The God Of Beasts - Chapter 2
“If you know what’s good for you, stop right there and move away from that elixir. Otherwise, you’ll lose the hand you hold your tools with.”
Ji Yan looked behind him to find an ugly but well-built 16 year old teenager standing there, on the other side of the stream. His clothes were far better than the ones the average villagers wore, and he had a menacing expression on his face.
Wen Fu. The second young master of the Wen clan, and the younger brother of the clan’s future leader Wen Feng.
“Young master Fu! What are you doing around these parts of the forest?” Ji Yan attempted to sidetrack him, while slowly standing in front of the elixir fruit, so that he could block Wen Fu’s line of sight.
“Never mind what I’m doing here. The main question is, what are YOU doing here, harvesting a property of the Wen clan without our permission?” Clearly, Wen Fu had already seen the elixir fruit and now eyeing it greedily.
“A property of the Wen clan? How can an wild elixir fruit that’s growing deep inside the Desolate forest be a property of the Wen clan? And this is not even considering the situation that I saw it first yesterday, and that is why I returned to harvest it today. How can the Wen clan possibly claim any sort of ownership to this elixir fruit?” Ji Yan burst out in single breath, and was surprised instantly. He never realized that he held so much contempt for the Wen clan in his mind. Clearly, the events of the past few years had formed a negative image of them in his mind.
Wen Fu was flabbergasted. He had never imagined a poor, peasant kid would speak to him in such a manner.
“Audacious lad! You dare talk back to me in such a manner! Lets see if you can keep your tongue after I return and report today’s incident to my father. Maybe he’ll take your land away, even though its just a matter of time of your father forfeiting the loan. Then your family would have to live in the Desolate forest, because honestly, no other village would let poor haggard fellows like you in. You would just end up bringing bad luck to them”.
Ji Yan’s eyes became cold. Even Wen Fu, who was still standing at the other bank of the stream, felt a shiver run through his spine. He could not believe that a mere kid could possess such a glint in his eyes.
Ji Yan didn’t waste his time anymore. He turned around and started harvesting the elixir fruit as quickly as possible. He used his hand trowel and started scooping up the soil around the roots of the fruit so as not to damage it in any way.
“If you want this elixir fruit, you’ll have to go through me. There is no way I’m going to give this up just because the second young master of the Wen clan says so,”he swore to himself while harvesting.
When Wen Fu saw this, he was enraged. He was the second young master of the Wen clan. He had never come across any people who would not listen to his commands. How dare this little punk give him no face at all? He started crossing the stream immediately, in order to reach the fruit before it was scooped up by Ji Yan.
“Courting death! Just you wait! When I get my hands on you, I’ll cut off your hands personally!” Wen Fu shouted out furiously, in the hopes to create some sort of hesitation in Ji Yan’s mind, but when he saw the latter just increase his pace even more, he felt like vomiting blood.
By now, Ji Yan had finished harvesting the elixir fruit. He hurriedly scooped it up in hid hands, placed it gently inside his bag, packed up his tools and wore his slippers. Then, he did something that Wen Fu deemed unimaginable. He swiftly ran deep into the forest, towards the Desolate Peaks.
“Is that guy crazy in his head, or does he have a death-wish?” Wen Fu furiously thought, and gave chase to him. No way in the world was he losing that elixir fruit to that peasant kid. It was simply too important to him. He, unlike Wen Feng who was at the seventh stage of body tempering, was just starting out in his cultivation, and he needed an elixir to breakthrough to the second stage.
“If you value your life, just hand the elixir fruit over to me! You still have time! I will allow you to keep your life. Otherwise don’t blame this grandpa for being vicious!” Wen Fu shouted savagely.
“I’d rather keep this elixir fruit, so fuck off and find your own elixir,” came the retort from Ji Yan before he vanished from Wen Fu’s sight.
Ji Yan kept running hard, without even stopping to think for a moment. He knew that his actions today would have deep implications on the future of his family. They might even be forced to leave their home. That was effectively a death sentence for his family, in a poor village like Shidian village.
But he couldn’t bring himself to stop and surrender the elixir fruit meekly to Wen Fu. Firstly, he knew that the Wen clan were a vicious bunch of people, and that included Wen Fu. Whatever promises he might have made about sparing Ji Yan’s life, were lures to create hesitation in his mind. As soon as he managed to get his hands on the elixir fruit, all his promises would become void. Just like any normal 14 year old, Ji Yan was scared to die. Secondly, he had watched his father work his bones off for the last few years, and still getting insulted and beaten for failing to pay the yearly taxes. Even his mother and little sister had been subjected to lecherous gazes from the thugs of Wen clan, whenever they encroached on to the Ji household to demand money and threaten Ji Yuan. This had resulted in Ji Yan hating the Wen clan to the core, and he simply refused to give up the elixir fruit, that he had so painstakingly found and harvested, just out for free like some sort of charity just because they were the overseers of Shidian village. He felt he would rather eat the elixir fruit himself, than be cheated out of a compensation for his efforts. So, he continued running.
As Wen Fu watched Ji Yan vanish from his line of sight, his eyes had a cold glint in them.
“Good brat! Let’s see if you can outrun me and save your elixir fruit, before I catch you and tear you to pieces.”
Will Ji Yan be able to outrun Wen Fu, and keep the elixir fruit for himself? Stay tuned for more.
