The Dragons Legacy - Chapter 5 How Was That An Interview?
Leon climbed off the desk, and made his way towards the new hole in the wall. The moment Leon looked through the hole his whole body froze. Resting on the floor of a cave was a massive green head. When the massive head noticed Leon, it lifted its head revealing its darker scales on the underside of its neck. This creature was nothing other than a dragon.
Having no other choice, because he had already been noticed, Leon cautiously made his way into the cave. He could feel the power emanating off of the dragon. Every time the dragon breathed out through its nostrils Leon could feel its breath brush past him, causing Leon to shudder slightly.
“Greetings Leon, son of Gaia” the dragon spoke straight into Leon’s mind with an ancient, and authoritative voice. “It seems that you posses the minimum qualifications to claim this planet for the Jade Dragons.” The dragon seemed to be gazing into the depths of his soul.
“W-what do y-you mean by that…?” Leon couldn’t help but stammer, and let his voice die out by the end of his question. He was quite simply terrified, he had never seen anything as powerful as this creature.
“I mean that you will claim this world for Jade Dragons tribe, and put an end to this farce concocted by Gaia.” The dragon spit out Gaia’s name.
“W-what farce?” Leon replied while resisting the urge to run, and hide.
The dragon appeared to smile, “You will understand in time, young one” the dragon answered with its voice of pure authority. After a short pause the dragon continued “listen to what I’m about to tell you, this will be very important to your future. This is a Legacy Shard.” The dragon said while producing an egg like stone from its mouth. The egg had an ambient green aura lingering on its surface, and was clearly more than just a stone. “This shard will force an evolution upon your body, and give you traits similar to the tribe that created it. These shards are very precious to any tribe, that is able to produce them, and you should feel honored to receive one from us.” The dragon spoke to Leon with disdain.
“Why me?” Leon managed to ask meekly.
“Who knows, Gaia sent you to us, and you passed our test, so you must posses the bare minimum qualifications. Trust me, normally we wouldn’t dream of giving a simple human our Legacy Shard, but these are special circumstances young one. There are near infinite people who would kill for a chance like this in the vast multiverse, so you are very, very lucky…” The dragon said squinting at Leon.
“O-okay so what makes this ‘Legacy Shard’ so valuable then?”
“Like I said it will cause you to evolve, and take on our tribes most valuable features. In the case of our tribe the most notable change will be your mind. Given time you will even be able to speak through someone’s mind like I am doing right now. Dragon shards in particular a extremely valuable, and are regulated heavily. I wonder what people would think when they heard that a lowly human was given a dragon’s Legacy Shard.” The dragon chuckled to itself.
“So why are you giving this to me then?” Leon finally manage to speak without stuttering, though his heart was still beating incredibly fast.
The dragon seemed to smile again “Well that’s a long story, lets just say that we don’t have much of a choice in the matter.”
“Okay, then how do I use this Legacy Shard then?” A terrified Leon asked.

“Just put it in your mouth, and then hope you survive!” The dragon roared as if it thought what it had just said was hilarious, then added “I’ll let you in on a little secret, no human has ever survived ingesting a Legacy Shard before.” The dragon got closer to Leon as it said this, and laid the egg-like stone in front of Leon.
“Why not?” Leon wasn’t to sure about using this Legacy Shard after what he had just heard. Sure if he got even a fraction of this dragons power he would benefit greatly, but that didn’t matter if he was dead.
“That is because only high level creatures, are capable of creating Legacy Shards, and humans are not able to reach a high enough power level in order to survive ingesting the power of a dragon. Although Gaia sent you herself, so maybe you have a very small chance.” The dragon replied with a grin.
“Oh.” Was all Leon could say. He still wasn’t sure that he wanted to risk it, but he had a feeling that if he refused, the dragon would just outright kill him then and there.
As Leon picked up the small egg, he felt waves of immense power emanating off of it. Leon put it closer to his open mouth and gulped. ‘Here goes nothing’ he thought as he closed his eyes and shoved it into his mouth.
The moment the egg touched the back of his throat, it began to dissolve. At first the feeling was pleasant, and he felt like he was drinking the most delicious drink he had ever tasted. This only lasted for a brief moment, and as the energy moved throughout his body, Leon began to scream in pain. Every single part of his body was being forcibly open to receive mana from his surroundings. His brain began a cycle of disintegrating and rebuilding itself stronger than before, and his body began to literally destroy itself. At some point Leon passed out from the pain.
—
When Leon regained consciousness, he was half certain that he had died. He was caked in dry blood from head to toe, and there was a giant puddle of blood surrounding him. He could taste the blood in his throat. He pushed himself off the ground, and spit up more blood.
“Oh you’re alive? How interesting…” The dragons voice echoed through his head clearer than before. “Let me wash you off” the dragon offered, as a Leon was submerged in a ball of water, that washed off all the blood caked to his skin.
After the blood was washed away, Leon noticed something interesting about his body. In place of where his skin should have been, there were glistening green scales. They were as hard as steel, but were far more comfortable than a full set of armour could ever be. They felt like they were a part of his body, and felt quite natural.
“Splendid, you got far more out of the Legacy Shard than I thought that you would have been able to.” The dragon said with genuine curiosity. “To think that you have even gained a primitive draconic form. Perhaps Gaia does have a good eye.” The dragon was grinning again.
“What’s a draconic form?” Leon asked while flexing his new body.
“Well us dragons have what’s called a humanoid form.” The dragon responded while it’s body began rapidly shrinking to the size of a large human. “Essentially, you have gained a form that is similar to our humanoid form, although, unlike me your other form would be your normal human form. If you manage to upgrade your Legacy Shard enough, you could theoretically gain a full dragon form, but I find that to be very unlikely considering you are just a human after all.” The dragon seemed to treat Leon with marginally more more respect that before.
“Oh, so I can go back to a human then?” Leon was a little bit worried about how he was going to explain how he looked to other people, but this was good news. “How do I do it?”
“Heh, now that your mind has improved you should be able to figure it out yourself.” The dragon seemed to want to test him again, and seemed to be genuinely fascinated by Leon.
True to the dragons word, Leon felt like he was able to process his thoughts faster. He also felt like his memory gained a substantial upgrade as well, along with many other subtle improvements that he couldn’t quite describe.
Leon decided to focus on turning into a human, which was a similar process to learning to sense mana, though this time it only took him a minute. As soon as he got it, his scales disintegrated into the air leaving just bare skin. His skin was actually quite a bit thicker now, and could potentially stop a sword slashed by a normal human from cutting off a limb, though Leon didn’t want to test this.
“Fantastic!” The dragon seemed impressed with how fast Leon learned to change his form. “You are quite an interesting human, I wonder how far you will be able to evolve the Shard…” The dragon was talking to itself in Leons head.
“What do you mean about upgrading the Shard?” Leon asked.
“Have you heard of elemental crystals human?” The dragon asked back.
“Um, I don’t think so.” Leon responded.
“They can be found in places with high concentrations of specific elemental mana, and can be used to enhance your Legacy Shard. You use them in a similar way you did the Legacy Shard, although there may be some unpredictable side effects in doing that.”
“What kinds of side effects?” Leon wasn’t looking forwards to experiencing anything like what he had when he absorbed the Legacy Shard.
“Didn’t I just say they are unpredictable human?” The dragon seemed annoyed by Leons question.
Sensing that the dragon was getting annoyed, Leon decided to try and leave before he pissed of the dragon “So how do I get out of the dungeon?”
Still in its humanoid draconic form, the dragon took a ring off of its finger, and tossed it to Leon. “This is a spacial ring, inside it is what you earned for clearing this ‘Dungeon’ along with a key to activate the portal in the mana farm.”
“What do you mean mana farm?” Leon asked before he could stop himself.
Contrary to what Leon expected the dragon just smiled, and started to turn back into its normal gigantuan state and said, “You still have much to learn human…”
As soon as Leon caught the ring, he was teleported back into the ‘lobby room’ which according to the dragon was really a mana farm.
He was standing there reaching out his hand, as if to touch something, but there was nothing there other than a wall. The three doors were now gone, and in place of them was a sign that read “Planet claimed for the Jade Dragon Tribe”.
‘How was that an Interview?’ Leon thought to himself, laughing a little bit. He looked at the ring resting on his palm, and pushed mana into it. Almost immediately he could sense a large room full of all kinds of treasure such as weapons, books, and even gold. On a pedestal was an orange crystal that looked like it would fit right into the slot back on the platform. Leon smiled to himself.
Now that he had a way to get out of this dungeon, Leon wasn’t planning on sticking around. He changed into his draconic form and thought ‘Let’s see just how much more powerful this form really is.’ with a smile, as he began running towards the platform on the other side of the dome with inhuman speed.
In a matter of minutes Leon ran over 30 miles, and was now walking up the stairs to the floating platform. Once he got to the center he put the orange crystal in the open slot, and pushed mana into it.
Right after doing so the formation began to light up orange, and then Leon was engulfed in a bright light, as he teleported out of the strange dungeon.
