The Goddess and the Ugly Duckling - Chapter 1
It was break time for the first year senior high school students of class three, and everyone was busy happily playing around and making a ruckus, well… everyone except for Yu Xiaoya, who sat all the way back in the last row. Yu Xiaoya had no other person sitting beside her, so she simply say there alone, drawing on her sheet of paper in silence.
Yu Xiaoya also didn’t want to stay with the teacher, but she got the feeling that so long as the number of people were uneven, she would be the odd man out. What was she going to do for the entire camp, hang about on her own?
Yu Xiaoya hung her head low, her eyes feeling a bit teary.
On the way, bus gradually made it’s way into the mountains, Yu Xiaoya during this time was staring at the snowy-white that surrounding them through the windows, the scene making it seem as though she had entered a kingdom of pure white. Although her mood was currently still a bit on the downside, it was still the best she’d felt in the past couple of days.
Since her dad’s car had broken down, he stopped a taxi to take him and her mother back home. Yu Xiaoya had a chance to look around the bus after they left, vacantly checking out the environment around her. It was a bus that seated thirty, and apart from the driver, there were two other teachers.
After hearing this, Yu Xiaoya lost all hope. In order to continue their studies, her parents had held off on dating and marriage. Her mother hadn’t even met her father until she was twenty-eight, and after getting married, they had her soon after.
Yu Xiaoya
Thus, Yu Xiaoya thought: My acne won’t go away until I’m twenty eight? I don’t think I can live until then.
She had just turned sixteen this year, so now she stood at one hundred and sixty-five centimetres in height. In a small town located in the southern part of the country, such a height was already considered rather tall for a girl. After she making it to high school, she sat in the very last row inside the classroom, and due to the total students in the class being odd, she was the unlucky person who was stuck without a desk mate.
The semester quickly came to an end. So when Yu Xiaoya returned home on that day, she brought along a dreadfully disappointing report card with her. Results that may have been due to her rarely ever speaking up, or perhaps it was because of the manhua she kept hidden in her desk drawer had been found. Anyhow, her dad immediately pulled out the sole of his shoe, slapping it against Yu Xiaoya’s face as he yelled, “Do you think we’re raising a daughter for kicks! We’re giving our everything to raise you, yet you…”
At dinner that night, both her parents said, “Xiaoyu, we bought a new house, but even though it’s a bit far from your high school, you will be able to have a sun facing room of your own. Dad and mum will like to know if it’s okay for you to go to the school’s winter camp this year, since the two of us were planning to go there during the winter holidays to fix it up?”

After having read that day’s most recent update, Yu Xiaoya lay wrapped in her blanket. She never wanted to have that many handsome guys chase her, all she wished for was one. Even if that person wasn’t pretty or warm, as long as they were willing to stay by her side, to talk with her everyday, be with her at school, and play games with her, she would love them—love them a whole lot.
Thus, Yu Xiaoya thought: My acne won’t go away until I’m twenty eight? I don’t think I can live until then.
Whipping her head up abruptly, Yu Xiaoya went looking for her roommate, soon noticing the teacher handing a pair of keys to a pretty girl sporting a faux-hawk.
What made thing worse, was the fact that even after entering high school for an entire term, she had yet to have made any friends.
Yu Xiaoya simply continued drawing and watching anime. Recently, she was really into shoujo-themed works, the stories within them thoroughly satisfying her fantasy’s. The warm smiling childhood friend, the gentle and dashing senior, the insanely cool school heart-throb, all those awesome guys, towards the female lead—to this average run of the mill girl—would shower her in kindness and offer her their undying love and loyalty.
Is that?
The author has something to say: I started a new work ~sprinkles flowers~ It’s a school-life lily-themed one too. It’s not a long story, about 100,000 characters. So if you like it, I hope you little angels will eagerly follow every update~ It will be updated everyday~ *rolls cutely* Follow and Comment

Yu Xiaoya didn’t want to disappoint her parents in this regard though, and was well aware they were long disappointed in her studies. From since she was little until now, her last place status, seemed to make them feel the regret of one’s child had failing to live up to one’s expectations. Yu Xiaoya was also aware of her parents were highly educated status, hence their one and only daughter’s troubles with her studies was a bit hard to grasp, thus she hoped to let them worry a bit less in other aspects.
Yu Xiaoya hung her head low, her eyes feeling a bit teary.
“Lu Xiaobei, Yu Xiaoya, you two will be on the first room on the second floor of the building on the left.”
Yu Xiaoya cried miserably, she cried until she was out of breath, as afterwards her parents had a fight at home. Her father blamed her mother, saying her spoiling Yu Xiaoya too much was to blame. But then her mother retorted that he was the one who spoiled her, and he did so more than she ever had!
Whipping her head up abruptly, Yu Xiaoya went looking for her roommate, soon noticing the teacher handing a pair of keys to a pretty girl sporting a faux-hawk.
But Yu Xiaoya is still rather infamous in her class, well, infamous for being named one of the four ugliest girls in class three. Even though she never heard her classmates call her that directly to her face, she has however more or less heard such words in passing.
The school’s most popular girl, Lu Xiaobei, had also attended that year’s winter camp.
It would be a lie to say hearing something like that didn’t make her sad, especially when Yu Xiaoya herself did not think she was ugly. But every time she caught her reflection in the mirror, seeing that bumpy and rough face of hers, she also couldn’t describe herself as a beauty.

Yu Xiaoya’s mother had consoled her, saying, “When I was your age, I had a lot of pimples too, but I never had them after puberty.” Yu Xiaoya looked at her mother’s bright and smooth face, almost believing the older woman’s words. That is, she would have, if not for her father chiming in: “Yeah, back then then when I met your mother on a blind date, I asked her why her face was so pimply and she told me it was because she ate meat.”
Over twenty students from different classes and grades has participated in the school’s winter camp, most of whom were unfamiliar with the person seated beside them.
Yu Xiaoya also didn’t want to stay with the teacher, but she got the feeling that so long as the number of people were uneven, she would be the odd man out. What was she going to do for the entire camp, hang about on her own?
Yu Xiaoya didn’t want her parents to send her teacher a gift, she didn’t want to be special and have the teacher call on her every time to answer a question in class. To her, such a thing would cause nothing but pure torment.

Even though it was four in the afternoon, because parents were worried their kids would get carsick along the way, they were all given light lunches, so now everyone was so hungry, their stomachs had practically started to growl.
Thus, Yu Xiaoya thought: My acne won’t go away until I’m twenty eight? I don’t think I can live until then.
That girl then turned around, locking her eyes onto Yu Xiaoya, then asked her as if they were close: “You don’t want to stay with the teacher either, right?”

After all, to a sixteen year old girl, twenty-eight years old is already an extremely long time.
When her mother finally left the bus, Yu Xiaoya blinked her eyes desperately, trying to hold back her own tears, in fear that she too would start crying.

Yu Xiaoya was never planning on telling her parents how depressed or unhappy she was at school, nor about how she had no friends to point where she had gone entire days there where she never said a word to anyone there.

However, despite her parents’ seemingly democratic nature, by them asking Xiaoya her thoughts on family decisions every time. In reality, even if Yu Xiaoya gave her true thoughts and suggestions, they would rarely agree. Instead they would opt to utilize whatever means they could in order to explain to her why their own reasons for doing things was right so as to make her understand and accept them.
The teacher then began announcing the student names for their room allocations, but despite Yu Xiaoya’s premonition, her ears were still perked as she listened carefully.

Plus, even if she told her parents, what good would come of it? They could neither make her beautiful, make everyone love her nor make her friends with all her classmates. All they could do was send a gift to her teacher, and make them act a bit more considerate towards her.
In truth, Yu Xiaoya didn’t want to go to the school’s winter camp at all. She liked staying at home, because at home, she was free to do as she liked and felt at ease. When there, she didn’t have to to worry about the looks of others or pretend she was alone; if she wanted to cry, she’d cry; and if she wanted to laugh, she’d laugh.
That night, although Yu Xiaoya was slapped by her father, it was not that serious of a matter, only if you looked carefully could you see any traces on her cheek, making her truly relieved to be able to leave her home this once. But at the moment where she was sitting on the bus, bearing witness to her mother’s reddened eyes, a sliver of reluctance forced its way out of her heart, as she realised the winter camp would go on for a month. She had never spent a night outside her house on her own, and even more pressing was the fact that no one from the camp could go back home until New Years.

After the female teacher was done speaking, hushed chattering had begun. Yu Xiaoya then heard a girl say: “No way, I don’t want to room with a teacher. I went through a lot of trouble to not be micro-managed by my parents, I want to play games all night, you know!”
But now, staring at the cap and keys in Lu Xiaobei’s hand, Yu Xiaoya the watched as the teacher pointed in a direction, and both of their gazes land on her.

The teacher ordered us all off the bus, making us all head to the ground floor of one of the buildings to eat lunch.
That girl’s features were exquisite. Her skin was as beautiful as a jade and her eyes carried a faint trace of blue. With no more than a casual glance, all the surroundings and its scenery appeared to all become eclipsed.
“Listen up, while you all are eating, pay attention to what I’m about to say. All of you must be tired today, so after tidying up, you can all head to your rooms and rest.” After eating a little, then stood up and said, “We have a a total of twenty-three student here this time around: fourteen boys and nine girls; and there’ll be two of you per room. Since there’ll be one man out in the girl’s group, that person will be bunking with a teacher for the duration of the trip.”

When the bus came to its stop, it was at the foot of a mountain, where there seemed to have been a small town. Its brilliantly white, snowy landscape enough to leave a person bewitched. For a month, Yu Xiaoya and the others would be staying in two small buildings there. But despite the aged outer appearance of those buildings, the interior decor was not that bad.

Yu Xiaoya was never planning on telling her parents how depressed or unhappy she was at school, nor about how she had no friends to point where she had gone entire days there where she never said a word to anyone there.
But Yu Xiaoya is still rather infamous in her class, well, infamous for being named one of the four ugliest girls in class three. Even though she never heard her classmates call her that directly to her face, she has however more or less heard such words in passing.
When her mother finally left the bus, Yu Xiaoya blinked her eyes desperately, trying to hold back her own tears, in fear that she too would start crying.
Whipping her head up abruptly, Yu Xiaoya went looking for her roommate, soon noticing the teacher handing a pair of keys to a pretty girl sporting a faux-hawk.
After devouring a bowl of warm taro and onion soup, Yu Xiaoya felt at complete ease, as she also couldn’t herself from looking forward to winter camp.
Xiaoyu, Little Rain, was Yu Xiaoya’s pet name from her family, and being the clever and sensible girl she was, upon hearing her parents request, she quickly agreed.
When her mother finally left the bus, Yu Xiaoya blinked her eyes desperately, trying to hold back her own tears, in fear that she too would start crying.
Yu Xiaoya was stunned, I’m not going to be alone?
Since her dad’s car had broken down, he stopped a taxi to take him and her mother back home. Yu Xiaoya had a chance to look around the bus after they left, vacantly checking out the environment around her. It was a bus that seated thirty, and apart from the driver, there were two other teachers.

Yu Xiaoya was stunned. When she first got on the bus, she observed the students that were on it, and apart from from a student wearing a cap she couldn’t make out, no one there was from her class and she didn’t recognise anyone else.
It would be a lie to say hearing something like that didn’t make her sad, especially when Yu Xiaoya herself did not think she was ugly. But every time she caught her reflection in the mirror, seeing that bumpy and rough face of hers, she also couldn’t describe herself as a beauty.
Yu Xiaoya hung her head low, her eyes feeling a bit teary.

What made thing worse, was the fact that even after entering high school for an entire term, she had yet to have made any friends.

Over twenty students from different classes and grades has participated in the school’s winter camp, most of whom were unfamiliar with the person seated beside them.

The next day, the winter camp for the school had begun. Yu Xiaoya’s mother had packed her quite a lot of things, and sent off to the school by bus, with a final urging to her daughter to take good care of herself.
What made thing worse, was the fact that even after entering high school for an entire term, she had yet to have made any friends.
That girl then turned around, locking her eyes onto Yu Xiaoya, then asked her as if they were close: “You don’t want to stay with the teacher either, right?”

Yu Xiaoya was stunned, I’m not going to be alone?
The teacher ordered us all off the bus, making us all head to the ground floor of one of the buildings to eat lunch.
Yu Xiaoya
Even though it was four in the afternoon, because parents were worried their kids would get carsick along the way, they were all given light lunches, so now everyone was so hungry, their stomachs had practically started to growl.
It would be a lie to say hearing something like that didn’t make her sad, especially when Yu Xiaoya herself did not think she was ugly. But every time she caught her reflection in the mirror, seeing that bumpy and rough face of hers, she also couldn’t describe herself as a beauty.
The next day, the winter camp for the school had begun. Yu Xiaoya’s mother had packed her quite a lot of things, and sent off to the school by bus, with a final urging to her daughter to take good care of herself.
After the female teacher was done speaking, hushed chattering had begun. Yu Xiaoya then heard a girl say: “No way, I don’t want to room with a teacher. I went through a lot of trouble to not be micro-managed by my parents, I want to play games all night, you know!”
After devouring a bowl of warm taro and onion soup, Yu Xiaoya felt at complete ease, as she also couldn’t herself from looking forward to winter camp.
After hearing this, Yu Xiaoya lost all hope. In order to continue their studies, her parents had held off on dating and marriage. Her mother hadn’t even met her father until she was twenty-eight, and after getting married, they had her soon after.
The semester quickly came to an end. So when Yu Xiaoya returned home on that day, she brought along a dreadfully disappointing report card with her. That girl’s features were exquisite. Her skin was as beautiful as a jade and her eyes carried a faint trace of blue. With no more than a casual glance, all the surroundings and its scenery appeared to all become eclipsed.
That girl then turned around, locking her eyes onto Yu Xiaoya, then asked her as if they were close: “You don’t want to stay with the teacher either, right?”

Home, was her one and only safe haven.

Whipping her head up abruptly, Yu Xiaoya went looking for her roommate, soon noticing the teacher handing a pair of keys to a pretty girl sporting a faux-hawk.

Plus, even if she told her parents, what good would come of it? They could neither make her beautiful, make everyone love her nor make her friends with all her classmates. All they could do was send a gift to her teacher, and make them act a bit more considerate towards her.
Yu Xiaoya also didn’t want to stay with the teacher, but she got the feeling that so long as the number of people were uneven, she would be the odd man out. What was she going to do for the entire camp, hang about on her own?
However, despite her parents’ seemingly democratic nature, by them asking Xiaoya her thoughts on family decisions every time. In reality, even if Yu Xiaoya gave her true thoughts and suggestions, they would rarely agree. Instead they would opt to utilize whatever means they could in order to explain to her why their own reasons for doing things was right so as to make her understand and accept them.
What made thing worse, was the fact that even after entering high school for an entire term, she had yet to have made any friends.

When her mother finally left the bus, Yu Xiaoya blinked her eyes desperately, trying to hold back her own tears, in fear that she too would start crying.
But now, staring at the cap and keys in Lu Xiaobei’s hand, Yu Xiaoya the watched as the teacher pointed in a direction, and both of their gazes land on her.

We’re giving our everything to raise you, yet you…”
What made thing worse, was the fact that even after entering high school for an entire term, she had yet to have made any friends.
The teacher then began announcing the student names for their room allocations, but despite Yu Xiaoya’s premonition, her ears were still perked as she listened carefully.
That girl’s features were exquisite. Her skin was as beautiful as a jade and her eyes carried a faint trace of blue. With no more than a casual glance, all the surroundings and its scenery appeared to all become eclipsed.
Yu Xiaoya was never planning on telling her parents how depressed or unhappy she was at school, nor about how she had no friends to point where she had gone entire days there where she never said a word to anyone there.
The school’s most popular girl, Lu Xiaobei, had also attended that year’s winter camp.
After devouring a bowl of warm taro and onion soup, Yu Xiaoya felt at complete ease, as she also couldn’t herself from looking forward to winter camp.
Over twenty students from different classes and grades has participated in the school’s winter camp, most of whom were unfamiliar with the person seated beside them.
Yu Xiaoya didn’t want her parents to send her teacher a gift, she didn’t want to be special and have the teacher call on her every time to answer a question in class. To her, such a thing would cause nothing but pure torment.
Yu Xiaoya was stunned, I’m not going to be alone?
