The Doctor Who Loves Me - Chapter 515
Cali was having too much fun with Rui and she had already forgotten the incident regarding Kane. She and Rui competed for several laps and Cali won every time.
“Gosh are you a mermaid?” Rui beamed with a grin because he could not defeat Cali. She was way ahead of him always.
Cali laughed and said, “I’m an awesome swimmer. This is one of my favourite sports.”
Rui knew that already but he still commented, “No wonder I can’t defeat you. How about you teach me some techniques too huh?”
Cali nodded but she had been swimming for a while already and felt thirsty. She suddenly craved for a soda so she said, “Wait, I’ll go get us some soda…”
“No, I’ll go and get it,” Rui said but Cali was nearer the stairs of the pool.
“It’s okay. I’ll get it. Tell me if you want anything else,” she said chuckling because it was always Rui who often grabbed snacks and drinks.
She went up in a hurry before he could reach her but then she accidentally tripped on the last stair causing, lost her balance and fell facing the ground.
“Ahhh…” she cried in pain as she felt the weight on her knees.
Rui almost flew to get beside her and checked her condition that instant.
“Are you in pain?” He asked with a worried tone. Cali bit her lip and shook her head. She had a bruise on her knee and she heard him curse.
Cali could not have anticipated what happened next. Rui suddenly lifted her up and carried her in his arms as he walked back inside. She was still wet and so was he since they just got out of the pool.
“I think I can walk. Put me down, please,” Cali whispered, feeling shy with their bare bodies brushing together. She could feel his warmth and the hardness of his chest on her palm. How she wanted to wrap her arms around his neck but didn’t because it would look weird and awkward.
She looked at Rui and repeated what she said but Rui did not respond. His face was dark and he looked too worried, so Cali could only sigh.
He went directly inside her bedroom.
“Is there really nothing aching except your bruises?” Rui asked her as he gently put her down to sit on the couch inside her bedroom.
“No. I think I’m fine…” Cali murmured. She had just a bit of pain on her knee because of the stingy bruises but apart from that there was really nothing.
He inspected her legs and knees, pressing and checking as if making sure if she was telling the truth. When he confirmed she was fine Cali heard him heaving a long deep sigh.
‘His expression…’ Cali mused.
“Cali, next time please be more careful. You almost give me a heart attack from watching you fall like that. I don’t want to see as much as a mosquito bite on your skin!” Rui scolded.
He was so worried for her that he tried his best not to scold her as much as he otherwise would have. Just seeing her knee with bruises broke his heart.
Cali could not help but stare at Rui’s face more.
‘Why does it look so familiar?’ She mused, still staring at Rui.
Then, his scolding voice kept on repeating in her head.
Cali’s eyes widened as she unconsciously murmured, “That expression and that scolding. I’ve seen the same expression before. I feel like I’ve been with you before Rui. Like, you did the same thing for me before where you’re worried and scolded me back then too.”
Rui stopped what he was doing and tilted his head up, staring at Cali. She called him with his first name for the first time…
“That expression of yours…”
“Don’t think too much. It’s probably fragments of your lost memory coming back to you.” Rui calmed his heart as he explained. Cali was recalling him but he did not want to bring his hopes up.
He stood up and grabbed the first aid kit only to realize that he was still in his trunks and Cali was still in her bikini, both of them still wet.
Cali seemed to be thinking the same thing as he was because he heard her say, “I think I can manage these simple bruises Doc besides, I have to take a shower too. You should go back to your room and stop displaying your body.”
Rui nodded and immediately left Cali’s room.
He held his chest as he walked back to his room to take a quick shower. Cali’s memories seemed to be coming back.
A sudden glimmer of hope surged through his body. Though he had already set himself to hope for and expect the worst like, Cali would no longer remember him but still he was glad she could recall these little things about him.
He had a quick shower and quickly went back to Cali’s room.
He knocked… Several times but there was no answer. He went inside and called out, “Cali?!”
He suddenly got nervous at not seeing her around in the room. He knocked at the door of her bathroom, “Cali?!”
No answer so Rui quickly opened the door.
“Close your eyes!” Cali shouted at him, so he complied.
“What happened? Why were you not answering?”
“I can’t move my legs… Can you hand me my bathrobe please and don’t open your eyes!”
Rui quickly moved and grabbed it and covered Cali’s n.a.k.e.d body with it. She just stood still at the shower holding the wall for support.
“I said close your eyes!” Cali scolded him, feeling embarrassed of the fact that Rui saw her n.a.k.e.dness.
“We’re in an emergency Cali… Do you think closing my eyes will apply? Stubborn. You probably have a cramp.” Rui uttered as he again carried Cali in his arms to her bed.
He checked her legs and moved them around a little so it would get comfortable and then, slightly massaged them too. He grabbed the first aid kit to attend to her bruises.
Cali was quiet, as she only watched his every movement. Somehow in her heart she could feel the familiarity of what he was doing. She felt like somehow had been taking care of her even before, from a time she couldn’t remember. She felt it from the way he was doing it.
Rui noticed her hair was still wet so he grabbed a towel and started drying Cali’s hair.
“I can do it myself…” she whispered but deep inside her heart she wanted him to take care of her. She even rejoiced a little, when Rui did not listen to her and continued drying her hair himself.
