The Devil’s Sweetheart - Chapter 455
Morvena screamed inside Leena’s head. ‘I can’t hold anymore, Leena.’ And it was all that took Leena to close the chat session. The only power source emitting the little light to keep her sanity in check was shut down by one click, turning the room into pitch blackness.
Her fear of darkness paled compared to the terror of getting caught by guards, or worse, Enger. Relying on the wisdom of her touch, Leena placed her hands on the walls. Like a blind man at an orgy, slowly but carefully, feeling her way through, she climbed down the stairs and walked to the one floor below her.
She could hear the whispers of guards as she walked. The moment Leena held the doorknob to open the door, it was unlocked from the other end. To make the matter worse, the whole palace lit up.
Feeling nothing but cold terror, her hands went cold and clammy as she watched Enger standing in front of her.
”Where did you go?” Enger demanded. The moment the door opened, he came back to check upon Leena, and the room was empty to his trepidation. ”A maid didnot see you in the room when she came here.”
”I_I was..I was scared to stay alone.” She muttered nonsense that came to her mind at the instant. ”I get anxious and depressed in darkness. So, I went in search of you.”
”I am sorry. I should have been with you.” Enger’s spirits went flying high hearing Leena’s confession. His heart dared to hope that Leena leaned to him for comfort. ”You want me to stay with you?” He asked in hope.
”No. I am not yet comfortable.” She replied and went inside the room, closed the door.
”Which means she will allow when she is comfortable.” The thought of holding her hands to sleep made him feel giddy. Smiling to himself, Enger made his way to the third floor. He went into the study room to video connect with the Leius CEO, Enger found the laptop hot for his fingers to touch. ”How? I didnot used it since morning.” As he was in suspicious thoughts, the video call connected, and he forgot the matter aside.
…..
Kurt doesn’t know if he feels happy that he found his enemy or sad that his enemy himself knocked on his door. Correction, it’s her. She has been sneaking around him all years. How many times he rebuked Elysian in Leena’s presence. Will she take revenge for that? He still remembered the deal they made. The thought of wearing a girly outfit shuddered him. Now that the cat is out of the bag, he is dead meat.
Meanwhile, Adney found the location of the IP address and showed it on the maps. It was an island surrounded by the waters. ”So, this is the reason we are unable to locate,” Adney said as he zoomed the part of the island alone. ”It’s Maushus Fay, A private island in the Bahamas.”
”A private island in the Bahamas.” Devin thought hard, making the probabilities of getting there. He then addressed Francis and Fredrick. ”I will go Russia to find the evidence. Can you manage the permit in secret?”
”Getting a permit to a private island in a different country is not an easy task, son. But we will try,” Fredrick added. ”If the government doesn’t allow it, we will release a press conference with Leena_”
”No. I don’t want to put Leena in the limelight. It causes unnecessary gossips.” Devin declined without a second thought. ”We will keep the announcement as the last straw. If we can show the evidence against Enger, no one can stop us.” As Leena said, he would bring her home with honor.
”I will come to Russia along with you, Vincy.” Wilbur offered, but then Devin declined. Nick and Carrot are injured, and the family is not in the proper senses. With his father-in-law and his dad not around here, there should be someone here in case of emergencies.
”Call us if you find anything,” Francis said. ”I will start to the Bahamas, right away.”
Before leaving for Russia, Devin went to the pet hospital to check on Carrot. Although Nick took the bullet to his stomach, he is recovering fast, but Carrot’s condition is not improved.
She would be happily roaming today if only she got a kick in her stomach, but the fall from the first floor to the ground has implicated her health badly.
Devin pushed opened the door and went inside. A vet doctor was sitting next to Carrot. The little one would jump in happiness and circle around him when he returned home, but today, she was lying on the bed like a lifeless doll with bandages on her stomach.
”How is she doing? Any improvement.” Devin caressed Carrot’s head. Sensing the familiar presence, Carrot opened her eyes and looked at Devin with her hope-filled eyes.
‘”Can we talk in private, Sir?” The doctor said in a whisper. Devin nodded and followed the vet to the private cabin.
”Is she not doing well?” Devin asked.
”Her condition is worsening. The injury is not a big deal for her if she wants to live, but sometimes pain not only comes in the physical form. She is mentally stressed. The only medicine is the unconditional love from someone she holds dear to her heart.” The vet explained.
So, it’s not only him, but even Carrot is longing for Leena. Half-nodding his head in understanding, Devin went back to Carrot’s room. ”Carrot.” Devin softly called her, sitting beside the pup.
Carrot glanced at him.
”You want to see Leena?”
Her eyes shone at the mention of Leena.
”I promise I will bring Leena soon.” He gently stroked her fur body. ”And you should be running happily by the time she is back. Will you do that?”
Carrot tilted her head in response.
Devin smiled and ruffled her hair before leaving. Without delay, Devin started right away to Russia. Along with him, he took Bella, the chemistry professor, Walter’s friend, who helped recover his memories. Since it’s the case related to him, Kurt tagged along with Devin.
With the diligent search and turning the house into a mess, Devin found the evidence hidden inside a safe locker. It was a big bundle of physical copies written in complex chemical compounds. Bella snatched the file and frantically flipped the pages. She read it aloud. ”An atom acquires a negative or positive charge by gaining a negative or positive charge through ionization. What the hell! The drugs manufactured are coeluted compounds.”
”What does that mean?”
”It means when the quality team tests the drugs, it reduces the detection capability and accuracy of the chemicals. It’s hard to believe one of the best pharma companies is doing such a shady business. The chemicals used in the compound are a big threat in the long run if patients consume.” Bella explained.
”How do we bring this into the limelight then?” To Devin’s question, Bella answered. ”Only if we use ion enhancer.”
”The FDA should get involved in this.”
”Leave that to us.” Devin gripped the file tightly. The evidence is enough to put an end to Enger.
