The Exiled Count Acquired the Space Fortress of a Super Advanced Civilization - CH 21
On that day, Jack Orblad, the president of the Federation, one of the three major powers, was gathering the press for a big announcement.
As many as a thousand reporters crowded into the press conference room of the presidential office, and the conference was to be broadcast live to the capital system and recorded to the other systems.
“I don’t think it’s necessary to discuss the history of our Federation again.”
Olbrad began his talk that way.
“The Republic of Asyria took the lead in calling for the establishment of the Federation, and the nations of the Federation rallied together to oppose the Empire’s rampant aggression. It is no exaggeration to say that it is the destiny of our Federation to frustrate the ambitions of the Empire.”
The reporters were puzzled. What is the President going to start talking about?
I’m sure they didn’t gather all these reporters to give a history lesson.
“Now, once again, a plot has been exposed. The empire had been unofficially sending troops against the independent nations that had declared their peaceful neutrality.”
It is always the case that the President of the Federation takes the Empire at its word, and it usually ends with ‘I sincerely regret it.
“We have received confirmation that the Empire has already secretly conquered the Kingdom of Mars-Camino and several other countries. As a federal government that loves freedom and justice, I must say that this is truly regrettable.”
The reporters were caught off guard by the usual pattern.
“So, I’ve just made a momentous decision.”
The President trailed off.
Not the usual pattern. They all realized it immediately and waited for the President to speak.
“Tomorrow at noon Galactic Standard Time, I will exercise my presidential powers under Article 85 of the Federation Charter and declare war on the Empire and the nations under its de facto control. The official names of the countries to be targeted are as shown in the list I am about to distribute to you.”
There was a groan from the reporters.
In the 200 years since the formation of the Federation and the establishment of the Kingdom due to the internal strife of the Empire, humanity has not had a major war. There have been a few skirmishes, but never a declared state of war.
“This is a war of justice to liberate the star systems that have been deprived of their freedom and forced to be controlled by the Empire. All Federation forces will immediately assume a warfighting posture and begin maneuvers.”
There was even more excitement as the list of countries to declare war began to appear in the hands of the reporters. There were more than 100 countries on the list. This was because all the independent countries were listed.
At the same time, in the kingdom, King Kauros was gathering the main nobles and civil and military officials in the audience hall.
“Two hundred years have passed since the emperor’s throne was unjustly usurped. I believe that we should not overlook this situation any longer.”
Kauros spoke to the assembled officials.
The name “king” is based on the will of the first king to reclaim the usurped imperial throne and take his place as the only emperor.
For this reason, he does not claim the title of emperor, but is on a temporary throne.
“Therefore, I hereby declare that as of tomorrow noon, I will commence a war against the false Emperor Rexxar III in order to regain my position as the rightful ruler of the Empire.”
Most of those gathered in the audience room knew about this beforehand, but they created a stir worthy of the declaration ceremony.
“My son, Alex.”
“Yes!”
Called by the king, Dauphin Alex knelt before the king.
“The entire army is at your disposal. Assemble the fleet and get to work immediately.”
“Yes, sir.”
“Still, I must inform you. This war will be fought jointly with the Federation. From now on, the Federation will be our ally, albeit temporarily. Be mindful of that!”
Many of us couldn’t believe our ears.
This is new to me. Although not as close as the Empire, the Kingdom and the Federation are not on the best of terms. In the eyes of the Federation, the Empire and the Kingdom were like two peas in a pod.
What an alliance it is.
“That is all I have to say. I expect your loyalty.”
Kauros stepped back. The assembled officials hurriedly bowed their heads and sent for the king.
As Kauros returned to his room to rest, the Marquis of Al-Rad, the vizier, inquired about him.
“Marquis, how was everyone?”
“You seem surprised. An alliance with the Federation was previously thought to be unfeasible.”
Kauros nodded.
Under normal circumstances, such an alliance would never have been formed. If it were not for the fact that the Empire had acquired new ruins.
The information that the Kingdom had gotten from the Kingdom of Mars-Camino and the Empire included information that did not seem to indicate that the Empire was using the ruins.
There is no doubt that the one who has control of the ruins is the one who was the Count Duke of Vaier, but looking at the situation of the Count Vaier family and the subsequent situation of the Kingdom of Mars-Camino, there is a point where they no longer seem to be connected to the Empire.
But for the Kingdom and the Federation, what they needed was not the truth, but a pretext.
If two of the three major powers unite, they can defeat the other one. If two countries have an excuse to declare war on the empire together, then the enemy of my enemy can be my friend and we can form an alliance.
Kauros had deliberately passed on some of the information to the Federation in order to bring about this alliance. The diplomats under his command had done a really good job.
Those ruins.
According to the information Kauros had received, it was called the “Vara Skirv” fortress.
Although a good number of remains of the weapons themselves have been found, few of them are operational. Even if there were, only some of the functions were usable.
It is a fully operational weapon, capable of anti-ship combat. And it’s that huge, and it can warp.
The military says, “Just one of these will change the war.”
“I want it.”
“The fortress?”
“Yes, I do.”
“Your Majesty, I wonder if I might be of some assistance.”
“Can you do it?”
“I don’t know yet, but I have a few ideas. I think it would be worthwhile to start by gathering information to see which one is best.”
“I have no doubt of the Marquis’s ability. I’m counting on you.”
“Yes, sir.”
“The times they are a-changin’. No, we’re going to move it. We will.”
There was fire in Kauros’ eyes.
