The Extraordinary Ordinary - Chapter 20 Hyper Productivity
“So, my special ability is actually like that?” Bryce couldn’t help but have mixed feelings, after all, according to his limited knowledge this meant that his dream of being a famous ‘Extra’ would go down the drain if all he could do was provide more and more Exos
Even though he expected the lowest for himself from the very beginning, he couldn’t help but feel conflicted when it really came down to it, he managed to create a miracle and get such a rare yet impractical ability Just why couldn’t he have received a mind blowing super power instead?!
“Yes, having such a special awakened ability is considered a great talent in itself! Unlike what most people think, ‘Exos Generators’ are actually the most versatile awakened in the whole category, you can truly become whatever you want with the correct gear!” having noticed that Bryce seemed to be disappointed, Crow added on to Link’s explanation as to comfort him a bit.
“Gear?” Bryce felt a bit lost in the middle of all these distracting explanations
“It’s not the right time to discuss this, the summary is that your ability is actually very practical unlike what you believe, it’s just a bit expensive to use but you needn’t worry since you have already passed the examination, the Extra’s Academy will ensure you are at least at the level of your fellow students as long as you put enough effort!” Crow smiled as he filled Bryce’s mind with optimistic thoughts before returning to his chair once again.
“I understand.” Bryce was still somewhat perplexed, but he also knew that this wasn’t the right place to discuss this at, especially after he noticed Fred’s unpleasant look that was directed towards him.
After the small ruckus caused by the special students of Future High finally calmed down, the testing resumed as Krig got into the capsule
`~~~`~~~`~~~`
‘It’s the moment of truth’ Chrome thought as he sighed deep inside.
Thanks to the latency that Bryce has caused in his queue, the other queue were already finished with their tests, with only Chrome being left in this queue.
Him being the last one in the whole three batches was obviously not a good thing as it meant that all eyes were currently focused on him, just for being the only result left, so it naturally made Chrome a bit nervous even though he had already steeled his resolve
‘Whatever! Let’s just do it.’ Chrome got into the capsule immediately to finish the whole thing, he didn’t want to act the same way like Bryce didi and grab even more attention that might turn into discrimation later on.
As the capsule closed on him, Chrome could feel that something was dragging something out of his body, before sending it back several times stronger only to withdraw it a few seconds later
for visiting.
‘Is this how they test the capacity?’ Chrome wondered as he wasn’t sure about most stuff, he never learned how to control Exos or even tell if it moved, but that was the only viable explanation.
The capsule injected Exos into one’s body to see how much they could take, before withdrawing it again as the body wasn’t naturally going to accept the Exos, not to mention the fact that they weren’t going to waste Exos on testing as consumables instead of reusables.
Chrome was able to confirm this theory as he noted the change in his energy points by viewing the scroll in his mind, which gave changing numbers every second. Chrome found it a bit regretful that these energy points didn’t allow him to make a few more pieces of candy which seemed to be attributed to their volatile nature…
After going through this process three more times as the special vacuums did their jobs without any problem, Chrome saw a complete screen of red laser go through his body, which he already guessed that it was likely to be the method for testing emission.
Pshshsh
One forward scan and another backward one was all it took before the capsule was opened as Chrome got out of the capsule, feeling a bit more confident and less stressed, he already knew his numbers so there was nothing to be nervous about, he just had to shut up all those that would doubt him in the last test!
The numbers that appeared on the black screen
[ 12 l 0.59 ]
Didn’t bring any suspense at all.
‘Almost identical to the scroll’s indication’ Chrome nodded as he was able to authenticate another ability of the Self-Reliance Palace.
Although he had finally came to a stand that he would accept the existence of that ability of his after confirming the authenticity of several abilities of it, Chrome still wanted to make use of every chance to confirm the accuracy of the rest of them, and this Exos rating test was a great example of that.
“Woah your Exos ratings are really” Krig acted quite surprised as he looked at the screen being the first to comment
‘Here it comes’ Chrome simply turned a deaf ear as he already expected this type of reaction
“Trash! I thought you might have had great luck like Bryce here, but it seems like you are indeed the same trash we knew, hahaha,” Krig exclaimed as he couldn’t stop himself from laughing, he really thought too much into it
‘This trash is really out of the way, I was worried for nothing’ On the contrary, Fred didn’t throw any sarcastic remarks like Krig did, as he simply took satisfaction on Chrome’s fail as he only threw a look of disdain at him.
He also had the same thought process as Krig did after all, so Chrome’s failure to be the second lucky idiot was naturally the best news for him, he could finally forget about that puny obstacle that always stood in his way.
“Interesting” However, unlike the rest of observers reacted, either by just letting it be like most of the students did and feeling a bit disappointed like the teacher Link did, the aged examiner was already out of his chair as he looked at Chrome with interest.
“Unexpectedly after encountering a Generator, there is an Awakened with the ‘Hyper Productive’ trait, the examination is really, really interesting this year” the aged examiner mused as he emphasised his interest before snapping his finger as a similar screen started crawling from the ceiling once again…
