The Dream Saga - Chapter 83
“I see. It all makes sense now, but I still can’t believe it. It’s weird, ahh!” Jill sighed with a troubled look on her face.
“Ahh! What a wonderful time you met me. I have a job you can help me with, and in return I will return the favor with anything you ask.”
“Okay, I am in no state to decline, anyway. You owe me. You saved our life. We will do anything you ask for.” Without a second thought, I accepted her request because if it weren’t for her, we’d have been a zombie’s dinner by now.
“Perfect!” she shouted with happiness.
“Who’s she, Kai?” as we conversed, Lee came back to his senses and interrupted us.
“Ah, you’re awake? Go wash yourself! And I will explain to you,”
As Lee went inside the washroom, Jill asked me with a with a curious look on her face,
“What is his specialty? Is he any good?”
I smiled when I heard her. “Well, I will not say much, but that guy took out more than twelve giant zombies in less than 3 seconds. So, it’s up to you to decide,”
“What did you say? HE KILLED TWELVE OF THEM!!! THAT’S INSANE!” She was shocked and couldn’t accept that Lee was this strong and meanwhile he came out of the washroom all dressed in his suit and hairs done.
“So, Kai, who’s this lady? And what happened?”
“Lee, meet Jill and Jill meet Lee.”
“Jill, Lee is the one who saved me from all the zombies and Lee, Jill is the one who saved us from all of them”
“Oh, nice to meet. Thank you for saving me and my master,” he bowed and thanked her. That made her blush. He indeed was a true gentleman.
“Okay fine, we had a quite an introduction, so, what’s the job you were talking about?” I asked her straight, wasting no time as we were in another world and we were running out of time and the world was mixing continuously.
“Yes, I guess you’re right. As we waste time here, others are suffering. We need to make haste. The job I have for you is a typical and risky one. Today in the morning one of my best people. ‘Ada’ went to secure food and other resources from the government drops. But when she was receiving the package zombies attacked at her, she somehow survived but three-four of her men died, and now it’s impossible to rescue her without a party. And unfortunately, all other elites are out on different missions,”
“If we don’t send anyone to rescue her, then we will lose Ada and food. That will lead to destruction of humankind of the state we all depend on her and now on you,”
She was worried sick; she had too much of responsibility on her young shoulder and it melted my heart, but before I could say anything, Lee stood forward and proudly took the job.
“Don’t worry Jill, we will save the whole of humanity! And don’t worry, my mana is recovered now and I can take down around a million of dead men. Even though I am not a human but I want to do something for my master’s old race.”
“As I expected from you, Lee, you are a man of culture. And you don’t have to tell you are not racist, telling it makes you sus.” I made a little joke, but I was kind of serious about the job she gave me.
“Hey, Jill. I am fine with the job. I am sure we can do it but we need a better gear. Because killing so many targets sucks our mana out.”
“Yeah, sure. Come with me. I have something good for you too,” she stood from her chair and walked toward another room, asking us to follow her.
I looked at Lee and followed Jill. As I entered the room, it was dark and smelled like gunpowder. She then switched on the lights and the view I had was amazing. It was a room full of guns and ammunition, as it was an army base.
My mouth was wide open. I never saw a room with this much of guns at once. I always liked guns because they were cool.
“Come here. And try this,” she called me near a counter with handguns.
“Use this. It would be a perfect fit for you. It’s a desert eagle with twelve rounds of ammo. Use this only when the enemy is too close, okay, and here this too,” she wrapped a handgun belt on my waist and inserted a melee knife in it too.
“Take this submachine gun too, use it as your primary weapon.” She loaded a submachine gun and handed me. She pulled something and wrapped it around my wrist.
“What’s this?” I asked, out of curiosity.
“It’s a protecting mostly when a zombie attacks the part that gets infected the most is the arm.”
“Ahh! you’re all done, Lee! Come here.” She patted on my shoulder and called Lee. I felt I was a black op who’s going on an extraction mission.
“Hey, what? What is this? What are you doing?” I was just looking at my gear when I heard Lee’s voice.
I turned my look and saw him resisting against the gear.
“It’s for your benefit on the battlefield! Lee, stop resisting!” she was yelling at him while putting his gear on.
“Finally done! You’re a stubborn brat. But kind of cute”
As she said this, I saw a little blush on his face, as he was shy.
“Lee, I guess we should get going. We shouldn’t waste any more time!” I tried to get Lee out of the embarrassing situation, but suddenly Jill interrupted me.
“Hey! Wait! Do you know how to use a gun!” she asked something so important that she should’ve asked at the start.
“Ah! I guess kind of, I went to target few times!”
“SIGH!” she took a deep breath of relief
“Thank goodness, you scared me for a minute! Let’s get going. My men will drop you near her location through a helicopter. So go now, best of luck!”
“Yes, let’s get going!”
She guided us through the stairs to the rooftop. There was a helicopter above the building. She talked to his men while we waited; she handed Lee a radio and signaled the chopper to take off.
We were in the helicopter now with a few of armed men. The look above the city was disastrous. Hundreds of dead bodies were lying there as insects. Cars were burning and were stacked above each other. Most of the buildings were abandoned and were heavily damaged. Zombies were crawling in every corner of the city. I felt bad for the people of this world. I wanted to solve this zombie problem, but I already had my own problems to deal with.
“Hey, are you two the guys everyone is talking about!!!” one of the armed guys asked me and Lee in a loud voice.
“Yeah! We are! Why everyone talking about us!!” Lee asked him.
“UH! People are saying you two got super powers! And that you two took more than hundred zombies on your own! Is it true?”
“OH! Well yes, we have superpowers and we took down those zombies.”
“Wow really, I want to know more about that-” as we were talking, the pilot interrupted us.
“EVERYONE WE ARRIVED AT THE LOCATION! GET READY TO DISPATCH! THE CHOPPER WILL LEAVE AFTER DROPPING YOU, FIND ADA SHE’S YOUR EXFIL”
As the pilot commanded us, we got ready to leave. I used my thermal vision to check for any zombie that was invisible to naked us, but even after using that, I couldn’t find any of them. That meant the area was clear.
The chopper left us on a roof of a single stored building; it was calm, the other guys were alert too. And here our expedition began.
The two guys leaded the way while me and Lee were following them. We pointed to three and four places where we assumed Ada would be. We started with the nearest place to find Ada and to reach that place we had to move through a school type building.
“Kai, what is this place? Seems like a prison to me.” While we moved through the school hallway, Lee whispered to me.
“Prison, why do you think it’s a prison?” I awkwardly asked him.
“I don’t know. I get the feeling that this is a prison or something or a mental asylum.”
“Um, it’s funny though, but it’s a school! A place where children come to study, but yeah it’s similar to a prison and a torture house because the system treats the children like animals here”
“What? The parents of the children don’t say anything?” he asked.
“That’s the sad part, Lee. They don’t care. They only worry when the children’s scores go down. And then they treat them in the same manner or even worse. They make it look like that even their fault is the child’s fault and when the child fails in life, they make them feel worse! So according to me the both of them are butchers”
“That’s so fucked up!”
“Guys, stop! Something is heading our way! Get ready”
