The Demon Kings Cowardly Vessel - Chapter 345
It was finally the day for departure…
Presley flew everyone to the point of departure with his private plane. The only one who did not fly with them was Caelian, who went there with his own plane. Once there, they had to spend some time traveling before they arrived at their final destination.
“Glowworms,” Juin whispered as their small boat moved down the river of one of New Zealand’s most popular attractions, the Waitomo Glowworm Caves. Above them were probably thousands of glowworms, which should have impressed them, but at this moment, everyone was feeling nervous about what was about to come.
The ȧduŀts did not follow them, as the Battle rules prohibited them from entering the cave, which would become the portal to the other dimension.
He looked around and saw a few familiar figures, including some of the kids from the private school he attended, as well as the members of the Dark Night Clan that attacked him previously. Welshon, the leader that led the previous attack, made a throat-slitting motion when he saw Juin looking at him.
However, to his annoyance, Juin merely blinked and continued to check out the others. As the cave was quite dark, he couldn’t see that well, but he soon noticed Taka Nakamura in one of the boats.
“Where’s Mika?” he mumbled as his eyes darted around.
He soon saw her in another boat with other members of the Nakamura family. She seemed upset about something. Juin merely gave her a nod before turning his eyes back on Taka Nakamura’s team. He had been surprised when he heard that the twins wouldn’t be placed together.
He was even more surprised when Presley told them that those two weren’t twins; they were in fact triplets.
Taka Nakamura was standing in front of the boat, and he seemed to be trying to block Juin from seeing someone behind him.
Juin saw two of Taka’s teammates covering at the end of the boat, and when he tried to look at the last member of Taka’s team, all he could see was a fully cloaked figure.
Yet he felt uneasy upon staring at him.
“Do you feel it too?” Lucifer asked, coming out from Juin.
They could feel a demonic aura coming from the figure behind Taka Nakamura. While it was common to feel demonic aura, in this case, it was odd because of the Nakamura family’s background. They were a bunch of exorcists, so why would a member of their family have such a strong demonic aura?
“Can you see anything?” Lucifer asked.
Juin shook his head. “It’s hidden.”
“I’m not surprised. The strongest families wouldn’t allow anyone to know their true strengths. I don’t believe that there would be many here that could be stronger than you. This means that for those whose aura you couldn’t see, it’s likely that they are concealing them using some sort of spells.”
Juin agreed. It wasn’t really that weird.
As if the figure sensed that he was being looked at, he slowly lifted his head.
In the darkness, Juin only saw a bright red eye looking at him, going right through his soul and sending a shiver down his spine.
“Akuma… Nakamura…” Juin frowned as he whispered the name.
According to Presley, Akuma Nakamura’s presence was known only by a few people. For the most part, he had been kept at home and had never participated in any of the Battles. This year, due to the enticing rewards, the Nakamura family finally allowed him to make an appearance.
“We know nothing about him, so it’s best to stay clear from them…” Luca said in a low voice from behind Juin.
Juin gave him a quick glance before nodding.
“I don’t like him…” Caelian whispered to Cyrus as he looked towards Akuma Nakamura.
Cyrus nodded, and sitting beside him was Wolfe, who also nodded at the same time. Their heightened instincts told them that the cloaked figure behind Taka Nakamura was dangerous, extremely dangerous.
They weren’t the only ones. A lot of people sensed that there was something wrong with the cloaked figure, and they quickly made plans to avoid the Nakamura family in hushed tones.
“Hello, children from Earth…”
A voice suddenly appeared around the caves, alerting everyone of an unknown presence.
“What’s that?” Cyrus’ ears twitched slightly as he tried to find the source of the voice, yet he could not pinpoint it. It was as if the voice was coming from everywhere.
“The world that you will be going is perilous, and there is no guarantee of your safety. We at The Organization are unable to find out everything that we want from the world, Zulluqich, which is now known as the Barren Dimension. As you are all aware, there is no known intelligent life form in that world at the moment. We suspect that the life forms were all annihilated by a foreign being, which may or may not be there. As such, we have upped the stake for this year’s Battle of the Underground Beings. Even so, as you are the future of supernatural beings on Earth, we would give you one final chance to leave.
“Once you have crossed the portals, you will be unable to return until you reach the checkpoints, upon which you can activate the return portals that we managed to set in the world by pressing the buŧŧons on your watches.”
“Each team was given four of such watches upon your arrival. This watch has a few functions. It has the ability to “draw” out the map of the world based on where you are traversing in real-time. You will be the first batch of explorers in this new world, and you will be opening up this world to the future generation.”
Suddenly, the interface of the watch changed to a heart beating.
The robotic voice continued, “This watch could also detect the wearer’s heartbeat. Once the wearer passed away, the watch would disappear as well, and we would be notified. Only people from the Organization will know the identity of the deceased, but the rest of you will be notified in terms of the number of participants left.”
The interface changed again, and a number appeared on the watch.
“We will be opening 10 portals here, and you and your team will go into the portals with the corresponding number to the one shown on your watches. Each portal will lead you to a different place in the world, but all of them are the same. They are areas that we know for sure to be safe.
“But do not be too happy. These areas are the safest, which meant there’s absolutely nothing of value there. The moment you stepped out of the portals, the portals will disappear, and you are free to explore. There will be no rules.
“The watches that you are wearing will show you the directions to the items that we want you to bring back. Anything you find along the way will be yours to keep. All you have to do is to follow the stars in the watch.
“Lastly, we hope that you will be able to return gloriously.”
At the end of the speech, ten portals with numbers floating above them opened up around the cave.
