The Extraordinary Ordinary - Chapter 21 The Testing Chamber
[ 1. Pass 2. Pass ]
The screen holding the list of grades appeared once again, indicating that all members had passed, which was to be expected as the main average didn’t fall under 50 Capacity ratings, well that was except for two who had special grades…
No.27 had an Excellence mark instead of a pass, while No.30 had a strange result
[ 30. Semi-Fail + Bonus ]
“Eh?” Most of the students reacted with confusion as they saw the last grade, they were already wondering what the aged examinar meant by ‘Hyper Productivity’, so the strange grade only made things more confusing
“What is this ‘Hyper Productivity’ supposed to be?” Krig couldn’t stop himself from asking as curiosity got the best of him, this test was really full of twists and turns, were these bullied pair really supposed to shine or something?
‘The grade still has ‘fail’ in it so it shouldn’t make that much of a difference’ Fred, on the other hand, believed that according to logic, such low ratings won’t allow anyone to enroll, unless he was a special variant like ‘Physical Aspect’ Awakened, which Crome already proved that he wasn’t one of them.
‘I just have to wait till he also screws up in the Special Ability test and I can crush his revived ego to pieces!’ Fred snickered inside his mind as he thought about the satisfaction that he would receive from that future act, as his irritation about Chrome’s change slowly faded.
“Well, it isn’t a higher ranked ‘Hyper productivity’, but it should be at the low end medium rank, most of you probably didn’t notice due to how low his ratings are, don’t you think that the ratio between his Production and Capacity rating is a bit higher when compared to the rest of you?” the aged examiner replied as he explained the main point vaguely, waiting for someone to catch on
“You mean that” Jack was about to say his realization before he got interrupted by Link, “Yes! His Production rating is indeed high, if we use the normal formula for both rating’s growth, then it wouldn’t be surprising if he could produce Exos 20% faster when compared to his peers!”
“Exactly. However, this is only the case if his ratings showed abnormal growth due to his supposed awakening that we are going to test soon, which is why this doesn’t count as a pass neither does it count as a fail This student will naturally receive some bonus points as a compensation for counting this as a fail, which would allow him to obtain an Excellence grade in the next test as long as he performs better than the passing average,” the aged examiner finished explaining as he once again headed towards the metallic door at the end of the room as he reminded the confused crowd, “follow me.”
“Oh, and you. You can go back and rest alongside the other student, your awakened ability has already been revealed anyway,” the examiner stopped midway in the front of the metallic door as he gestured to Bryce to return before pushing the door open.
“I understand,” Bryce replied before he smiled towards Chrome, which seemed to be an awkward smile of cheering as he moved towards the opposite door.
The aged examiner’s process of things was almost identical, he didn’t do things overly flashy as he just transitioned the students from one test room to the other, while providing support at the side before revealing the end grade, he was pretty much the routine following kind of man.
for visiting.
It was actually thanks to his swift moves and explanation that the students weren’t really able to find it in them to think about Chrome’s grade as it seemed to be like a passable grade to them? They simply had no free thoughts to spare for others as they reached the main important test
The awakened ability test was the one with the highest requirements after all, not to mention that it was the real moment of truth for most of them as a few of them didn’t know their own abilities as they have awakened recently and sulimantly wanted to take the chance of this Examination to test them out, while most of the others who knew the core points of their abilities didn’t know how it would fare when compared with their peers
“This is what we are going to use for the last test,” after the whole group moved on to the next room, the aged examiner pointed at the center of the similarly metallic room as he added, “This is what we call the ‘Ability Testing Chamber’.”
The students all focused at the center as well, as they could see a complete cube made of glass situated there as it took over 60% of the metallic room’s space.
The only add-ons to the pure glass cube were a big black screen on of its sides, which seemed like one that displays information to outer and inner observers, and four targeted laser pointers at the upper corners of the glass cube, which were likely to be the components that made the cube deserve its name as the ‘Ability Testing Chamber’.
‘Another piece of Exo Tech’ Chrome could tell that these laser scanning machines and the one that he found in the capsule were likely to be Exos Tech machines as it only made sense that scanning an intangible thing such as Exos or Awakened abilities naturally required something of similar nature to gauge it
“You will just need to go in the chamber and get scanned, it’s ok if you don’t know what your ability is as well, as the scanning’s target is to tell you the nature of your awakened ability,” the aged examiner walked closer to the cube as he said that before pushing a part on the cube, only for it to unfold and reveal itself as the door to enter the cube.
“The nature of this type of glass and these scanners is quite special, so you don’t need to worry about the accuracy, you only have to get scanned before using or at least trying to use these abilities so that the chamber can measure the attributes of your ability that are worth noting, and naturally the ones that will play a great part on deciding your final grade,” the aged examiner added…
