The Genius’ First Love - Chapter 626
Dannah could not understand the things that she was hearing. Even the presence of Edmund Huang then at the asylum was questionable. Why was he even here in the first place and it looked like he was taking care of Dian’s predicaments as if he was her family.
“Edmund I do not understand,” Dannah helplessly answered. ” Why are you even here? Everyone thought that after what Dian did and you being thrown out of the Huang’s for good for having a criminal and insane fiance, you flew in another country for good and probably started over somewhere. But here you are, in this assylum, on an island in the middle of nowhere and now you are asking me for the custody of the child whom you knew very well was not yours and was a product of my sister’s betrayal to you. These things… it’s very complicated Edmund, I don’t think I can allow such req—”
“Please hear me out third miss,” Edmund Huang was begging her so suddenly when the word refusal seemed to have slipped from her mouth. “I know these things look complicated but it really isn’t,”
He paused for a moment, as if he was reminiscing about something before he flushed a bitter smile and started his explanation, “Believe it or not Dannah, there was a time in my life when I wanted to change for good and to set things right. I know I started bad and even victimized your sister with my own foolish self but that was me before, when I was young and foolish and it was unfortunate I learned all my mistakes too late already—when my family had lost their love for me and when your sister turned into a monster already”
“However, even when she became the most vicious person, I sincerely love her, third miss. I already loved her the moment I set my eyes on her but my proud young self who knew nothing about life and love, didn’t know how to love Dian right and so I ended up ruining her. It was a struggle to see Dian turning into something…but I was so powerless already that I could do nothing. However I did think her viciousness was directed only to me, I never thought that she ended up ruining other people’s lives too. And it’s a shame to know, I was one of the person who drove her mad and turn her into the monster she become,”
“My apologies are late and are useless right now,” Edmund admitted and for the first time, Dannah grew an ounce of respect to the previous Huang’s young master who was confessing he was a changed man. “But know that I have been paying for all the sins I’ve done by not being able to sleep well every night for the last few years. I had lost everything already and my life simply isn’t worth of anything anymore,”
“Now I’m just no one but Edmund Long,” he said, but for some reasons his bitter smile turned genuine and some warmth flooded Dannah’s heart as if he indeed was telling the truth, “But even when I am crushed down to a lowly commoner, I still cannot go on and escape my misdeeds. I want to pay for my sins by doing things right. Dian is my fiancee and so I will be responsible for her no matter what and this child right here was the only thing that’s left of her. I wanted to keep it and give her the love I was not able to give Dian. I plan for be his father and I promise you third miss, even when I’m just a poor man right now, I’ll do all that I can to give her a good life,”
Edmund’s explanation made Dannah stare at him for looking for any sign of lies but she couldn’t find anything. It seemed that the foolish previous young master of the Huangs did love her sister and wanted to pay for his sins for being a martyr to their relationship, even when whatever was with them was just made for business advances.
“Edmund, my sister is sick. I heard the chances of her getting better were slim and besides, if she ever gets healed, she’ll be sent right away to prison,” Dannah made things clear to him, in case he somehow forgot Dian’s situation, “So whatever you hoped for, it simply won’t happen. You and Dian can never have a good ending,”
“I know the third miss,” Edmund said without faltering. Deep inside him, all he wanted was to care for Dian as the world turned their back at her. He thoroughly felt the need for him to pay for his sins and he was going to do that by taking care of Dian without expecting anything. “I’m not demanding nor dreaming for any chances that Dian and I have hope. Besides I am very aware that your sister had no ounce of feeling for me, however I wanted to show her somehow, even though it’s already too late that I care for her and that I am remorseful of what I did to her. I owe her a lot and so I decided to care and love her daughter too as my own,”
Danna felt in her heart that Edmund was indeed remorseful and besides there was no harm in giving him a chance after all. He after all was right, nobody knew of Dian’s infidelity instead of a few whom she surely knew would not bother to tell. People will always think it was Edmund Huang’s daughter as he was Dian’s legitimate fiancee.
Also, Edmund knew very well that she and her uncle Franco would be looking up close to Dian’s child and that the consequences of him doing something wrong to Dian’s daughter will be far worse than him being abandoned by the Huangs. Apart from that, a big part of Dannah’s heart was still distrustful of how the Lagdameo treated their children and she, being a Lagdameo herself, didn’t want to let any child grow up under them at the moment. She doesn’t want any child to experience the ruthlessness of L’Empire that ruined all their future and gave them too many heartbreaks. It would be better for the child to grow up away from the Lagdameo’s and away from all the cruelty in the elite world. Perhaps, in Edmund Huang’s care, she’ll have a better life, no matter how simple it will be.
