The Demon Wolf - Chapter 19:Unholy-Holy Methods
“That’s why your Granny never wanted you to see me. She was just trying to keep you safe from me…” Jerard says as he looks at Red with the same expression he had back when Granny had taken her away from him at the diner.
“…Is that why you killed Granny?”
“What?!” Jerard exclaims defensively, “No! I was a bit upset at first when she never let me see her, but I understood why and just let it be. I originally went over there to check on them, Gerald had told me that someone might try to rob them or something, and him saying that bothered me. But someone tampered with my truck.
That’s when I got worried, so I did the only thing I could think to do and I changed into my wolf form and ran to Granny’s house. By the time I got there Gerald had already killed her. I killed him, and the taste of human blood…” His breathing starts to grow a bit heavy as one of his legs starts shaking up and down.
“I hadn’t had it since the darker days, so it hit me hard and I got drunk with blood lust. I tore at Granny’s body and, ate, some of Gerald’s. Than I heard Red’s breathing…” He takes a deep breath as he runs his hands through his hair, “Had it not been for the cops showing up I…”
“You don’t need to finish that,” Randy interrupts. He folds his arms closely examining Jerard, who looks exhausted from reliving everything in his mind.
“Is there anything else that makes you, lose control?”
“…The smell of fresh blood. It’s part of how the demon nearly got me to kill Red…”
“How exactly does the demon get into your-” The lights suddenly flicker for a few seconds than return to normal. They all feel the air suddenly drop in temperature, shivers running down their spines. Everyone becomes alert as they look around as if the demon might just appear in front of them, “I’ll ask more questions later,” Randy states as he walks up to the cell door, unlocking it.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m gonna need every capable hand right now,” Randy says as he takes off the cuffs, “Even if you’ve secretly been the Demon Wolf all these years I know you, and you’re someone I know I can trust when I need to, now come on. There’s some spare clothes in the locker room. Helena, go with Red and check the monitors, don’t let Red leave your side,” Though a bit hesitant, Jerard gets up and follows Randy to the locker room as Helena and Red head to the front desk.
Checking the monitors everything seems normal except the cold air in the station, for now.
As Jerard finishes getting dressed Randy checks his shotgun to double check that it has a full cartridge.
“I gotta get something from Pierre’s office, I’ll meet you up front,”
“Alright…” As Jerard heads for the front Randy makes his way to Pierre’s office. He checks all the drawers in the desk to find something but to no luck until he gets to the bottom drawer.
“Pierre you son of a bitch,” He says cheerfully as he pulls out a small bottle of holy water, “You did keep it,” As he stands up he gets a chill down his spine as something glares at him. He turns in the direction of the source to see a pair of glowing red eyes off in the distance through a window. The eyes are bobbing up and down slightly as they slowly get closer.
“We know,” Helena says, gesturing to the monitor, “What do we do?”
“We do what we can until daylight, where it’ll have to retreat back to the forest,” They all look at him slightly confused due to how confident he was in saying that, “What? I’ve always had an interest for the supernatural, and when the Big Bad Wolf showed up I started taking my research more seriously,” He pulls up his shotgun, laying it on the desk and taking the cartridge out.
“Randy, bullets barely affected me, what makes you think they’ll do anything to it?” Jerard asks.
“One, we weren’t using silver, and two,” He pulls out the bottle of holy water from his pocket, “We didn’t douse the bullets in holy water either,” He takes the cork off from the bottle and pours the water into the cartridge. He shakes it up a bit, getting out as much water as possible before putting it back into the cartridge.
“This is the only batch of holy bullets we got, and they’re gonna have to last us, the whole way to my house,” They all look at him confused again, “I have a lot of anti-demon shit there so it shouldn’t be able to hurt us-” There’s a sudden tapping on the front door. They all look to see Gerald the yellow glow from the streetlights illuminating him. The body is torn up, large claw marks covering most of it, revealing exposed muscles, and even some bones in some places. A large axe rest in one hand, the blade sitting on the sidewalk.
With inhuman speed it lifts the axe and slams it into the doors, the glass breaking immediately, the shards covering the floor in front of it. It suddenly speaks with a voice that sounds like Gerald’s, but has a deep-demonic echo to it.
“Having some quality time with your daughter, Wol-” Before it can finish talking, Randy blasts it with the shotgun, sending it to its feet.
“There’s a cop car out back, go, now!” Randy commands. Without another word they all book it for the back door. As Gerald rises to its feet they’re long gone. Steam emits from the bullet holes made from the shotgun, as the demon actually feels pain for once. It wastes no time picking up its axe and heading back outside.
