The Epic of Leviathan - Chapter 529: Yggdrasil Climb (II)...
[VIP Box]
“I suppose… they have to climb a giant tree. Well, that is not obvious at all…” Nemuri said dryly while glancing around in the VIP box. Her gaze landed on Hela who looked completely uninterested even before the variant of the Rating Game came up. She wasn’t interested in Rias’ Rating Game in the first place.
“Come on, Nemuri. You shouldn’t be so dismissive… It might turn out to be something nice like the last game” Nat tried to placate Nemuri. The purple-haired kitsune decided to give it a try, but she wasn’t having any high hopes.
While Nemuri and Nat were chatting among each other, the same thing was happening among the Leaders of the other Factions. The Leaders of Asgard were having a kind of very interesting conversation. As soon as the name of the Rating Game was revealed, they already knew what was going to happen.
“I can’t believe they decided to use Yggdrasil for naming a variant of Rating Game” Thor whispered furiously. He had been throwing worried glances towards Hela from time to time. He was extremely afraid of the woman and he wanted to avoid crossing the woman at any cost.
“Don’t be so quick to judge… I think they simply took the idea” Odin said with a smile on his face as he stroked his breath. The women in the Destroyer’s group were extremely beautiful, so Odin obviously wanted to leer at them, but for whatever reason, he simply couldn’t turn his head or eyes in that direction.
Odin was persistent if nothing else, so he continued trying to stare in that direction, but he quickly decided to give up when he heard a voice inside his head. ‘If you don’t stop then I will beat you into Asgardian paste before erasing you’ his voice was completely neutral, but Odin easily sensed the underlying malice.
So, Odin decided that there were other birds too… After all, staying alive was much more important. “Father, I am worried Sona Sitri, she was hiding a lot of power” Thor muttered and Odin solemnly nodded his head.
“I also sensed Holy Aura from her… How a Devil can possess Holy Aura is simply beyond me” Odin grumbled and then he glanced towards Azazel and Michael. “I am not the only one who has sensed it, but the Old Crow didn’t seem to be surprised like Michael, so I suppose that the Crow already knows something about this” Odin pointed out and Brynhildr couldn’t stop herself from frowning.
“I have heard that Sairaorg Bael is supposed to be the strongest young Devil, but it seems that we have been lacking a lot of information” Brynhildr scowled and Odin simply hummed while stroking his beard.
“Don’t underestimate Sairaorg Bael… See that guy” Odin gestured towards an orange-haired young boy in Sairaorg’s Peerage. Both Thor and Brynhildr gave Odin a questioning look, both of them had noticed the boy, but the boy didn’t seem to be anything special… Did they miss something?
“He seems to be nothing special, but I say, he is the most special in that Peerage. In reality, that boy isn’t a Devil, he is the spirit of a Sacred Gear” Odin revealed with a grin on his face. Both Thor and Brynhildr gaped after hearing Odin’s words. They wanted to ask more questions, but Odin simply raised his hand to stop both of them.
“The Crow had noticed it too…” Odin grumbled and released a sigh.
“She has also noticed it, but she hasn’t said anything…” Odin said gesturing towards Hela. “I can’t sure as I am not an expert of Sacred Gears, but I think that the boy is the spirit of the Longinus, Regulus Nemea” Odin revealed, and once again Thor and Brynhildr could only gape in shock and surprise.
“For now, let’s see wait and see what happens… It seems that Grayfia Lucifuge is about to explain this Yggdrasil Game…” Odin said as he continued to stroke his beard. For now, both Thor and Brynhildr decided to wait, they could always have a discussion with Odin after returning…
[Rating Game Field]
“Some of you might have already guessed the objective of the Game, but allow me to clear all of your doubts… Yggdrasil Climb is a variant of Rating Game where both teams will need to run up the artificial Yggdrasil, and the one who reaches the goal on top of the Yggdrasil is the winner” Grayfia decided to take a small pause so that everyone can digest the information she gave them.
“Unlike in the Rampage Ball Game, you can also win by eliminating the King of opposing team. Pawn Promotion is restricted until you reach the halfway point. The ability of flight will be also restricted in this Game” Grayfia finished her explanation and teleported away from the platform. Yggdrasil Climb Game is going to take a lot of time if the teams aren’t planning to attack the Kings of the opposing team.
In the game of Chess, King is not the most powerful or the fastest piece on the board. Instead, the King is the most vulnerable piece on the board. The general objective of a game of Chess is to take the enemy King while protecting your own King, but that wasn’t the case in a Devil Peerage. The Evil Pieces might be based on a Chess-set, but there are some glaring differences between the actual game and a Devil Peerage.
In a Devil Peerage, the King is the strongest member, at least technically. Most of the time, the difference was pretty obvious. For example all the former Devil Kings. All four of them were the strongest members within their Peerages. So, you can’t always think about attacking the King of the opposing team when you can achieve victory in an alternate way.
It was obvious that Rias Gremory won’t be looking for direct conflict. In fact, she would be trying her best to avoid any sort of direct confrontation and there was a chance that Sairaorg might try to attack Rias directly, but Sairaorg was a pretty righteous guy, so he might leave the confrontation to chances and try to reach the top of Yggdrasil to win the Game.
“So, what are you planning to do, Rias?” Akeno asked in a slightly worried tone. Rias simply released a sigh and then she smiled. She didn’t have any Pawns, so the Pawn Promotion was completely out of question. She did have two Knights, but only one of them could utilize the Speed of a Knight and then there was Koneko.
Rias suspected that right now, Koneko was probably the strongest member in her Peerage. She hasn’t seen everything Koneko is capable of, but she had seen him fighting against those Magicians in Kuoh Town and Koneko was amazing. Rias had to grudgingly admit that Koneko was strong enough to participate in that fight even though she didn’t want her to.
“We are going to aim for the top… There is no way that we could defeat my cousin if we try to fight him directly. He is known to be the strongest among Young Devil and probably Sona is the only one who can oppose him directly” Rias said while rubbing her head. Akeno couldn’t help but agree with Rias.
“Kiba, you must avoid any sort of direct confrontation at any cost. Even if it means that you need to leave someone behind” Rias said, Kiba wanted to protest, but Rias raised her hand to stop him from saying anything. “You are the fastest member of my Peerage. If I lose you then I have already lost the game” Rias added and Kiba reluctantly agreed with Rias’ words.
“Good… Koneko, I want you to accompany Kiba and Akeno, you will be also going with them” Rias said and she immediately received a bewildered look from her Queen.
“What about you, Rias? Don’t you think that I should stay with you?” Akeno questioned and Rias shook her head.
“No, if Sairaorg decides to attack me directly then we have already lost… it won’t matter if you are with me or not. I want you to support Kiba as the only way we can win this Game is by reaching the top” Rias said with a serious look on her face, leaving no room for any more arguments.
“Fine… but you must keep yourself safe” Akeno said with a huff and Rias simply smiled.
“That is the plan, I will be staying with Gasper, Asia, and Katase” Rias said and Akeno nodded her head…
Meanwhile, Sairaorg was having a similar type of conversation with his Peerage members…
“So, how do we do this? Going after your cousin would be the fastest way to finish this Game” Kuisha Abaddon, Sairaorg Bael’s Queen suggested, a few members of the Peerage seemed to agree with Kuisha Abaddon’s suggestion.
“Yes, I admit that attacking her would be the fastest and the easiest way to win the Game, but all of you already know that I don’t like doing things in an easy way and I also want to give her a fighting chance…” Sairaorg said with a confident smile on his face. None of his Peerage members argued or looked displeased with his suggestion.
“But if we encounter any of them, then we take them down” Sairaorg added and slammed his fist on his other palm. They spent the rest of their time taking care of some minor details… Soon, it was already time to start the Game.
“It is time… Let’s start the Game!!” Grayfia exclaimed and both Sairaorg and Rias found themselves standing near the trunk of a massive tree along with their Peerage members, but both of them were on the opposite sides of the trunk. The tree was reaching past the clouds and both teams immediately knew that this was going to be a long Game.
The trunk of the tree was so thick, that if they try to go on the other side, it will take nearly 15 minutes or probably more… you can only find the members of the opposing team on the higher part of the tree… Both of the teams have prepared their plans, so there was nothing else to do, besides climb up…
