The Evil Dragon Reincarnates Into A Human - Chapter 18
A week had quickly passed by, and the day scheduled for the monster subjugation have finally arrived.
“Caine, remember to listen to your father, don’t go running into the frontline.” Mother’s tone was completely solemn.
“Yes Mother.”
“Alright then, I’ll see you later.” Mother then proceeded to kiss me on the cheek.
Sigh, looking at the armours that I am wearing, I felt embarrassed to even go out.
Despite saying that I will be fine with only wearing light armour, mother strongly disagreed and had the local blacksmith make a custom steel Armor and sword.
Since the armour is made for children, only a thin layer of steel is added on top of a layer of leather. Otherwise if the entire set was made of steel, then an average five years old wouldn’t even be able to take a single step.
It not that I don’t like the design, to be honest it looks pretty good. It’s just that
“Pfft! Look at that, is that the Earl’s son?”
“Look at what he is wearing, does he really think he will be able to kill a beast? He probably would piss himself when even seeing one.”
“Ha ha!”
The armour stands out too much, with just glance, people will be able to easily recognise me being the son of the Earl.
At first I didn’t want to participate in the real battle, all I wanted was to sightsee, but now it really pisses me off!
The people who were mocking me instantly shut up, after they felt the stare of father.
I was surprised by father’s action, normally he is stern and strict. He doesn’t interact with his children much even when it comes to Raine, his biological daughter.
“Thank you, father.”
Father coughed then said, “That was only temporary, if you really want to stop then you must prove to them that you are worthy of being their future Lord.”
I didn’t say anything after than and only nodded my head in response.
To be honest, I really don’t want to become the future Earl of this territory. After all my wish is to become an adventurer, if I were to become an Earl then I’ll get drowned in endless amount of paperwork’s just like father.
Sigh, for the time being I will just focus on today’s subjugation. I’ll just simply kill a low-level beast to shut the gossipers up.
“Report! There are about 5 beasts up ahead!” One of the magicians who were specialised in Wind magics reported.
Magicians who are proficient in Wind magics are able to use detection magics to detect nearby beasts. However, unlike my GUI Map, they are unable to determine their race and level.
Since the start of the subjugation, I have already changed the setting for the notification function, if any high-level beasts are to come in within 1 KM radius from my location then I will be instantly notified.
Looking at the Local Map, the five beasts the magician is talking about should be the five wolves up ahead, there levels are between 19 and 24. According to how people label their ranks, they should be around D-Ranks.
(((
Note: The grading systems works differently for beast, due to their significant different between each race. So, when it comes to beasts, human categorize them using E-SSS ranks. With E being the weakest and SSS being the strongest.
They will be determined based on their race and levels.
)))
“Everyone gets into battle formation!”
It didn’t take many efforts for the knights to quickly take down the five D-Rank wolves. The spoils were all being collected into a spatial bag; however, the spatial bag had a limited spatial storage, so they only extracted the pelts.
After extracting the pelts, we decided to settle down and take a break, some of the knights started to chat among themselves.
“We have walked deeper into the forest for about half an hour already, but all we hunted so far are only low-level and a few mid-level beasts. Where are the high-level ones?”
“Mhm, it really is weird.”
I have already noticed this with the GUI Map opened, it seems that all of the high-level beasts are avoiding us, when ever we get closer, they would get further away.
Wait! They changed their movement!
Why are all of the high-level beasts starting to move closer?! What’s more they are all doing at the same time We are being surrounded!
The knights are all unaware of this and unprepared. It seems like the beasts were waiting for us to relax and lower our guards.
I looked at father who leaning against a tree, with his arms crossed. Our eyes suddenly met.
Father probably had noticed my sudden changed of expression and so he asked, “What’s wrong?”
What should I do? Should I tell father? But he would immediately become suspicious of me and I don’t even know if he would even believe me.
No, I must warn him, this involves the lives of all 40 knights!
After hesitating for a while, I finally decided and whisper to father. I only told him that we are being surrounded and they are all heading towards our direction.
Father squinted his eyes at me and asked, “How did you know?”
“Instincts?” Children has good instincts right!
“You really that this isn’t a game right?”
“No, I’m really not playing around. Trust me, there really are a lot of high-level beasts heading our way right now.” I desperately tried to convince father with a low voice.
“Is something wrong?” One of the knights noticed us, quickly asked. All of the other knights looked towards our direction.
Both me and father didn’t reply. I continued to look at father with a desperate look.
After a few seconds of silent, father uncrossed his arm and finally spoke, “Break is over. Everyone quickly gets into square formation!”
“Huh?” All of the knights became confused with the sudden order, but as a knight who was taught to obey the order of the Earl, they all quickly comply with the order and got into a square formation.
The knights all draw out their swords and raised their shields to form a barrier on all four directions. The knights who had spears were inside the barrier with me and father.
*** Narrator’s PV:
“Rek, do you detect any beasts heading our direction?” The Earl suddenly spoke up to ask Rek, who was the magician specialised in Wind magic.
Rek who already activated Detection Spell after Earl’s sudden order, replied, “N-No, there are no beasts nearby.”
Hearing that, the Earl turned to glance at Caine, but the only response he got was an determined expression.
“W-Wait! I’m detecting something. There is about 6, No! 8 No! The numbers are keep increasing and they are all heading our way!”
