The Demon’s Gate - Chapter 294
With Tang Long finishing off his opponent, all three battles came to an end and peace once again descended on the area. Guo Luo was already sitting next to Yao Jun and Yun Yantian was leaning against the twisting roots of the tree, a pleased smirk on his face. Tang Long was the last one to finish his battle, somewhat nervously walking up to Yao Jun and standing in front of him. Yao Jun’s gaze swept over Tang Long, but it actually landed on Yun Yantian first.
“Yantian, you talk too much during battle. You finished everything swiftly and did it neatly, but when you had the element of surprise at the ending you wasted it by speaking up. What would you have done if the enemy was able to react to your voice and launch an instantaneous counterattack? You also put too much energy and focus into that greatsword, you left yourself with nothing for defense. So if that man really was able to launch a counterattack due to your voice, you would not be able to escape getting injured, possibly even death.”
Yao Jun was a very strict person, especially when it came to the safety of those close to him. It might annoy them when he lectured them like this, but he’d rather they be annoyed than dead. Yun Yantian placed his hands behind his head and rolled his eyes, but he didn’t try to refute Yao Jun, he knew that his words were well-meant and factual.
“Yeah yeah, I’ll do my best to improve. But can you blame for getting a bit too excited there? I mean, come on, how often is it that I get a chance to prove that I’ve gotten stronger and actually be of some use to you? The bandits when we first met, the time I and Lin Ren got chased by the Guo clan, and just recently on God Piercer planet. That’s three separate occasions where you’ve come to pick my ass up before things got bad, now compare that to the times I’ve gotten to save your sorry ass. Can’t think of any? Well, that’s cause there are none. I mean, I’ve gotten closer to having you executed than I have to saving you, you’ve gotta let me savor the little things here.”
There was a time where Yun Yantian was the young master of the Yun clan, he was above tens of thousands and below none. Even if he tried to hide it, he had bone-deep pride and even some arrogance, yet all of that had been shattered by Yao Jun. At first, he might have been able to use his position to help or even stand above Yao Jun, but now none of that was possible.
Forget talking about standing over him, Yun Yantian wasn’t even sure if he had anything that could let him stand side by side with Yao Jun. And because of that, Yun Yantian viewed the increase of his strength with great importance, every step taken forward was one step closer to actually being a proper brother with Yao Jun. Yao Jun gave a nod of his head and didn’t say anything else about it, he knew Yun Yantian well enough to know that he understood his intentions. His gaze then moved to the side and landed on Guo Luo.
“You also speak too much. What would you have done if that man could have reacted to your voice? Or what if he had an item or ability that allowed him to instantaneously share information with others? Suddenly the entire universe knows one of your greatest trump cards and can thus use it against you. Any opportunity you give your enemy is mercy, and mercy to your enemies is cruelty to yourself and those close to you. You also became overconfident because of the fact that the battle was never fair to begin with. Your robe can basically negate the attacks of early-stage Earthly Deities, but that doesn’t mean you can get lax. His final attack grazed you because you didn’t fully focus on dodging, you would have gotten injured if it hadn’t been for the robe. And one injury can quickly destabilize the battle and lead to your loss, always assume that your enemy is strong enough to kill you, never give them even a single chance.”
Yao Jun’s eyes were vicious, detecting even the smallest actions that the others took during their battles, he wouldn’t allow a single mistake to slip past him. Guo Luo kept her lips tight shut but seriously nodded her head, engraving the information in her mind.
She knew that even though both she and Yun Yantian had a God Gate, with Yun Yantian actually having a God Gate born solely for combat, it was Yao Jun who had the most experience amongst them. Yao Jun far outclassed them when it came to battle experience, even if they were both combined. Yao Jun’s gaze moved once again after lecturing Guo Luo, finally landing on the still nervous Tang Long, his chin gesturing towards the slime sitting on Tang Long’s shoulder.
“You’re slow, and do you know what that tells me? It tells me that you don’t trust her enough. You are different from other people who cultivate the law of demons, they have to focus fully on understanding and learning about their companion, but for you, that is only half the work. You and she have merged, all her power is already available for you. But you have to trust her, you have to believe in her and the power she provides, believe that she wants what’s best for you. The more you trust and believe her, the more of her power you can utilize. You also need to look into different ways to utilize your power, you were a bit too one-dimensional in that battle, it makes it too easy to come up with counters.”
As he was talking and explaining to the three people how to improve, Yao Jun couldn’t help but feel somewhat strange. His cultivation path had basically just been jumping from one battle to another, rarely ever getting any rest, and he had certainly never had anyone that could teach him about it. Due to this, he couldn’t quite wrap his head around how it ended up being him that was best suited to lecturing these three people, it just seemed so strange to him.
Tang Long nodded his head with a serious expression, the slime on his shoulder bobbing up and down as if she was agreeing with Yao Jun. He continued to talk with the three after lecturing them, taking the chance to answer a few of Tang Long’s questions. But after they had spent three hours in the same spot, Yao Jun’s black gate appeared at his side and he gestured towards it with a nod.
“Alright, you’ve done your part so now it’s about time that I do my part.”
The three others immediately understood what he meant, Yun Yantian and Guo Luo’s expressions turning a little unpleasant. This was what they feared the most, remaining useless in a real battle despite having grown stronger. But they knew that now wasn’t the time to pout or argue, so Tang Long and Yun Yantian stepped into the gate right away, Guo Luo giving Yao Jun a quick kiss.
“Don’t take too long, otherwise Little Lan is going to start pouting.”
There was no point in trying to dissuade him or trying to get him to escape, these trusting words were the best thing she could say in this situation. Yao Jun’s lips curled into a bright smile as he gave a nod of his head and returned the kiss, sending Guo Luo into the God Gate and then returning it to his body. Yao Jun’s expression returned to normal once Guo Luo vanished, his body remaining seated on the overturned tree as he waited.
Half an hour later, the sound of something rushing through the air reached Yao Jun’s ears, a group of 100 people arriving in the sky in front of Yao Jun. The group was filled with people who had smoke coiling around them, seemingly seeping out of their skin in some places before sinking back into their bodies in other places. Yao Jun had encountered a few such people before so he knew that they were all from the Endless Abyss clan. This group was a bit stronger than the previous one, containing two early-stage and one middle stage Earthly Deity. The middle-stage Earthly Deity opened his mouth to talk but was swiftly cut off by Yao Jun raising his hand.
“So you’re the Ki…”
“Sorry, but could you be quiet for a bit? The others are about to arrive so please wait until then before you start blabbering.”
The expression of the man twitched violently due to Yao Jun’s nonchalant disregard, but he didn’t make any rash movements. He knew that Yao Jun’s words were true, more people were arriving now that some time had passed. So to ensure that their mission had the highest chance of success, he remained waiting in the air, his eyes somewhat narrowed as he kept his gaze trained on Yao Jun.
Just as Yao Jun had said, more groups started to arrive now that the news of Yao Jun’s departure had spread and they had been given some time to reach this place. The next group that came was a further 166 people from the Final Fire clan, the strength of their three leaders the same as the group from the Endless Abyss clan.
A third group also quickly arrived, this one coming from the Heaven’s Gate sect and numbering 100 strong. They didn’t have any middle-stage Earthly Deities, but they had a total of five early-stage Earthly Deities. Another group arrived shortly after, but this one didn’t come from any large sect, it was just a group of about 60 people who had come to collect the bounty that some sects had placed on Yao Jun’s head, they only had two early-stage Earthly Deities. And then, half an hour after the first group arrived, Yao Jun turned his head to the west and muttered softly.
“So the main players have finally arrived…”
A light far faster than any of the previous groups soared through the sky and arrived in the air above Yao Jun, this one only consisting of two people, a man and a woman. The other groups were all accounted for so there was only one clan that this group could have come from, the Merged Heaven clan.
The group only consisted of two people, their expressions a little gloomy, but no one dared to underestimate this group. The reason behind this was simple, the man had reached the late-stage of the Earthly Deity realm while the woman had reached the early-stage of the Heavenly Deity realm. Yao Jun’s feud with the Merged Heaven clan could already be considered bone-deep after he killed their fifth Young Master, only they would bother sending a Heavenly Deity to kill him. The leader of the Endless Abyss clan group turned to look at the two people from the Merged Heaven clan, one of his eyebrows rising in slight surprise.
“Lucia, you’ve actually not even bothered to bring a group of people to set up a defensive perimeter to prevent his escape?”
The one he spoke to was the woman, Lucia Eluard, the second Young Mistress of the Merged Heaven clan, Peyton’s elder sister. Lucia had somewhat pale skin and chestnut-colored hair, her pale pink eyes narrowing slightly when she heard the question. But before she got to say anything, Yao Jun let out a little chuckle.
“Heh, no they brought a group alright. They really want me dead so they brought along 231 people. But they abandoned them about halfway here when they discovered that about half the people in that group were actually being tracked by me. You told them to head to the Demon’s Gate headquarters in an attempt to throw me off my game or to force me to move, didn’t you? But I’m still here, and you can’t contact your group any longer, so how do you think that turned out?”
Yao Jun still sat on the overturned tree with his faint smile, his gaze sweeping over the gathered groups as if everything was under his control. Lucia’s expression sank a bit further after Yao Jun chuckled, but her silence allowed everyone to know what had gone down. Now that everyone seemed to have arrived, the leader of the Final Fire clan started to talk, his gaze drilling into Yao Jun.
“So you’ve tracked everyone from the star, have you? Let me guess, even this group is marked, isn’t it? Heh, but if you’ve been tracking us from the start then you should have fled, now you’ve fallen directly into our trap!”
The man unleashed an attack the moment he finished talking, a brilliant sun made of blue flames appearing above him and descending upon Yao Jun like a shooting star. He seemed to have chatted with some of the leaders of the Heaven’s Gate sect while waiting for the others, as three of them unleashed their attacks at the same time, two invisible swords and one blinding bolt of lightning shooting towards Yao Jun.
When the attacks were launched, Yao Jun merely looked at them with a disinterested expression, Lucia was actually the one who wore a more affected expression, sneering in disdain. Yao Jun turned his head away from the attacks, the blazing sun suddenly turning a deeper shade of blue and then turning around, heading back towards the man who launched it. As for the two invisible blades and the bolt of lightning, they were blocked by an invisible wall before they managed to get close to Yao Jun, dissipating due to how violently they hit the wall.
The man from the Final Fire clan quickly blocked the returned attack, the people from the various groups looking at Yao Jun with somewhat shocked expressions. Even Lucia’s sneer of disdain had twisted into one of shock and confusion, none of them able to understand what had just gone down. They could all sense the energy of the invisible wall, they could also sense a familiar energy when the fireball was turned back, but none of them knew how something like this could be possible. The leader of the Endless Abyss group couldn’t help but stutter slightly as he spoke.
“You… Didn’t you have a fragment of the Supreme Law of Demons, weren’t you a Prince of Demons?! H…How can you use the abilities of the Supreme Law of Elements and the Supreme Law of Defense?! Who are you?!”
It wasn’t easy to shock someone at the middle-stage of the Earthly Deity realm, but the scene that Yao Jun had just shown did just that. One could only use the abilities of one Supreme Law, you could at best have more fragments of that law, you could never hold multiple Supreme Law Fragments. This was a fact that they all knew, it had been established for countless years already. And yet there Yao Jun was, breaking the laws they thought inviolable.
Yao Jun finally stood up from his seated position, the aura radiating from his body exploding forth as he unleashed the full might of the Crumbling The Nine Heavens. Nine channels carved, nine Demonic beasts to borrow power from, never before had Yao Jun revealed such power and might. He raised his head slightly, still smiling faintly at the groups gathered around him.
“You should all know who I am, I am Demon God Yao Jun. And I’m not the one who fell into your trap, you are the ones who fell into mine.”
