- Volume 1 Chapter 12 The Meaning Of Eating?
“Why does it feel like a lot of methods involve eating?”
“OH That’s not really true it’s just that eating is the most common way of gaining energy but most methods just go off the element they focus on or the aspect they focus on like the Sacred Flame method and the Grand Fist method. They each focus on flame energy or increasing strength.”
“So its not really that lots of methods involve eating. It’s just my luck?”
“Exactly.”
“Ha~ Fine, how do I start?”
“Well first in order to use your accompanying method you need to reach the first level of the Law Eating method which is to start absorbing energy and adapting your body to keeping it.”
“So read it, understand it, and try it. Right?”
“Yup and while your doing that I’ll also start to practice.”
“OK but what am I supposed to read it from?”
“I’ll copy it down onto a recording tablet and you can go from there.”
Liz flips into her little book and a few seconds later a tablet the size of a small book pops out. She focuses on it and writing starts to appear. Its small but very neat and the writing is actually beautiful in its calligraphy. After she finishes she tosses it over with a swing of her head.
“I’ll practice on the south side of the floor while you practice on the north side. With our cultivation just starting we shouldn’t interfere with each other at that distance.”
“Got it.”
John started to head to the opposite side of the floor he was on from Liz. The distance between them was about 400 feet. The view of the ruins was truly shocking. Even at this height he couldn’t see the edge of them and for some reason the wind was actually very little. This was definitely strange since the ground easily had to be at least 600 feet below the floor he was on.
After looking around John found some stone to prop himself up against so he could read the tablet. The tablet talked of how all life had to eat or consume something to live and grow this meant that all cultivation was was eating and thus growing in the end. The method than went on to talk of how the dragons were the strongest not because of their natural strength or intelligence but because of their vitality. All dragons have terrifying vitality which is what allows them to hold so much Aura and Mana in their bodies. Other being like gods may be able to better use what power they have but no race can compare to the dragons toughness. It then list how dragons are truly amazing and that even with a dragons head cut off it can still fight for nearly an hour like that. After a few more gut wrenching examples of dragon vitality it finally got to the point of why this happens. Thanks to dragons vitality they can absorb laws into themselves over time which will strengthen them to extreme levels. This is important because no other race, even the gods, can bare the strain this puts on the body. All other races that try this method of cultivation will die without question even with it being theorized that it may be possible for rare individuals to accomplish this but it is seen as a near impossible chance and that to even try the individual would need to have at least a 90 in vitality. This was unlikely because the other races at most could have around 50-60 vitality and this was considered a kind of hard limit due to differences in body structure with all races other than dragons being humanoid.
(So that’s why Liz looked so shocked at my vitality score. This really makes me want to know why I have such a high vitality. Now that I think about it my family members have survived some pretty bad accidents over the years. Once or twice would be a miracle but seven to eight times would definitely mean something is up. Even I’ve survived a few bad car accidents in my life but even then getting run over by an eighteen wheeler is something a human just can’t live through especially when all of their organs are smashed.)
John took a minute to refocus onto the tablet and finally got to the part about actually practicing. First one needed to focus the mind and feel the ambient energy around them. Since the method didn’t go into how to do this John decided to try and meditate. After sitting and breathing for what felt like an hour John started to feel like there were swirling masses around him. He opened his eyes and immediately regretted it. The world now looked like someone had but a filter on it filled with as much chaotic flashes and swirls possible. A great dizziness hit John. John then preceded to try and hold back his lunch and a few minutes later his vision returned to normal.
“What the hell was that? Was that ambient energy?”
John gave himself a few minutes to calm down and think about what just happened.
(I think those strange swirls were ambient energy after all that was the first time I’ve ever experienced something like that. This means I’ll have to get used to that feeling. It would be best not to open my eyes when I practice for now since that was what caused me to feel bad. Well since I can now sense ambient energy I should look at how I’m supposed to absorb it and keep it.)
John continued to read the tablet and after a bit found out why the name is Law Eating method. The way to absorb the energy was to swallow it without preparation. Doing this for other races would cause a strain on the body kind of like eating a really strong pepper but much worse since it can cause your organs to burst. Beings with a strong vitality can resist and adapt to this over time. Most other methods though focus on refining the energy before using it so it’s more mild and less chaotic. Dragons on the other hand eat the chaotic energy or they only eat parts of it like only parts with certain elements like lightning.
The Law Eating method was different from other methods and was meant to allow a dragon to directly eat the chaotic energy and also some law fragments that exist in the surroundings. This would then be used with the methods special energy refinement method and would thus allow the body to house both Aura and Mana. John first looked at the method of refinement and noticed it was similar to how the body naturally absorbed nutrients using the intestines and guts. This was why vitality was so important. The strain on the weak and mushy organ was horrible. After that it was all about letting the now nourishing energy to gather and let the body adapt over time.
(This will take a while to get used to put it doesn’t feel impossible. Lets start off slowly with little bits of energy and go from there. After all I feel as if I try to eat all the energy around me I’ll get to die for the second time.)
