The Genius’ First Love - Chapter 631
When she heard him, all the words Xhemin wanted to say got stuck in the middle of her throat. Her world fell apart that moment, a world she sure purposely hid that only she knew as standing. For a few months, she hoped that somehow that world will be rebuilt, that their love will be rebuilt but hearing divorce come out of Darryl’s lips, she knew it was so impossible to fix it again. They were long gone. It was foolish of her to think somehow they had redemption when the truth was that there was none and the tragedy of Puente De Amor was their breaking point.
Even Darryl himself felt miserable the moment he let the words out. He had practiced and prepared himself for many months to finally grant her the freedom she fervently demanded of him and yet nothing can seem to prepare him for such a break up. It was far heavier than him losing life, because as far as he knew, she was the life he breathed in.
Both Xhemin and Darryl were not able to speak for a few minutes. They just stood there, feeling all the hurt, s.u.c.k.i.n.g all pain, hoping somehow it would end finally but they both knew it was somehow impossible to repair their broken hearts. It will forever pain them both, however they too both acknowledge it was the payment they had to give fate for willingly taking risk of taking a forbidden love.
“Milady,” Darryl saw that even Xhemin herself wasn’t prepared for this and before they could change their minds and became greedy again, he let it all loose. It was the time and he had to leave immediately before he could hurt her again. “My love for you was far greater than you ever knew and I’m doing this not because my love had changed. It will never be and I will always forever hold you here,” he said pointing to his heart. “But I was a fool to not realize my unchanging love was already a burden to you. I wish I could have seen it sooner and yet here we are, it took me almost my death for me to realize our love can never be and if I continually hold on to you, you’ll surely break apart,”
Xhemin’s heart went numb upon hearing his regrets. Her memory then took her back to the time she was left to choose whether to continually pursue her love for Darryl or to protect the family she had left. She chose the latter but it would be a lie if she tells it was an easy choice. Not choosing Darryl was a difficult choice and that even until she was haunted by its ghost—the ghost of the love she gave up so she could protect Ziggy, Ang, Willow, Wolfe and all that she had left. Seeing Darryl succ.u.mb to that same kind of misery and being hunted by that same ghost, it made her more miserable than she ever was. She cried in an instant, feeling sorry for the Lagdameo heir, feeling sorry for herself and feeling sorry for the love they both held dear but had to let go.
“Do not cry milady,” Darryl touched her cheeks to wipe her tears off. “I was such a greedy person I didn’t realize your pain until now. My love whom I thought was enough to hold us both, was the same love that was hurting you, all this time.”
When Dannah and Darryl had a heartfelt conversation in the hospital, the Lagdameo heir took all her sister’s words seriously. He dwelled on it for months until he was able to see the downside of his infinite love for the previous Dugmoch’s little miss. He thought that because Xhemin and him were in love, they have all the right to be together but taking a closer look he was able to see that his family, his status as the Lagdameo heir and their different lifestyle was the main reason why Xhemin suffered. She lost her family in the process and was pushed to the end of her limits.
Previously, he didn’t want to accept the sickening truth that it was him who brought forth tragedy into her and so he chased her desperately even when she clearly told him she didn’t want him anymore. However, when Dian emerged as the culprit and the one who cause Xhemin’s ultimate heartbreak—losing Winter—only did Darryl realized her stand was right. His love for her was the reason why she lost everything and as if her suffering weren’t enough, he continually chased her and gave her more heartbreaks and brought forth more tragedies in her life. This time around, he almost caused the death of what’s left of their love—their two children, Willow and Wolfe.
With all this realization, Darryl had seen that indeed their love was already an impossible thing. It was wrong for so many reasons and pursuing it further will only cause more downfall. He had to let her go. That was the only thing he could do for her, to finally be free of him and move on. It was the best not only for him and her, it was the best for everyone.
“Goodbye my love,” Darryl knew he couldn’t stay anymore. He had to go as one moment more beside her will surely make his determination fall and he was afraid that by then, he no longer had the strength to let her go. “Take L’Empire as a token of my love but if you don’t want it, take it for my children. Its the the only thing I have now, that’s the only thing I can give them aside from my everlasting love,”
Xhemin swallowed all the pain, not wanting to let Darryl see it. She knew he was already miserable and seeing that she was deeply hurt again would only make him feel devastated.
Darryl gave Xhemin one final kiss on his head before he left completely out of her life. Seeing the door closed, Xhemin broke down and fell on her feet. It was such a shame for her to cry at this time when she was the one who demanded the divorce. She had long decided on it and had already mourned for their love a long time ago and yet, even when she had already made a choice by then, it still hurt.
