The Divine Wolf.. Or? - Chapter 204
The story of the play was pretty bland, yet very dramatic, and even Ark was intrigued to see what was going to happen next. If this had been his former life, he would’ve never watched something like this, but entertainment in this world was scarce, and usually, when something is rare, you appreciate it more. Since he could also see it with someone he liked, he felt even better. Halfway through the play, the male lead died, and even Ephine started to tear up a little. Ark just quietly held her hand, and she calmed down a little. As if to comfort herself a little she leaned onto Ark a little since they sat next to each other.
For some reason, she could feel her heart beating harder in her c.h.e.s.t, but she paid it no heed, and started focusing on the play again. Ark just acted nonchalantly about the whole thing, but deep inside, his heart was beating loudly. Thufrat wasn’t really concentrating on the play in the first place, so when witnessed their little antics, he grinned and gave Ark a thumbs up. Ark honestly felt a little embarrassed, but he only smiled in reply. After a while, the play finally came to an end. Although it wasn’t the most interesting, Ark had a great time anyway. As they left the theatre, Ark felt as if someone was watching them from behind. Before he could even properly turn around, the gaze vanished. Although it could’ve just been nothing, Ark got a bit more vigilant. Being watched was something he seriously hated, and whoever just watched them didn’t feel like a pleasant person. It could just be his imagination, but Ark didn’t want to gamble on something like that.
With the use of his telepathy, he told everyone to stay vigilant, just in case. Neither Thufrat nor Ephine questioned why they had to stay vigilant, they just did it anyway, they had a lot of faith in Ark after all. Keeping their guard up, they all made their way home without incident. Even though they were curious about why they had to stay vigilant, they didn’t relax even though they were already home. Since they were already home, Ark told them they could relax, but he was still uneasy.
He knew for a fact that someone had been following them, but he didn’t know why, and he didn’t know who either. Usually, he wouldn’t have much of a problem with finding whoever was following him, but the person that was following them today was a real professional, and if he had to guess, it was probably someone that was an even higher level than himself. That didn’t mean Ark was weaker, but it meant that Ark would have a hard time finding out where he was watching them from if it ever happened again.
Although Ark was pretty tired, he knew that he didn’t have the time to laze around. There was no way he was going to relax when someone was lurking in the shadows, watching them. Since the person following them was too high level for Ark to find him, all Ark needed to do was level up. The only problem was how to get to the dungeon without this person following them there. Naturally, he already had his own ideas for this, and he promptly left the house to go to the market.
Almost 5 minutes later, he was already back. He felt a little paranoid leaving the others without him, but he didn’t think anyone would just attack in the open like this. This was also why he didn’t want anyone to follow them to the dungeon, since the one following could very well attack them on the way there, and no one would be able to stop them. In the city it was a different story though. Although the regular guards weren’t the strongest, the guard captain was renowned for his strength, and no one in the entire kingdom would want to be on his bad side, hence why there wasn’t much conflict in the city.
When he went to the market just now, he bought a few coats, one for each of them. Although they wouldn’t be of much help right now, they would be after he had engraved some magic circles on them. Since he wanted them to be able to leave the city unnoticed, the only element he could think of was the darkness element. As the others watched him work so fervently, they started to realise that something must have truly happened for Ark to be this anxious, but the question was what?
“So, you gonna tell us what happened Ark?”
Hearing Thufrat’s deep voice, Ark put down the coats he’d been working on for a bit with a sigh.
“I truly hope that I’m just being paranoid, but when we left the theatre, someone was following us.”
“People have followed us before right? Why are you so fl.u.s.tered?”
“This time was different, I couldn’t feel the person following us at all, I could only feel their gaze, but not their actual presence.”
“If even you couldn’t sense their actual presence, then they have to be pretty high level…”
“I really hope I’m just imagining things.”
After a small talk, Ark taught them all how to use their new robes. It was quite simple really, and since they had all used magical artefacts before, the explaining process was pretty straightforward. Since the mood was a little strange, Ark decided to train a bit. Recently, he had started training his ability to multitask, and he could now train both his mana body and magic circles at the same time. Since he had also had some breakthroughs regarding his magic circles, training his mana body should be a bit faster now as well.
Whilst Ark shut himself in his room to train, the others were unsure of what to do. Seeing Ark so serious about this whole thing and even shutting himself in his room to train, they felt like it would be kind of weird if they just lazed around. Since that was the case, they all decided to train by themselves too.
With everyone training hard by themselves, a few hours had soon passed by, and everyone was beginning to get a little hungry. To be fair, it wasn’t like they really had to eat, since their bodies would be able to go on without food for a few days without problems, but they all enjoyed eating, it was one of the joys of life after all. Even Ark came out of his room when it was time to eat, but that was also mostly because he was the one who was cooking for them today. The tension from earlier had pretty much subsided, and they could all relax as the smell of delicious food wafted out from the kitchen. Ark had been experimenting with different recipes and techniques lately, and he had become a lot better at cooking.
Whilst they were having a good time and ate food together, somewhere else outside of the city, a sinister plot was brewing, something that may come to change their lives forever…
