turned mad.”
Juin glanced at Cecile while asking, “What… How?”
“Those spirits were somehow attracted to her, and they were absorbed into her body,” Lucifer recalled what happened earlier. The large group of spirits were completely absorbed into Cecile’s body.
Hearing that, Juin froze for a moment before looking up at Lucifer. “What do you mean?”
Lucifer sighed and shrugged. “I can’t explain it either.”
“Is she like me?”
“Don’t think so…” Lucifer said. He then shrugged. “But I think those spirits were attracted to her in a different way… See that patch of dried blood on her c.h.e.s.t?”
Juin pushed himself up slightly and nodded when he saw the dried blood. “Is she injured?”
“She was… At least, from what I can understand from the ramblings of your little friends… When they found her, she had a small hole in her c.h.e.s.t… And that kid,” he pointed at Cyrus with his chin and said, “said that when he first found Cecile, he could feel a strong sense of being watched, which disappeared quickly after. I think that was when your Soul Flames disappeared and those spirits came to you. But when you and she were in the same area, they went to her again.
“After you fainted, the boys tried to look at her injury…” Lucifer sighed at the memory of those boys fumbling around as they kept arguing if it was proper for them to look at the c.h.e.s.t of a woman while she was unconscious. In the end, they made Cyrus deal with her injuries while they tended to Juin.
“It seems like after the spirits entered her body, the small hole disappeared…”
Juin’s eyes widened slightly upon hearing that. “You mean to say that…”
Lucifer nodded. “Those spirits… The flowers… This whole island is weird, and everything here is full of things that I don’t understand. Look around you…”
Juin looked around, but he did not see anything unexpected. “What am I looking for?”
“Look closely…” Lucifer said as he looked at the pile of flowers that Luca swept to one side.
Juin looked at the pile of flowers for a few seconds before gasping. “It’s… grey!”
“Huh?” Luca looked over when he heard Juin. “You’re awake.”
Juin looked over at Luca and nodded. “Yeah.. Er… Sorry about earlier.”
“It’s ok,” Luca said as he continued staring at the bonfire again. “How are you feeling?”
“I think I’m good…” Juin said as he fully sat up.
“Good.” Luca wiped his hands together and stood up. “You can keep watch now…” he said before turning around.
Watching Luca’s back, Juin suddenly asked, “Don’t you have any questions for me?”
Luca froze, and after a moment of silence and without turning back, he asked in an emotionless tone, “Would you answer them?”
