The Demon Wolf - Chapter 22:Interrogation
Shortly after Jerard and Randy head back inside, Pierre calls Randy.
“Alright, we’ll be there soon, see ya in a bit,” Randy hangs up and puts his phone in his pocket, “Red, you have to come with me and Helena,” He states, “Looks like you gotta stay here by yourself for a bit, you alright with that?” He asks Jerard.
“Yeah,” He replies.
As Helena and Red leave the house and go to the damaged car, Randy tells Jerard about his book and the page he marked. Jerard stands in the doorway as he Randy gets into the car.
“Wait!” Jerard shouts, running over to the car as Randy turns on the engine, which miraculously turns on. He goes to the back driver side door where Red is sitting. Randy unlocks the dor and Jerard opens it. As he hugs Red, she’s unsure whether to hug him back or not, her arms just hovering near him.
“I love you,” Jerard says as he lets go.
“I, love you too,” Red says, having a hard time looking him in the eyes. With a closing of the door and the door locking, they take off for town, Jerard and the house slowly shrinking into nothing. Red finds herself glancing through the back window, struggling with her mixed feelings. Driving into town, it looks the same way it has been for the past couple of days, dead and deserted.
“…Was it like this back when…Dad…was attacking the town?” Red asks as they drive through the silence.
“…Yeah,” Randy replies hesitantly. Arriving at the station, they see several police cars and tape covering the shattered front doors. Pierre is standing on the other side of them, glaring at the three of them as they exit the car.
“Use the back door,” Pierre states.
Walking around they see tread marks on the street from last night. Heading through the broken fence, they enter the station where Pierre is standing in the way.
“Interrogation room, now,” He commands aggressively.
Following him down the hall they head past the main lobby and into the hall on the left side. Walking all the way down they reach a pair of doors.
“Randy, you’re first, you two wait right here,” Pierre opens the door, waiting for him to go inside.
A bit hesitant, Randy complies and enters the room. The two sit down at opposite sides of a cold, grey, metal table, the chairs just as cold and blandly colored. A mic is sitting on the table to record their conversation.
“What’s with all this?” Randy asks.
“To make sure I don’t miss anything,” Pierre puts his arms on the table, “I trusted you to make sure nothing happened last night and if anything did that you’d call me. I wake up in the middle of the night seeing a cop car hauling ass through town and when I follow them I arrive at your house. Then, I’m surprised to see not just you, but Helena and Red with you,”
“Pierre, I told you I’d-” Randy tries to stop him but gets cutoff, Pierre raising his voice.
“And then! I come here in the morning to Jerard’s truck heavily damaged like something took a bite out the bed, the station with the fucking front doors shattered and the back gate busted! I tried to cal Jerard but he never picked up. You can only imagine how I felt when I checked the cameras to find that all the footage from last night, just happened to be gone. Not to mention, that this all happened the night after that break in, the one I asked you about and you seemed pretty confident that you knew what kind of axe was used,” He finally finished.
“…What are you getting at Pierre?” Randy asks with a skeptical look, the air filling with tension.
“You’re a part of the attacks, you’re the man who attacked that house and chopped up the body. And now you’ve got Red and Helena caught up in this. Tell me, are you working with the Demon Wolf somehow? Are you the cause of all this!?”
“Pierre, listen to what you’re saying!?” Randy exclaims, “You honestly believe, that I might be the motherfucker that’s going around chopping people up?” Pierre just gives him a cold stare.
“Here I thought we were friends,” Randy scuffs before he gets up.
“Where are you going?”
“Away from here, this station isn’t the thing that needs cleaning around here,” Pierre stands up as Randy puts his hand on the doorhandle.
“Randy, if you walk out that door, you’re a wanted man,”
“Goodbye to you too,” Randy leaves, slamming the door behind him, “Come on, we need to get out of here before he tells the other officers.
“Tell’s them what?” Helena asks as her and Red quickly follow him.
“That I’m the fucking killer and you two are helpers or some shit,”
“What?!” As they enter the main lobby they hear a door slam open. Randy takes off, Helena and Red quickly running too as they bust through the front doors and jump into the car.
“The fucking demon screwed up the cameras, got rid of all the footage,” Randy says as he starts the car up. They quickly reverse out of the parking lot as they see Pierre running outside.
“Pierre thinks he’s connected the dots to me being responsible for it,”
“Why?”
“We both know he never got over it,” Randy says glancing over at Helena.
Jerard sits in the living room, the only light coming from a lamp as the blinds are shut. He finds himself staring at the page that Randy had folded the corner of. Looking at the rather detailed drawing of the demon sends chills down his spine. It looks nearly identical to the one that is trying to kill them, the one that had given him life.
Could this be the same one? Are there more like it?
He ponders as he holds his hands in front of his mouth. He looks away from the page as he relives last night in the basement. It took everything he had to keep himself in there, fighting off the hunger, the blood lust.
Jerard nearly jumps when he hears the car pull up to the house. He stands up as the front door suddenly opens, Randy, Helena, and Red rushing inside.
“What’s wrong?” Jerard asks as they enter the living room.
“We gotta go,” Randy states as he grabs the book from the table, Helena and Red head off into the kitchen to get some stuff.
“What?”
“Pierre, he’s gone crazy, thinks we have something to do with the attacks. No doubt he’s on his way here right now. Help the others get some stuff to bring to the car will ya?”
“U-uh, s-sure,” Jerard hurries over to the kitchen, Helena and Red are in the fridge, pulling out jars all full of various things. Most of them are full of different herbs and spices, some have liquids, and one has garlic. They grab all the jars and head outside to the car, Randy holding the trunk open for them, some books already inside it.
Dumping the jars into the trunk, Randy closes it and they get into the vehicle, Randy and Jerard up front while Helena and Red sit in the back.
“Where are we going?” Jerard asks as they take off.
“The sawmill, I have more stuff there,”
“What stuff?”
“The demon killing kind,”
…
Last Night
Pierre had been driving back to town, baffled and utterly confused. What reason could Randy have for doing what he did? And why were Red and Helena there? Something just…doesn’t add up.
He thought to himself. As the town started coming into view, an axe comes flying out of the darkness, hitting the car engine. The car comes to a halt as the engine dies, Pierre getting out of the car and readying his gun. Before any shots can be fired hes rammed against the car, a quick snap to the neck and his body goes limp. Gerald stood over his corpse as a figure of shadows emerges from the woods.
“At least you got something,” The figure speaks. It plunges a raised hand into Pierre’s body, a red glow emanating from him before it turns black, than fades away. Pierre gets up, shaking his head.
“W-What..?” He asks as he looks around.
“Pierre, I need you to kill Jerard,”
“…Y-yes,” He replies, becoming more awake.
“Gerald, make yourself useful and help him in anyway you can. Jerard is becoming stronger with every second he spends with that wretched thing he made with that human. I need him dead before tomorrow night so we can continue with the plan,”
Pierre stands at the entrance to the station, watching Randy and the others drive off out of sight.
“What was that?!” A deep voice asks from behind.
“Relax, there’s only so many places they can go now that everyone is going to be on the look out for them,” Pierre tells Gerald as he turns to it, their eyes glistening red for a second, “We’ll have them dead long before our lord returns. Now come on, we have preparations to make,” And with that the two of them head to the back rooms of the office.
