“Hmmm” Chrome took a look at the scroll once more after he read what the floating quill has written as he noticed the changes
The number of Self-Reliance points has indeed risen to one, but there were also other changes that took place in the abilities part of the scroll
“How does this work?” Chrome asked as he wanted to get a general gist of the ‘Modification’ use of the scroll before he started thinking too deeply about it.
[ Other than the main use of the ‘Self Assessment & Modification Scroll’ displaying your status, abilities and their details, it can be used to modify these abilities to a certain limit according to your current level of ability, as indicated in its name, that is of course not done without limits as it consumes points as its main currency. ]
“So it can only improve to a certain limit? And what does this mean?” As Chrome confirmed what he knew till this moment, he started asking the more in-detail questions that he had in mind as he pointed at the ‘???” part in the scroll that was under [Basic Lightning].
[ Negative, the scroll’s modification abilities’ limits are unknown at the moment, but it only displays the ones that you can modify at your current overall ability, the reason for the ‘???’ part is also due to that, as you only have 1 SRP which is apparently too little for you to even know the cost of the modification of [Basic Lightning]. ]
“What about the modification of the [Basic Energy Emission]? Can you tell me to what degree would this ‘Basic Enhancement’ actually improve it?” getting his answers only made Chrome get more invested into his nerd mode, as he actually liked to get to the deepest of details about some stuff, just like he did with his testing on the candy machine
[ Negative, as the [Basic Energy Emission] is the base ability of all humans, the ‘Basic Enhancement’ for each one of them would differ. As such, the only way you can discover that is by trying it once. ]
“Alright then, how do I invest my SRP into the the [Basic Energy Emission]?” Chrome was always a man who believed that experimenting was the easiest way to get to understand something, so he didn’t plan on uselessly keeping this point of indeterminable value as he was more than willing to use it already.
[ There should be a small pen left inside the chest, you can use that to add the number of points you want to invest between the parentheses which have a plus and an empty space within. ]
“Oh” Chrome opened the box once more and actually found a small ink pen inside of it as he questioned, “Where do these stuff keep popping up from? and why is this so restricted by physical actions?” starting from using the machine to throwing the candy piece in the burning cup and finally having to modify his ability using an ink pen, these were all actions that required physical interactions from him.
[ The appearance of these tool, which you might believe is sourceless, is obviously your own ability. As for the physical interaction part of stuff, it’s mainly because you have yet to master your ability, which only had one branch opened just recently, you should be able to break through this restriction with time. ]
“I see.” Chrome nodded as he acknowledged the floating quill’s words, he didn’t even know how he got here, nor did he know if he has really left his house or if it was just his mind’s perception that was inside here, but as he got to know more about this place which was part of his ability, he could only get fascinated by the miraculous stuff that he experienced one after another
Taking the ink pen out before closing the chest once again, Chrome laid the scroll back on top of it as he added the number ‘1’ inside the parentheses.
The ink, that also appeared out of nowhere similarly to how the floating quill’s ink worked, only stood still for a few seconds before it blurred back to a blank as the whole [Basic Energy Emission] section blurred as a whole following that
Waiting for it to be fully clear once again, Chrome finally took a look at the result.

“Oh?” the result of the ‘Basic Enhancement’ seemed to be quite more satisfying than expected as Chrome himself was a bit caught up being surprised!
‘1 point of capacity increase, and 0.05 emission rate growth?!’
It was worth remembering once more that Chrome’s capacity would only increase by half a point after the passing of 365 days, yet just now, and using only 10 Exos points that were laying lazily in his body till today, he has managed to increase it by a whole point!
As for the growth of the emission rate, Chrome was unsure if it was actually good or not as he didn’t even know his emission rate till today, but he did understand that it was also something that grew at the rate of 0.05 points as capacity increased by 1 point.
‘Doing some quick math I can at least obtain one piece of candy per day which means that if the cost rate stayed static I could actually increase my capacity by 1 point per day!’
Chrome only got more fascinated as he did some simple calculations, if he compared the possible increase with his old normal increase, then he would find out that this method actually increased his capacity growth speed by 730 times!
‘If I rely on this I might be able to finally shed away this fake ‘Ordinary’ title of mine!’
While Chrome did obtain a superpower somehow, it simply meant nothing if you couldn’t actually use it to a high capacity, not to mention that a high Exos rate was required quite a lot for several reasons once one got into the world of ‘Extras’…
“Why is there a cooldown on the usage of ‘Basic Enhancement’? Does that limit stay the same or does it change?” keeping his excitement a bit down Chrome asked as he thought about the possible future. While he was only a starter at this point who could barely produce one piece of candy per day, if he was going to keep increasing his capacity, his emission rate would also grow with it, meaning that it wouldn’t take long before he could produce another candy per day, so would that mean that he would still have to only improve his [Bask Energy Emission] using 1 point per day?
[ The cooldown is placed so that your body would actually adapt to the changes administered by the Self-Reliance Palace, as for its specifics, while the cooldown will still exist, it would normally change as the ability itself reaches a higher rank of sorts, of course, along with that change would also come a change to the cost of the modification as well and not its cooldown timer alone. ]
‘In this case, I might be able to’
Chrome pondered deep inside as he remembered the words of the teacher that every student of their special class would be allowed to try joining the acceptance examination done by the Extra’s Academy. So, while still unsure, Chrome felt that he did stand a chance somehow, so maybe maybe he should give it a chance
“Alright, thanks for the helpful explanations that you have provided, magical quill? but how do I actually get out of here?”
[ There’s no need to thank me, Palace Master, I’m only doing my job as a part of your ability. As for getting out of here ]
