The Eternal World - Chapter 7
Rosys trip to the palace
The next day. It was such a bright and clear day that it made me reflexively scowl.
Most importantly, with the nearing of the date to the meeting with the prince, the opponent I most wanted to avoid, my heart was in clear contrast to the weather-quite cloudy.
Even though I said I don’t want to, so many times yesterday, my mother ignored her daughter’s choice and demanded I wear the dress she picked. But I won’t yield on this one. It would be troublesome for my plan to fail. Going above the spoilt child’s play I started an act of throwing a tantrum. Running out of my room I took refuge in Oscar’s room and barricaded myself in it, like in a castle, by placing a chair against the door. As such I dragged this out as close as possible to the time of departure. Oscar was looking at me with suspicious eyes, that were asking what was going on, but it’s important I persevere.
The result. My perseverance paid off.
When I was preparing to put on the dress that I chose, unbelievablya garish make up was about to be put on me.
I was almost at the end of my patience and the rage in me was growing.
I was seriously ready to snap.
I’m in the carriage now.
Opposite me was sitting my father, still and quiet as a statue.
Please forgive me for showing a somewhat tired face.
After that, surprisingly father stopped mother’s rampage. Would he do that for a daughter he supposedly doesn’t like?
“Father, I apologize for the commotion.”
“That is “that” was at faultDon’t mind it.”
Ohhhlooks like it really was for my sake.
“Thank you very much, father. I will behave at the palace.”
“Un”
There were no other conversations after that but the strained atmosphere loosened up a bit.
When I got off the carriage at the royal palace, my world, that up till now consisted of my family’s mansion only, instantly expanded. Was it nervousness or excitement? I could feel my body slightly trembling. My tension was rising.
The white palace.
If I had to describe it with one word-amazing!
Whether from the right or left you could not see the end of this palace made of stone. When I looked out of the carriage on the way here, there was a splendidly maintained grand garden. Maybe it was open to the public, in the distance I could see ladies dressed in various colored dresses.
When I looked back toward the palace, there were a lot of people striding through the passage. Looks like the hair colors in this world were quite diverse.
By the way, father has dark tawny hair, mother’s is bright chestnut-color, I guess. The servants also all had brown colored hair, so why am I the only one with blue hair? While thinking that, I could not help but feel a little alienated and yet trough my observations I could tell it was nothing strange.
There were people with red, purple, green and silver hair. But I’ve yet to see a person with black hair.
While I was looking around in curiosity my father cleared his throat. Looking up I met his eyes, which were telling me “let’s go” through eye contact.
Since I was walking on the right side of my father, I locked my line of sight on his right hand. Glimpsing at father’s sharp looking profile, I grabbed his hand lightly. It’s a link between a parent and a child. His left hand betrayed his unease but I’ll pretend not to notice.
Father too, didn’t shake off my hand.
While walking for a while through the needlessly spacious halls we finally stopped in front of a door.
“Rosy, you wait in here. After that follow the guide.”
“Yes.”
“I have some work so I’ll be going. Don’t voluntarily go back by yourself.”
“Yes, father. I understand.”
“Make sure you don’t make some careless mistake.”
“Yes. Father, too work hard.”
“Aaa”
Father feeling shaken for every little thing is funny but since this is the royal palace he came to his senses fast and tightened his expression. But well, it’s a place with no one around so I don’t think anyone saw.
I stood in front of the luxurious door for a while, then took a deep breath.
It looked like a very heavy door but when I pushed it open, it didn’t give that much resistance. The sunlight flooding in from the big window blinded me for a moment but I got used to it right away. There were already two other persons inside the room.
“You are the last one.”
Entering the room and walking up to them I noticed they were around the same age as me but I was taller thanthem. Well, it was only by half a forehead though.
“I am Hugo Dofall. Nice to meet you.
“Edmund Hensur. Pleased to make your acquaintance.”
“Rosemary Randol. Pleased to make your acquaintance.”
“Well, we’ll be in the same class in the academy too. So let’s take it easy.”
“Academy?”
“Eh? You don’t know? When we are 15 we’ll have to enter the academy, you know?”
“Is that how it is? I hadn’t been informed yet.”
“You can’t see it from here but it’s the building that is next to the palace. Because it’s a dormitory school we’ll be living there the whole time.”
Ohhh! Is that how it is? As I thought the communication in our family is really bad.
And with that you may wonder if this is how a conversation between 5-year-old kids is supposed to be but they were indeed kids. The topic switched to studying and things they liked and it became a lively conversation.
“Since I’ll become a knight I started training, you know?”
“What do you do?”
“First of all I have to remember the katas. It’s repeating the same thing over and over again, so it’s boring though.”
“But that’s the basics, right?”
“Yeah. But if I don’t get this right I can’t continue further.”
“By the way, what had you been playing with up till now?”
Let me gather a little information. I have to teach Oscar how to play.
“Since I have an older brother we played hide and seek. And for some reason he always knew where to find me. I always lost.”
Oho, right. There was hide and seek.
“I have a younger brother, that is only two, so hide and seek is impossible. We play with building blocks.”
“I hate playing with building blocks. They always collapse.”
“Yeah, sometimes it doesn’t go well for my little brother too. When that happens he throws a fit.”
“You two are you always together with your brothers?”
“Yes, unless we’re studying we’re usually together.”
“Me, too. After all older brother is always meddling. When I practice swinging he’ll come and kick me from behind, you know?”
As I thoughtthis is normalour house is certainly strange.
While we were sitting on the lounge sofa and having trifling conversation a man came in.
“His highness the prince is ready to see you. I’ll guild you.”
At last the time has come.
The plan is as such: without standing out, without making a racket, I’ll become like the air! I’ll ensure I’ll be seen as a perfectly harmless air woman!
While praying that I won’t have to visit the palace so often I gather strength in my stomach.
Following the attendant and leaving the room, we headed towards the salon we exchanged greetings at. I became astounded at my carelessness.
I forgot my folding fan at the room from before.
We haven’t even gone 50 meters yet, so I’ll ask if I can go retrieve it.
“Excuse me, I apologize but I seem to have forgotten something in the room just now. Would it be possible to have some time to go and retrieve it?”
“We don’t mind.”
“Please hurry.”
“Thank you.”
Hurriedly leaving I hastened to the anteroom from before. Turning the corner and arriving close to my destination, probably due to having to clean up I saw the maids entering. Probably due to having to pull the wagon the door was left open.
Great, since no one was looking I rushed there.
II stopped in front of the door.
“The young lady just now was the one, right?”
“It seem so. The one with the blue hair.”
Eh?
“The madam wears such gaudy dresses but the young lady didn’t seem to do so.
“That’s right. I certainly thought that since they are parent and child they’ll both dress like peacocks together.”
Uwaaa. I knew it. My senses weren’t wrong.
“But, I wonder about her personality Because”
“That’s right. Because”
My legs unconsciously took me away from the door. Putting a hand on the wall I walked with unsteady steps away.
Right now I don’t even now where I am.
“What’s wrong?”
Hearing a voice, I slowly raised my head. In front of me was the face of one of the boys I had just talked with.
“Since you were being slow, I came to pick you up are you not feeling well.”
“Ah, no. I am fine.”
“Is that so? Then it’s okay.”
“Did you find the thing you had forgotten?”
“Eh? Ah, yes. Of course.”
“If that is so, let us go.”
It’s not goodmy body’s shiveringthere’s a headache and I feel like puking.
“Your highness, I brought the guests.”
“Enter”
When I heard the address” your highness” I remembered what I had come here to do and so returned to my senses.
This is bad. If I disgrace myself, I’ll cause father problems.
Sorry for the wait but life can be a real bitch sometimes. Hopefully the next chapter would come faster. Oops, the last lines had disappeared somewhere. Sorry.
