The Devil’s Ceo Wife : Can I Not Kill You - Chapter 2 Jiang Ni Yen
In one of the VIP rooms in Xuanwu University Hospital, the device attached to the sleeping beauty started whirring. It went from stable to erratic and vice versa.
If you stare too long, you’ll think she’s a character from one of those Disney movies. Long black tresses cascaded down freely, fringing that heart-shaped face. Although her skin appeared to be pallid at the moment, it didn’t diminish her attractiveness.
Another minute passed before one of those delicate fingers moved and her long lashes twitched, showing signs of stirring.
**
The fragrant flowers mixing with the strong scent of over-bleached blankets assailed her nose the minute her senses were awake. The beep of a heart monitor and the whir of the bed being adjusted compelled her to slowly open her almond-shaped eyes. Squinting, pale walls greeted her.
‘I am alive? Or is this how heaven looks like?’
Propping her elbows on the bed to sit up, she winced momentarily. She felt her bones were stiff.
“She’s awake!” the woman in a nurse uniform shouted on the intercom next to her bed.
Her happy voice managed to awaken Iana’s curiosity and pinched the nurse’s arm.
The woman jerked in surprised and yelped ‘ouch.’
‘It’s real. I’m alive.’ her mouth gaped in disbelief.
Her intention to jump failed when she got off the bed. Due to a deep and nagging pain on her leg, she stumbled down. The cold marble floor cushioned her fall.
“Don’t move!” The nurse shouted. At the same time, she helped her lie down again.
Moving her head around to observe her surroundings, she saw a television set on the wall, a metal IV stand with saline bags and a LED heart monitor.
Only then that it sank in, she’s in a hospital.
The next minute, doctors rushed in to check on her. She was wheeled out of the room to undergo a CT scan and MRI. Being in a coma for 5 months, the doctors needed to see if her brain is functioning normally.
Inside the machine, there was that throb and ache on her temples as memories of another person flooded in. The machine produced a defective sound so they pulled her out. In addition to that, there were irregularities appearing on the monitor.
On her face, there was that painful expression.
“Does your head hurt?” the soft voice of the doctor brought her back from sifting through this person’s memory.
She shook her head in response. The headache has disappeared now.
After a series of tests, she was brought back to her room and the doctors gave their prognosis.
“Everything is normal. You will feel a slight discomfort in your body due to staying in the same position for 5months. I recommend doing physiotherapy for a month to relax the muscles.”
“Thank you Doctor.” in a hoarse voice, she said.
“No problem. Do you want me to call your family?”
Family?
Her face darkened at the thought of that word.
The feeling of the bullet piercing through her body felt so fresh that she clenched her hands, nails stabbing in her skin making them bleed.
‘I will come back. Just wait.’ she murmured weakly.
“Did you say something?” the doctor asked.
Then she realized, the bald doctor was referring to this original body’s family.
“None. Plea–se don’t tell my family.” she croaked.
Being her doctor for months, it reached his ears that her family never came or even visited her once. The nurses gossiped about this. In the whole city, who didn’t know her and the issues of her family.
But he’s not the type to meddle into other people’s lives so nodded.
When he left, she was staring past the door.
Till this moment, she can’t believe her soul transmigrated to another person. Trained to be a rationalist at a young age, this phenomenon never crossed her mind and never expected it happen.
Perhaps, there’s really one that listened to her last wishes.
But what baffled her was, why this woman?
If her previous life was surrounded by cruelty, death, and schemes and she faced them with resoluteness, this woman’s different. Jiang Ni Yen just didn’t have a strong personality to fight her inner demons.
Jiang Ni Yen’s antics were all the result of poor upbringing and lack of love from her surroundings. Unlike her, her mother was around till she was 10. Albeit her father’s controlling nature, her mother was there to balance everything.
But to this body, there was no one.
Her mother, Jiang Nara was a mistress of Fu Lisheng, President of Coco Pharma. For two years, they kept their illicit affair until it was discovered by Fu Lisheng’s wife. Jiang Nara’s name was equated to the word mistress. In the upper class, her name was whispered from one ear to another. She was shunned by society for being a ‘homewrecker.’
When General Jiang, Nara’s father heard of this rumor, he was mad and denied it. Later, he found out that his only daughter got pregnant out of wedlock, the stoic man disowned his child.
Then, Jiang Nara died at childbirth due to eclampsia and the newborn baby, Jiang Ni Yen was brought to the Fu household.
Jiang Ni Yen was raised alongside her father’s three children who never stopped bullying and hurling insults at her for being a mistress’ child. At 14, she was sent to the US by his father after avoiding juvenile imprisonment due to poking a classmate’s eyes with a pencil.
Because of the verbal abuses she received as a child and abandonment issues, she joined religious cults and turned to drugs. At one point, she was rushed to the hospital because of overdosing. But this didn’t seem to matter because the moment she got discharged, she curbed in immediately to her addiction.
One day, she woke up inside a room covered with blood. Police suspected her of killing the person found dead in the living room of that small apartment but subsequent investigation proved otherwise. She was stoned when the murder took place and the killer was one in their group.
Getting a whiff of all her foolish conducts thru the local paper, Fu Lisheng hauled her back to the country after realizing that sending his daughter alone overseas resulted in no good. The regretful father was determined to help his daughter.
She was confined for rehabilitation after a series of arguments. He threatened that if she won’t comply, he’ll send him to the monks and live there till the rest of her life. Afraid of this idea, she relented. Months later, she was better and by immersing herself into art, she got busier.
This made her father proud and even arranged gallery showing. He wanted to let all those rumors about her plastered on the local paper to disappear. But much to his embarrassment, all her works were nudes He could barely stomach the lewdness of every painting on the wall.
What’s more, it was too late to stop the press. That time, the Fu became a laughingstock in the upper class. In his anger, he told her to go and hang herself. With her unstable emotions, she attempted to jump from the 3rd-floor balcony. But before she could bring herself to do it, she was pushed down by her older sister with the intent of killing her.
The original’s life was indeed pitiful but if she could have been stronger, then her life wouldn’t have spiraled to this.
In her last life, she fought for nothing. In the end, she died unsettled, regretting every single decision she made.
In this life, she will take a different path. Being given a second chance is rare.
She will rise again.
Not to avenge her unjustly death. No, she already escaped that cruel life.
She has only three goals in this world.
First, she wants to live for herself, to live a life as much as she wants and to abandon all responsibilities that shackled her for the last 25 years in her previous life.
Second, to repent her sin and return to his side.
Third, to redeem this woman’s life.
She’s not some scrap they can simply toss away.
She’s not a wimp they can easily bully.
She’s not a brainless idiot they can jab anytime they want.
She’s stronger, bolder and smarter than all of them combined.
The corner of her lips curved up, drawing a beautiful sly smile.
