The Genius’ First Love - Chapter 621
Dannah mourned for Scar for a few minutes before she wiped her tears away. Darryl had informed everyone that her sister was awake and they already anticipated the Lagdameo’s arrival.
“Are you feeling fine now?” Darryl asked as soon as he put the phone down.
Dannah nodded and for a moment she skimmed at Darryl as if wanting to ask something. This didn’t go unnoticed in Darryl’s eyes and so he immediately asked.
“What’s wrong?”
“Dee….” Dannah was hesitating for a moment but she pushed through it anyway. “What’s gonna happen now?”
Her question silenced Darryl for a moment. Ever since he woke up he thought of nothing but Dannah and he never really had time to think of anything else. The tragedy in Puente De Amor had changed everything completely and right then all Darryl could answer Dannah was a heavy sigh.
“I know you wanted your family back,” Dannah started, “And you’ll do anything to have them back. Actually you had already done everything to appease your wife and now, to save your children. You already did everything you could, and yet…”
“I still lost them,” Darryl finished his sister’s words painfully. Darryl understood that what happened in the bridge and Dian ending as the mastermind of all their sufferings had made a huge gap between all their relationsh.i.p.s. However he can’t just give up on his family like that, he had to fight for them unendingly and he didn’t care whether he had to sacrifice his life again just to keep them.
“You’ll do anything for them right?” Dannah asked although she knew the answer very well to it.
“Of course..” Darryl answered without hesitation. “I would everything just to make sure they are okay,”
“Then what if what they needed is their freedom,” Dannah’s question bore some hurtful truth that even Darryl himself wasn’t ready to answer. “What if the best thing you could ever do for them was to let them go?”
Dannah had long wanted to ask his brother such a question. She had long seen his suffering and all his efforts to get his wife back and yet the more he pushed things his way, the more they fell apart.
All these years, Darryl did nothing but pursue his family. He thought of them more than he thought of himself and Dannah thought it wasn’t good anymore. Darryl had wasted many years of his life thinking about his wife and children that he had lost all his chance to be happy. Right then, Dannah thought Xhemin was right, Darryl and her cannot live together anymore especially now that the once Dugmoch’s little miss was right afterall—that it was them—L’Empire who was really after her and her children.
Darryl thought of Dannah’s words thoroughly and with it, pain crushed his heart. Dannah had a point and it was something he had never thought of before. Was he the one selfish afterall?
He did think it was only right for Xhemin and him to get back together and raise their family as they once wanted it—no. As he wanted it. Xhemin had never had plans of having a future with him, she made it clear when she left the island. However he was stubborn to ever let her go and so he chased her and forced her into marriage. Xhemin didn’t protest any of his advances because he trusted him and yet he failed her. He can’t blame her anymore if she didn’t want to take anymore chances, afterall, she once gave him everything—her love, her body and future but L’Empire ruined it all.
“Do you really think it would be best if I just let them go?” Darryl asked and his pain became more unbearable than before. He wasn’t willing then, never will he be, but if it is what his family needed, then perhaps he should make this sacrifice once and for all.
“Xhemin and the children were okay without us,” Dannah helplessly pointed out. “They were alright before they came back here and the only reason they had too come was because it was needed, not because they needed us,”
“And Dee….” Dannah held Darryl’s hand then, tighter than she ever could, “I want you to be happy and not waste your life chasing a dream that cannot be realized anymore. Perhaps it’s time you think of yourself and perhaps, find another dream,”
“I don’t know how to live a life without them,Dannah,” Darryl for the first time shed a tear in front of his sister and Dannah’s heart broke a million times upon seeing it. This is hard for Darryl and yet she thought right then it was the best for all of them.
“Then start with me,” Dannah told him. They were both crying, they were both hurt, both in pain and probably lost, “I too do not know where to start after this. Waking up now with nothing, without Scar and without the child I bore, I just wished I have never woken up. And yet right now when I opened my eyes and saw you, I decided I’m going to start living for you and perhaps you could do the same for yourself. Find inspiration in the fact that I lived and that I needed you. Perhaps by that we can start with our lives all over again,”
“We only have each other now,” Dannah added, each tears came with another pain and yet she was comforted by the fact that he was sharing it with his brother, “I guess that’s enough,”
Darryl closed his eyes. His c.h.e.s.t was tight and his heart was aching. Xhemin was his greatest dream and yet perhaps she too was to become a dream of his past. Between them, a huge pile of hurt stood in between and crossing the line was impossible without breaking each other and so perhaps, as his sister told him, it was time to let go. To say goodbye to the love he knew and kept for many years. It was a beautiful love that brought forth beautiful fruits but it was a forbidden love after all. It was poisonous from the very beginning and although they tried so hard to get through the sting, the poison remained and rotted them. Now, they have to let go or they’ll end up ruined for good.
“I’ll be here. You’ll always have me,” Dannah promised and Darryl held on to that.
Darryl cried for a few minutes more but even when his hurt didn’t subside, he chose to wipe his tears off, looked at his sister lovingly and kissed her on the head. “We only have each other now. I’m okay with that,”
At the end, they smiled at each other bitterly. The world had betrayed and ripped them both of the right to be with the person they treasured the most and yet, they found strength on each other and decided that perhaps they were brought back in this world not to be with the persons they wanted to be with, but to fix things according to what it should be.
Darryl and Dannah then decide they will be the start of many changes in L’Empire and probably in the lives of the family they still have.
It’s not too late after all to dream new dreams, start anew and move forward.
