The Genius’ First Love - Chapter 637
The party continued to unfold and in the midst of all the talking and fun, Darryl felt an utter satisfaction. He smiled and looked around. He first turned to his family, his mother in particular who was happily conversing with Wolfe and Willow with sincere laughter and amus.e.m.e.nt. The children obviously gave her an immeasurable amount of joy.
Then his eyes turned to Wolfe, his boy who for the first time vibrated with radiant energy as if he wasn’t sick at all. Emma, Xhemin’s head researcher, had told him he was doing fine these days and that they had figured out a way for the child to not undergo anymore bone marrow transplants. Therefore, they won’t need to keep harvesting any from him.
Next he eyed Willow who as usual was bossing around. Not able to get most of Madam Diana’s attention since she was very fixated at Wolfe, she turned and demanded it on Don Samuelle who immediately carried the girl as if she was still a little baby.
Seeing the two children very comfortable with his family, Darryl knew his job was finished. There was a part of him that wanted to go and indulge with his children but he thought it was better that he didn’t. Wolfe and Willow grew up without needing him and he intends to keep that way.
It would be better for them to remember him as President D rather than their Appa, whom they never knew their whole life. They had all that they needed right then and although he very much wanted them, he didn’t wanna cause a longing in their heart for someone who they do not need.
Lastly, Darryl turned to Xhemin and saw her conversing with a few of their important guests. Although she looked entirely different now—a grown woman with all grace and confidence—he could still see the previous Dugmoch’s little miss in her. The girl he thought was cheating in conference, the annoying stupid girl in the canteen whom he kissed and the girl who stirred so many troubles for him successively in just span of hours upon their meeting and lastly, the girl who made his heart beat just in first glance and up until today.
Looking back, he somehow didn’t expect they’d come at this point at the verge of divoce ready to let each other go because as far as he could remember, they had once loved each other too much and hoped for a happy peaceful life together which fate didn’t give them. However, no matter how things ended up between them, if given a chance to re-live his life, he still wanted to meet her even if it meant more heartbreaks for him.
“It’s time,” Darryl whispered and sighs. He looked around for one last time, savouring the sight of the grand hall where every person that had big significance in his life gathered around and celebrated peacefully. It was a rare sight and probably the most satisfying scene for him. Darryl then turned around and headed for the exit quietly.
In a moment, the door was shut behind him and the sound of the party’s live music faded through the closed door. Darryl walked, hands in his pockets and eyes lingering around the interior of the L’Empire Corporate Center. He chose to go with the stairs rather than the elevator as right then he wanted to take his time but before his foot could make a step down, the door behind him opened.
“Appa!” Two little children came running and immediately, his two long legs were caught with two tiny hands. Wolfe and Willow were clinging on him, two heads looking up.
“Hey,” Darryl immediately squeezed himself out of their arms and kneeled on his feet to level their eyes.
“Appa carry me,” As soon as it was within her reach, Willow clung once more to Darryl, this time in his neck, not wanting to let go. Helpless, Darryl held onto her, stood and carried the girl to a nearby bench sitting nearby the hallway while holding Wolfe in his other hand.
Darryl sat in the middle and he positioned Willow so sit on his l.a.p while Wolfe sat beside him.
“Appa are you leaving?”- Wolfe
“Without a goodbye?”- Willow
“Where are you going?-Both
The children flooded with questions he only answered with a smile until they stopped, frustrated that Darryl wasn’t giving them the answers they so demanded. They both sense that something was wrong and that Darryl was about to leave, for good. With that, Willow’s eyes formed tears.
“Willow my little lady,” Darryl spoke for the first time and gently c.a.r.e.s.sed Willow’s caramel hair. “It’s not bad to be headstrong but remember to be always polite and if there comes a time that things get rough you can cry and nag a bit of it but do not allow it to get in to you. Above all, always considers other people’s feelings before doing anything outrageous,”
“Yes Appa,” She nodded, trying to hold off her tears.
“Wolfe my man,” Darryl then turned to the other child who was quietly sitting beside him. “Do not ever let anything ever withhold you, not even sickness and remember that you are the man in this family, it’s always your duty to protect your mother and your sister,”
Wolfe didn’t say a word and just nod obediently. The two children instead of crying and asking insistently choose to be quiet then while they clung to Darryl as they can. Darryl also took his time to be still and allowed his warmth to comfort his kids. They knew they were going different ways and probably because Darryl was their father, not much of things needed to be said. They just accepted his need to leave and respected it as if they understood everything.
After a few minutes, Darryl gave each child a kiss on the head and stood. As he did, he saw Xhemin at the corner quietly watching as he and his kids said their silent farewells. She had been there for a while and chose not to disturb their meaningful conversation.
