The Gatekeeper - Chapter 8 But I Can
“Gother, have you heard of the E Pluribus Unum?” The Emissary asks, his body glows at the mention of the name as the three dark holes stare at me.
“I haven’t heard of it.” I say not being able to stare at his wooded face. He claps his hand as he stands up from the chair.
“Alright then,” He says “Since you don’t know, I will be taking you to the Sanctum” His raises his right hand and lightly taps the air, suddenly a tiny black orb appears where he taped the air and the the space around the black orb starts to crack. The crack spreads as the black orb grows bigger covering the cracks then shrinking back to a point. After the black orb disappeared a sound of chains could be heard reverberating in the room, the sound lasted only for a few seconds before circular door way opened. On the other side of the door way was a grassy field of short green grass.
“Follow me now, time waits for no one.” The Emissary says as he flies into the grassy field, I quickly follow him in to the plane. As I’m entering the circular door way I feel as if I’m being squeezed and stretched at the same time, after the feeling passed I’m standing in the field I saw earlier through the door way. While standing there a cool breeze hits my face making me feel relaxed as it blows away my nauseousness.
“Where are we?” I ask as I breath in the cool air. Looking up I see the sun and large clouds that are slowly drifting in the direction of the wind.
“This is a fractured dimension,” A silvery voice sounds in my head “It is a part of space, where it has been damaged by powerful magical spells.” The voice continues.
“Did you hear that?” I look at the Emissary
“Why of course!” The Emissary laughs “The voice you are hearing is part of this fractured dimension, it is a construct that I created.” He tilts his head to me and looks down on me.
“Those questions you are thinking.” The Emissary says as he taps his hooded head “Will be answered later, when you are ready.”
“Huh?” How did he know.
“Now young man, no need to dwindle on those matters.” He says while laughing. “Now about the E Pluribus Unum, those are the few that can control…”
“What does it mean though.” I squeeze my hand into a fist.
“No need to be afraid boy.” The Emissary says coolly “Questions are welcomed, as for what you where asking. E Pluribus Unum translates to ‘out of many one’ in your human tongue. This concept stands because of the few who can harness the power of Negentropy.”
“Whats that?” I quickly ask soaking up all the knowledge I can.
“Negentropy is the opposite of entropy, meaning that you use magic power to bring forth order and organization.” His hushed voice sounded ” As you may have guessed you are one of the E Pluribus Unum.”
