The Genius’ First Love - Chapter 628
When Edmund opened the door, what welcomed Dannah was a massive collection of paintings. She looked around and recognized that the paintings were all nothing but Scar’s face, portratied in clear sketch and in abstract. For a moment Dannah was filled with thorough emotions, surrounded with the face of the man whom she made a sacred pact. It was a beautiful thing to be where at, specially in that moment of complications and sorrow. She immersed herself fully at the view for a few minutes, mesmerized by all of it, until her eyes reached the far end of the room, where a woman in white gown sat idly on one corner, doing nothing but stare in an empty space.
“This is all her works,” Edmund cited. “When she was brought here she was very hostile but the doctors were able to calm her down by giving her paints and brushes. They said it was her avenue to release all her feelings tied deep down in her unconsciousness,”
Dannah’s eyes skimmed at Dian for minutes and realized she was surrounded by scars and she had some bandaged in the left side of her face and on her feet. She was a few meters away from her, as the nurse thoroughly instructed that they should not come closer as Dian wasn’t very welcoming with new faces. It was only Edmund she recognized but even him at times were subject to some of her cruelest episodes.
“Why is she with scars and wounds?” Dian asked, very devastated on how her sister’s skin was ruined. She looked peaceful then but the scars around her body made her feel a thorough pity.
“Before she came here, she was hostile. She keeps wounding herself and those who come closer,” Edmund explained. “Right now, she’s okay most of the time. She’s either like that or obsessively turns into painting. However, she still had episodes sometimes and hurt herself that’s why we only have well trained personnel attend on her,”
“She hurts herself?” Dian felt terrible at the thought.
“Yes miss,” It was the nurse who answered this time. “Truth was she did intentionally hurt herself because she was obsessed with the scars. The patient’s skin was the type that when she got a scar, it goes away after some time and so when her scars leave her skin, she intentionally wounds herself to get another scar. We don’t really know what triggered her to be obsessed with the scars but the doctors were trying to fix it, hopefully the painting treatment can help as her episodes lessen when she started painting,”
“I see,” Dian answered. It seemed that no one had really figured out yet why Dian was obsessed with scars, it probably reminded her of the love of her life—her deepest regret and frustration. It was obvious her sister created a world on her own by the memory of Scar and even though Dannah felt complicated at the thought especially that the ever sweet Dian she knew had turned into something very pitiful, she was helpless at the moment. No one can ever help Dian but herself. She just wished that despite her situation, Scarlet could grow up brilliant as she once was, except for her twisted character.
“I tried to ask her one time why she wanted to have many scars,” The nurse confessed. “She said she wanted to have ‘scar’ all over her. Poor woman,”
When the nurse said that, Dannah was reminded of the curse she had uttered toward her sister at the bridge. ‘May the demons that haunted him haunt you too!’. She clearly told her that and right then she knew but Dian’s case wasn’t the same. Scar was hunted by his conscience for killing one of the Lagdameo heirs, while Dian right then, was haunted not by a demon but by a beautiful memory of the man who gave her all his heart but she killed at the end, for nothing.
Dian and Scar’s love was a tragedy. It started out of wrong intentions and it ended in a disaster caused by mistrust, jealousy and greed. She just wished that when Scarlet knew of these things, she’ll not dwell on the part that it was a hellish relationship but rather on the fact that it was a beautiful and well treasured love, at least on her father’s part. Scar after all loved Dian and swore to her a beautiful future, and his baby—Scarlet was the perfection of his promise.
Thinking of it all, Dannah smiled at the thought that even after his death, Scar fulfilled all his promises. He swore to be with Dannah forever and so he gave her his heart that she will always beat and give her life until her last breath. He also promised Dian a beautiful future and thus he left her his daughter, the only beautiful thing in her sister’s unclear future.
Dannah stayed for a few minutes, staring helplessly at Dian and when her heart had enough, she whispered forgiveness in the wind. She needed that, she needed to close the chapter of her life where Dian was with it and it can only be done with forgiveness. Hopefully they call all move on and Scar can rest in peace.
“Thank you for the trust,” Edmund said as he bid her farewell. He escorted the third miss until the airport after they left the asylum. Although Dannah had seen her sister, the nurse forbade them to come closer and so there was really nothing they could do but stare at her. However, he was hopeful then that Dannah had found peace with her recent visit as according to Franco, she was one of the persons whom Dian had great faults with. “Farewell,” he added as he sent her off.
“Until next time Edmund Long,” Dannah was at the foot of her plane, standing tall and out of courtesy, bowing at the previous young master as if he still had such a title. She recognized the fact that this will not be the last time she will ever see the man because of Scarlet. She meant to keep a close watch as she wanted Scar’s daughter to grow up well and secure. Hopefully this small town in the middle of nowhere can cater her young mind and consciousness.
After the goodbyes, Dannah left that small town, with a heart that felt less heavy than it was when she came.
