The Epic of Leviathan - Chapter 548: 2nd Round (II)...
[Rating Game Field]
When the 30 minutes break was finally over, Sona Sitri and Xenovia Quarta along with their Team members and in the case of Sona, her Peerage members were transported into a swamp. Sona immediately grimaced as she looked around.
Not only did everyone find themselves knee-deep in the swamp, but a raging storm was also heavily limiting their vision and other senses. Thankfully, Sona and her Peerage members weren’t scattered across the Game Field.
“This is one of the worst settings for the Board Collapse Game” Sona grumbled while shaking her head. Sona wasn’t pleased in the slightest, but there wasn’t anything she could do. Though she wondered how the spectators were going to watch the Game when the visibility was so low.
‘Maybe, they have a way to look past the heavy storm…’ Sona wondered. She wouldn’t be surprised if there was a device or artefact, which helped them look past the storm. The Game Field was created by Ajuka Beelzebub, so he could very well create a device that could look past the scenario created by the Game Field.
What Sona didn’t know was that her suspicion was spot-on. Ajuka did have a device that allowed him to see past the scenario created by the Game Field and the spectators were not having a problem due to the raging storm.
“I can’t even see what’s right in front of us! How the hell are we even supposed to fight?!” Reya Kusaka screamed in frustration. Sona raised her hand and cast the Waterproof Spell on her glasses. Due to the rain, the glasses were making her vision even worse. Her vision drastically improved after she cast the Waterproof Spell on her glasses.
“I don’t like this place” Murayama muttered with a disgusted look on her face. She didn’t like how the mud was sticking to her legs.
“Hmm! Hmm! You are right!!” Bennia eagerly nodded her head like a little girl. She also didn’t like how the swamp had ruined her clothes. Her clothes were the limited edition of Magical Girl Levia-Tan, she was extremely displeased over the fact that her clothes had been ruined.
“Come on, Bennia. You shouldn’t be such a baby” Maka griped with an annoying look on her face. Right now, Maka was having a hard time covering her face, she didn’t like the heavy rain hitting against her face.
“What is the plan, Kaichou?” Genshirou Saji asked as he slowly approached Sona with quite some difficulties. The swamp was making it way too hard for them to move.
“First of all, we would need to get out of this swamp” Sona deadpanned and two leathery bat-wings popped out of her back and she slowly rose up in the air. The others also followed her example and rose up in the air. Murayama and Bennia finally released a relieved sigh.
Sona also realized that they had a huge advantage over the members of the Church Faction. Only the members of the Church Faction and the Youkai Faction were not capable of flight… Well, there were a lot of Tengus in the Youkai Faction, they were capable of flight.
Even though Sona had a huge advantage… there was no way that she could utilize the said advantage, especially when she couldn’t see a damn thing in front of her. She didn’t even know in which direction the edges of the Game Field were. Sona was finally brought out of her musings by one of her Bishops.
“Kaichou, I have an idea. I could use the Swamp as a Sonar to locate the other Team” Momo Hanakai proposed. Sona admitted that the idea was good, but there was a small problem.
“The storm would heavily interfere” before Sona could reveal the problem, it was Tsubaki who decided to point out the obvious shortcoming. After hearing Tsubaki’s words, Momo became disappointed.
Then all of a sudden, a thought clicked inside Sona’s mind. Even though the storm is going to interfere, the storm is equally spread out everywhere. At least Sona suspected that. The other Team members were probably going to stick together, so they will be easy to locate due to their high concentration.
“Give it a try… I think it would work” Sona said while looking at Momo.
“Ok, I will give it a try, but I would need Reya’s help. It would be better if all of you stay up in the sky for the time being” Momo suggested and Sona simply nodded her head in acknowledgement.
Momo and Reya immediately landed in the swamp without wasting any more time. Momo whispered something into Reya’s ear and Reya simply gave her a curt nod of her head. Both of them plunged their hands into the swamp and ripples started to originate in the swamp from where their hands were submerged. It took Momo and Reya a couple of seconds to bring their ripples into a perfect sync.
Everyone noticed a slight humming sound originating from the swamp, but it was almost negligible if you aren’t specifically looking for it. Sona lowered herself towards the swamp so that she could talk with her Bishops, but she decided to wait for a couple of minutes before asking anything. The two of them seemed to be in deep concentration.
“Have you guys found anything?” Unable to hold herself back any longer, Sona finally asked. Reya cracked open her eyes and looked up so that she could look at her King, who was still floating in the sky.
“Kaichou, the edges are that way!” Reya exclaimed while pointing her chin towards their left. Sona looked in that direction and gave a subtle nod.
“How much longer can we stay here?” Sona asked curiously.
“At least, fifteen to twenty minutes… nothing more than that” Reya answered while shaking her head. Momo finally opened her eyes, and she looked completely sullen.
“I haven’t been able to locate the other Team, but I am sure that they are in that way” Momo said, pointing her chin towards their right.
‘I already knew that when Reya mentioned that the edges were on the left’ Sona thought, but she couldn’t bring herself to voice her words. Momo and Reya were working hard, she could at least honour their hard work.
“Ok, keep looking. We will move in 10 minutes” Sona declared. The rest of her Peerage members also arrived around Sona and decided to wait for 10 minutes.
Meanwhile on the other side of the Game Field. Xenovia and her Team were not having a good time. They were also facing the same problems as Sona and her Peerage, but unfortunately for them, they couldn’t fly in the sky, unlike the Devils.
“Xenovia, we should use the wings of truth” Xenovia’s Queen proposed, but Xenovia immediately shook her head in denial.
“No. We will be saving it for later. If we end up using the artefacts right now then we will look like fools if the Devils decide to attack up from the sky” Xenovia explained and the Queen could only relent as Xenovia was completely right.
“Hey, are we even going in the right direction?” One of the Pawns questioned from the back. “We won’t end up near the edges, right?” The same Pawn added and Xenovia had to force herself from rolling her eyes.
“Maybe… I am taking us where the Devils are and if they are near the edges then it is not my fault” One of the Bishops snarked loudly. She had a compass type of device in her hands. She was using the device to locate the Devils.
This was a smaller version of the Devil Radar they had in the Vatican. They had to make a radar to locate Devils so that no Devils could infiltrate the Holy City. So, for the Rating Games, their Research department had created a miniature device, the device wasn’t without a few shortcomings.
This device wasn’t as accurate as the device they had in the Vatican as this device only pointed the direction, instead of giving them the exact location and this device could only be used for a couple of hours before the internals get fried due to overheating, but due to the current scenario of the Game Field, they would be able to extend the operation time of the device…
“Did you hear that?” All of a sudden one of the Knights froze and questioned while looking at Xenovia.
“Hear what?” The other Knight questioned with a confused look on her face.
“Yes… I could feel very weak ripples in the swamp. They are pretty weak, so it might be due to the rain…” one of the Rooks said with a thoughtful look on his face.
“The slight humming noise… Can’t you hear it, Xenovia? And for the record, I am also feeling the ripples” The first Knight snapped again, and now that Xenovia was also paying close attention to the swamp, she clearly felt the ripples and the slight humming noise.
The ripples were so weak that they could have been easily ignored due to the storm, but thankfully, one of her Rooks was quite sensitive to his surroundings, or they would have easily missed the ripples and even though the humming noise was easily audible, once again, it could have been ignored due to the storm. Thanks to one of her Knights, now she knew that the Devils were also probably trying something to locate them.
“It seems that they are also looking for us… Let’s increase our pace” Xenovia ordered and everybody decided to follow her commands without questions…
