The Elemental Lovers [Completed] - zzzChapter 26
I cannot believe that I have arrived at the Midwest Research Station. I was looking out the window when Chris Yang was driving the van that we were inside right now. The music was blaring from the radio as I was listening to my iPod.
“Isn’t this fun guys? We will be there in a couple of minutes,” Chris said as I was smiling. I can see the big mountain and the research facility was small compared to the mountain. It held so many mysteries and I will be uncovering it later. I sighed before I was leaning against the chair as Chris pulled up to the parking lot.
And no more one Dylan Windell, my dark thoughts reminded me before I shook my head. Nope, I will not be thinking about him right now.
“Okay, I will be assigning you each a table and you will set up your equipment there for the rest of 3 weeks. I know that you wanted to stay longer but we will come back later after you get your data and samples from the mountain. I have been told that if the weather permitted, we might be here for another 2 months,” Chris stated as I was smiling before some were cheering.
“Yeah!”
“Go geodes!”
“Geologists rock!”
Chris looked at us before he was trying to settle us down. He stated that he will not promise us the best time of field trip but I know we will have so much fun together and we will be camping in the wild, which was my kind of set up.
I was looking around and there as not much of the females in the field. I was sighing before I saw that Chris was giving us a table and I have my table under the white tarp. It was for the paleoclimate team and I was happy to see that my colleagues will be there as well.
“Well, this should be fun,” one of them said as I was smiling before we were moving out our stuff from the van. We will be camping here and Chris will have some of us to be on duty to get the water from the Midwest Research Station for refilling the water and food.
“Alright, let’s get your tents erect!” Chris ordered and we were putting up our tents around the base.
Dylan Windell’s POV
I was looking at the journal as I was waiting for my engine to be idle before I started my journey to the research station. I wanted to read it when I was in the other possession of my father’s journal but the curiosity got the best with me. I flipped the cover opened and I looked at the entry of Jayson’s journal.
Entry 202
I have been with Theodore when his wife was giving birth to a new healthy boy. Maxwell was happy to know that he will be having a baby brother as I saw the admiration and love in his eyes. But I could not say the same to Theodore, my godson’s father.
I know that look in his eyes. He was still thinking about the theory that he had come up and I had been dragging him out of the lab to forget about it a moment and focused on this precious moment.
Did he not see it? His son was born to this world and he was still trying to make sense of the theory that he was developing. I must say, Theodore, must have gone made with it. I sighed at his unkempt state as his wife was just out of the labor. I wondered if she would be okay with Theodore obsessing with the theory. I can only hope for him to cover and focus on what was important; his family.
I flipped another random page but I was stuck to read it. I was reading at the entry as my eyes were misted with tears that did not fall down my cheeks.
Entry 600
I cannot take it anymore. Theodore was obsessed with the meteorite before anything. He did not want to drink, to eat, or do anything outside the lab. I think he has forgotten what was the most important thing in his life.
His family.
I saw that his wife was struggling to keep up his household. They are not having anything before I saw a strange car that came to the front yard when I was playing with my godson. My pregnant wife was there with me before I saw the man behind the wheels.
Samuel Hayes, Theodore’s older brother.
He came with his wife, Mia, as they went to talk with Theodore’s wife. I saw that she was shocked before she was crying. Mia was comforting her before Samuel was looking at me. He wanted to talk to me alone.
Samuel told me that Theodore has killed himself in the lab when he was working with the spectrometer. Nasty buggers, that one. I know that I will never be able to use it again as I heard the news. I have to make do with everything that I have about my theory. I hope Theodore will approve of me using his calculation for my theory.
They are related, you see, the Big Bang evolution with the formation of the Old Ocean. I wanted to grief but I know Theodore was bringing this onto himself. I saw his wife was lost before Mia was hugging her.
I know that she will be taken care and I know from that moment, I will never see my godson again.
I was sniffing before I was wiping the tears that were coming out of my eyes. I see I have been reading this all wrong. My father was suicidal and I blamed for his best friend. I think I owe an apology to my future fiancée if she had me. I shifted the gear into D and I was out of the ranch to find my runaway bride in the middle of the dessert.
Daisy Dyer’s POV
I was putting my boxes onto the table that will be my station for the next 3 months. It has been a long time since I was on the field. This will be a good time to forget the past and moved on from the future.
I smiled as I was looking at the other researchers of climate change before I heard some commotion in the other room. I turned to look at one of my colleagues.
“What’s going on there?” I said as I was setting up my table. I don’t think the weather will be bad for us to take a sample here.
“I don’t know but something about a guy that researches in aerospace was trying to get into this station as well. He said that he wanted to take a sample of the asteroid that he believed to be here from a scientific journal. Our supervisor was trying to say no to him,” she said as I was shaking my head.
I think that guy was nuts to pass through Christ Yang at this moment.
I was putting some stuff before I was looking at the box that was settled on my table as well.
“Excuse me but this table was taken,” I said before I turned to look at the person who was standing there. I gasped as I did not think to see him here.
“What are you doing here?” I hissed at him as he smirked before he was leaning closer to me.
“I am here to do some research, Ms. Dyer. Why would you think otherwise?” He said as he was pulling out some of the equipment.
“Hey, this is my table and—”
“Ah, I’m sorry to tell you, Daisy, but from today onward, you will be working with Mr. Windell here. He has some letters that backed him up to be here, even though I told him no because we don’t have enough space. But it seems that he knows you so I hope you don’t mind working with Mr. Dylan Windell here. He stated that you’re from the same university,” Chris said as I was smiling at him.
“Sure, no problem,” I said before Chris went away and I turned to look at Windell again.
“Seriously, I don’t believe that shit for one bit. So, why don’t you tell me the truth, Dylan?” I said bitterly as I was glaring at him. He smirked before he leaned closer and he whispered to me in that husky voice of his.
“We had shared a bed and I was your first lover. I think I wanted to keep that title to myself,”
“Is that what you’re doing here? You’re insane,” I hissed at him. He chuckled as he was looking into my eyes as his stormy grey darkened.
“Be careful, Daisy, or you might get caught in the storm where only I can save you,” he warned me before he smirked.
“We should set up our equipment if we don’t want to be late for dinner,” he said as he was pulling out his equipment. Why was he being so difficult? And why was my Fate has to tangle with him?
Why do I have the misfortune of knowing Dylan Windell and lost in our passion that night?
