The Goddess and the Ugly Duckling - Chapter 27
What’s it like being friends with a goddess?
Xiaoya had replied: “But what if I only end up as a low-level clerk in the future, I wouldn’t be able to afford a car, not to mention a house.”
Xiaoya put down the textbook, looking at Mr Nan. Mr Nan the said, “Before the first class come see me at my office.”
To which Lu Xiaobei replied: “Won’t you still have me?”
Xiaoya: “I still haven’t decided, but I’m leaning towards liberal arts.”
Xiaoya: “Yes, I am. Almost sure about it too.”
Mr. Nan opened the door as he asked, “Yu Xiaoya, your sophomore grade will be divided into liberal arts and the sciences, what are your plans?”
Xiaoya: Why does it feel like you’re showing off?
Yu Xiaoya replies:
Mr. Nan: “I’ll be in charge of a second grade class next year, too, I was promoted one grade up as well as being put in charge of an honours class. You can continue being in my class, you have made a great amount of progress this semester and I think your true potential is far from being tapped. So as long as you follow my steps, in a year, you can definitely get into a 985 (elite university). You haven’t decided as of now, but you can make your decision earlier—wait, what… you’re thinking of choosing liberal arts?!”
Hearing Mo Yichen read from her textbook, understanding her message, Xiaoya looked to the doorway of the class, Mr Nan had come in. Flipping through her Chinese textbook, Xiaoya found a page with some classical literature and began reading too.
The girl from the same class: “I heard you walked together hand in hand, Captain is very kind, isn’t she, right! Before, there were a lot of people on the forum who said Captain wasn’t east to get close to. Looks like that was just a bunch of lies.”
When I see some of the comments a lot of you guys left before now, I get an idea of just how slow I was. As for when exactly my goddess started liking me, or why she likes me, I still haven’t asked her as yet. We just got together not that long ago, so there are a lot of things we still haven’t asked or said yet. But we have a long time ahead of us, a very very long time, and it’ll be more than enough for us to ask and tell each other whatever we want to say.
Another girl: “Um, even though this is a little sudden, the thing is, at the end of the term, there’ll be a class party thrown in our class so… can you maybe ask Captain to come?”
Xiaoya lifted her head, looking up to see two girls surrounding her, warm smiles hanging on their faces, their eyes twinkling with cunning. “Do you know the Captain?”
One of the girls then responded: “Lu Xiaobei, in grade three, she was the former Student Union president. The seniors all used t call her ‘Captain’.”
I never thought I’d come back to leave a response here, but… a lot of you messaged me privately, so I’ll say just a bit more.
Xiaoya walked out the office after giving a couple perfunctory yeses in response.
Xiaoya suddenly felt the fine hairs on her hands stand up, the realisation of herself being surrounded students facing her way with eyes full of envy.

Lu Xiaobei told me the school is always in need of teachers for their village exchange programs and their principal is always has a selected number of spots to be filled left pending.
While Xiaoya gave a yeah in response, she made he retreat.
Xiaoya was shocked, asking, “You never went back home? Did you tell your parents?”
Hesitating for a bit, Xiao then deliberate asked, “The Captain?”
My goddess and I are together, not as friends, but in a relationship—as in, dating.
But Xiaoya replied coquettishly, “But I want to struggle through it all with you.” For us to build our own home with both out blood sweat and tears.

Xiaoya never expected her time together with Lu Xiaobei would be so short, and she thinks Lu Xiaobei shared those same sentiments with her. When they parted ways yesterday, but before Xiaoya returned home, Lu Xiaobei had told her, “If you want to make our relationship public, you can, you can tell anyone you’d like. If you’re apprehensive about us in front of others, in front of your parents, we can also be together secretly if you’d like.
Xiaoya: “Is everything fine now?”
By the time she arrived at the office door and planned to knock, Xiaoya still wondered about the reason Mr. Nan wanted to see her. He wouldn’t really be planning to make me at as a spy, right?
Mo Yichen: “I wonder if it’s because I wasn’t able to be outdoors for…”

If Mr. Nan seriously thought of doing this, he can’t blame me for complaining about it to my girlfriend!
Mr Nan then tapped his finger against Xiaoya’s desk.
When Mr. Nan saw Xiaoya standing at the doorway, he gently told her: “Come in.”

The best teachers at our school teach Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry; our school is famous for its science student, of which there’s a great many number of when compared to those pursuing liberal arts. Even though the classroom environment within the liberal arts courses is a bit better, is such a thing worth it in comparison to your entire future?”
But I will tell you guys this, your guess was wrong, it wasn’t my goddess who made the first move in confessing, it was me. Some of you guys said I was way too reserved to make the first move, but I was able to win over my goddess quite awesomely at least once, okay?
What’s it like being friends with a goddess?
“I seriously never thought Xiaoya would be friends with our goddess.”

When Mr. Nan saw Xiaoya standing at the doorway, he gently told her: “Come in.”
Looking at the blue sky and white clouds through a window, her mind wondered to the airport of their small town, and whether the captain boarded the plane for her flight as yet.
Xiaoya: “Did you and Xiang Yi spend two whole days at the amusement park?”
Mo Yichen: “So… are you going?”
Anyway, my goddess’ college entrance exams are over and the university she might be going to is in the country’s capital. Even though the distance from the south to the north is really far, I truly believe the feelings we have for one another won’t change.
Mr Nan then tapped his finger against Xiaoya’s desk.
If you guys want to hear more about us, I will talk about my goddess in the future, but not as a friend.
Mo Yichen: …
Xiaoya: “Me choosing liberal arts is because I’m better at it. Sir, I think that everyone’s situation is not the same and…”
While Xiaoya gave a yeah in response, she made he retreat.
One of the girls then responded: “Lu Xiaobei, in grade three, she was the former Student Union president. The seniors all used t call her ‘Captain’.”
The girl from the same class then carefully asked, “A classmate said she saw you two leaving school together and we thought he made a mistake. We never actually though you and Lu Xiaobei would be actually friends.”
—— “Thank you everybody, we’re together” ——

What’s it like being friends with a goddess?
Mo Yichen pointed to the small suitcase resting at her feet, “Four days and three nights. I came to school directly from there this morning.”
Hearing Mo Yichen read from her textbook, understanding her message, Xiaoya looked to the doorway of the class, Mr Nan had come in. Flipping through her Chinese textbook, Xiaoya found a page with some classical literature and began reading too.
Xiaoya used Mr. Nan as an excuse to get out the classroom, so it wouldn’t be good for her to go back there for a good while. After thinking it over she had decided to head to the office after all.
If Mr. Nan seriously thought of doing this, he can’t blame me for complaining about it to my girlfriend!
Xiaoya had replied: “But what if I only end up as a low-level clerk in the future, I wouldn’t be able to afford a car, not to mention a house.”
The day after the college entrance exams ended, despite being a Sunday, the first and second years were still dragged back to class on account of that three-day holiday the exams had given them.
Xiaoya lifted her head, looking up to see two girls surrounding her, warm smiles hanging on their faces, their eyes twinkling with cunning. “Do you know the Captain?”
Xiaoya in her heart of hearts had no wish to discuss Lu Xiaobei with people she did not know. On one hand, Lu Xiaobei was her treasure, but a lot of people also regarded her as their goddess, and she already feels really insecure. But, on the other hand, her relationship with Lu Xiaobei is not the same as it was before, and she cherishes that feeling a lot, though it makes her feel like every day she’s walking on thin ice.
Xiaoya’s first thought was that she and Lu Xiaobei had run into those to girls yesterday while they were out. Afraid of being found out, Xiaoya swept her gaze around the classroom, not knowing how to answer the question, not thinking. She then saw the short-haired girl she volunteered with during the college entrance exams, who was also looking at her curiously, allowing her to understand precisely what went wrong.
The early self-study period, as per usual, Xiaoya and Mo Yichen went about their chats.

Xiaoya said nothing, and Mr nan left the class of his own volition.
Xiaoya walked out the office after giving a couple perfunctory yeses in response.

Xiaoya: “That’s great. Anyhow, didn’t you get bored after playing around in the park for so long?”
But I will tell you guys this, your guess was wrong, it wasn’t my goddess who made the first move in confessing, it was me. Some of you guys said I was way too reserved to make the first move, but I was able to win over my goddess quite awesomely at least once, okay?

The gossip factor hidden deeply within a high school student’s body!
When Mr. Nan saw Xiaoya standing at the doorway, he gently told her: “Come in.”
Fifteen minutes after the bell announcing classes had begun had rung for who knows how long, Mr. Nan finally stopped talking despite himself. “Let’s leave it like this for now, and after you go home, make sure to properly discuss it with your family and come give me your reply tomorrow. The school allows the head teachers of the class to book a spot for some students in advance, the ones with more potential. This way, even if you don’t do well in the final exams, you can still get into the honours classes.”
Xiaoya: “Oh, I know her. Isn’t she the goddess for the entire school?”
Xiaoya was shocked, asking, “You never went back home? Did you tell your parents?”
Mo Yichen gave a light smile, her elegant features like a jasmine, fragrant without it being known, “It’s not what you play, but who you’re playing with.”
Mo Yichen: “My little brother had a fever a few days ago, it got up to thirty-nine and a half degrees Celsius, so my mom and dad were with him at the hospital. There are times where I think if I didn’t say anything they would probably never know when I’m not home.”
Xiaoya: Sice you know, why are you still asking me…
Until she made her way to the door to the classroom, Yu Xiaoya could still hear the murmurings:
Mr Nan then tapped his finger against Xiaoya’s desk.

Mo Yichen: “Why did the homeroom teacher come find you?”
Xiaoya: Why does it feel like you’re showing off?

Xiaoya was shocked, asking, “You never went back home? Did you tell your parents?”

Xiaoya didn’t waste a minute before replying, “No.” She also ha a temper.
“Captain, I started missing you already.”
She recalled the plans she had for herself in the future she once told Lu Xiaobei, about her dreams, to which Lu Xiaobei replied by gently saying, “Don’t be afraid. But, on the other hand, her relationship with Lu Xiaobei is not the same as it was before, and she cherishes that feeling a lot, though it makes her feel like every day she’s walking on thin ice.
The girl from the same class then carefully asked, “A classmate said she saw you two leaving school together and we thought he made a mistake. We never actually though you and Lu Xiaobei would be actually friends.”
“Yu Xiaoya.”
When Mr Nan walked beside Xiaoya, Xiaoya pretended to not notice him, and pretended to concentrate on reading as before.
Xiaoya: “Yes, we’re friends.” I don’t want to talk about it, but at the same time I am a bit proud about what happened.
Tiny Note: Bold text spoken by Yichen was originally in English.
Xiaoya stood up, and the girl had no choice but to helplessly let her go. But, unwilling to give up, she give a final plea: “But if you can, ask Captain, alright? In case she might actually want to come to our party.”
Xiaoya: “Yes, we’re friends.” I don’t want to talk about it, but at the same time I am a bit proud about what happened.
“Captain, I started missing you already.”
Xiaoya: “That’s great. Anyhow, didn’t you get bored after playing around in the park for so long?”
The girl from the same class: “I heard you walked together hand in hand, Captain is very kind, isn’t she, right! Before, there were a lot of people on the forum who said Captain wasn’t east to get close to. Looks like that was just a bunch of lies.”
Walking into the office, Xiaoya asked, “Sir, why did you want to see me?”
Xiaoya: “Me choosing liberal arts is because I’m better at it. Sir, I think that everyone’s situation is not the same and…”
Walking into the office, Xiaoya asked, “Sir, why did you want to see me?”
Another girl: “Um, even though this is a little sudden, the thing is, at the end of the term, there’ll be a class party thrown in our class so… can you maybe ask Captain to come?”
Xiaoya in her heart of hearts had no wish to discuss Lu Xiaobei with people she did not know. Xiaoya lifted her head, looking up to see two girls surrounding her, warm smiles hanging on their faces, their eyes twinkling with cunning. “Do you know the Captain?”
Mo Yichen gave a light smile, her elegant features like a jasmine, fragrant without it being known, “It’s not what you play, but who you’re playing with.”
Xiaoya suddenly felt the fine hairs on her hands stand up, the realisation of herself being surrounded students facing her way with eyes full of envy.
Mo Yichen: “I wonder if it’s because I wasn’t able to be outdoors for…”
—— “Thank you everybody, we’re together” ——
The gossip factor hidden deeply within a high school student’s body!
But Xiaoya replied coquettishly, “But I want to struggle through it all with you.” For us to build our own home with both out blood sweat and tears.
The gossip factor hidden deeply within a high school student’s body!
Mo Yichen pointed to the small suitcase resting at her feet, “Four days and three nights. I came to school directly from there this morning.”
Xiaoya: “I’d like to, but it looks like Captain might be busy around that time and will probably be unable to go. Oh, I almost forgot, Mr. Nan just told me to go see him in his office so I need to find him now.”
Xiaoya stood up, and the girl had no choice but to helplessly let her go. But, unwilling to give up, she give a final plea: “But if you can, ask Captain, alright? In case she might actually want to come to our party.”

But Xiaoya replied coquettishly, “But I want to struggle through it all with you.” For us to build our own home with both out blood sweat and tears.
She recalled the plans she had for herself in the future she once told Lu Xiaobei, about her dreams, to which Lu Xiaobei replied by gently saying, “Don’t be afraid. Whatever it is you want to do, just go ahead and do it. So long as you’re able to support yourself, and take care of yourself, it’ll be good enough.”
The day after the college entrance exams ended, despite being a Sunday, the first and second years were still dragged back to class on account of that three-day holiday the exams had given them.
The early self-study period, as per usual, Xiaoya and Mo Yichen went about their chats.
While Xiaoya gave a yeah in response, she made he retreat.
Xiaoya: “I still haven’t decided, but I’m leaning towards liberal arts.”
Xiaoya: “Yes, we’re friends.” I don’t want to talk about it, but at the same time I am a bit proud about what happened.
Xiaoya: Why does it feel like you’re showing off?
Mo Yichen: “I wonder if it’s because I wasn’t able to be outdoors for…”
Xiaoya in her heart of hearts had no wish to discuss Lu Xiaobei with people she did not know.
Until she made her way to the door to the classroom, Yu Xiaoya could still hear the murmurings:
Xiaoya didn’t waste a minute before replying, “No.” She also ha a temper.
Mo Yichen pointed to the small suitcase resting at her feet, “Four days and three nights. I came to school directly from there this morning.”

Xiaoya: “Is everything fine now?”
Tiny Note: Bold text spoken by Yichen was originally in English.
Xiaoya’s first thought was that she and Lu Xiaobei had run into those to girls yesterday while they were out. Afraid of being found out, Xiaoya swept her gaze around the classroom, not knowing how to answer the question, not thinking. “Damn, I was completely wrong about Yu Xiaoya before. How can our goddess’ eyes be wrong? Look-wise, she’s also quite pretty, so how did I ever think she was ugly before.”
Mo Yichen: “Why did the homeroom teacher come find you?”
Yu Xiaoya: …
Xiaoya walked out the office after giving a couple perfunctory yeses in response.
Xiaoya in her heart of hearts had no wish to discuss Lu Xiaobei with people she did not know. When the self-study class was over, Xiaoya was still absorbed in her reading, silently focused on the words in those ages until…
“Captain, I started missing you already.”
Yu Xiaoya: …
Until she made her way to the door to the classroom, Yu Xiaoya could still hear the murmurings:
Ding Dong Dang Dong
I Miss You

Xiaoya used Mr. Nan as an excuse to get out the classroom, so it wouldn’t be good for her to go back there for a good while. After thinking it over she had decided to head to the office after all.
—— “Thank you everybody, we’re together” ——
Xiaoya suddenly felt the fine hairs on her hands stand up, the realisation of herself being surrounded students facing her way with eyes full of envy.

Xiaoya said nothing, and Mr nan left the class of his own volition.
Xiaoya suddenly felt the fine hairs on her hands stand up, the realisation of herself being surrounded students facing her way with eyes full of envy.
Xiaoya continued to read her textbook. The morning hours are the best time to work, and her memory during these early hours was at its best. So just wanted to be able to have the key points memorised completely.
By the time she arrived at the office door and planned to knock, Xiaoya still wondered about the reason Mr. Nan wanted to see her. He wouldn’t really be planning to make me at as a spy, right?
The day after the college entrance exams ended, despite being a Sunday, the first and second years were still dragged back to class on account of that three-day holiday the exams had given them.
Mr. Nan interrupted her to add, “What does your family think? Do they know what you’ve decided? …”
To which Lu Xiaobei replied: “Won’t you still have me?”
If Mr. Nan seriously thought of doing this, he can’t blame me for complaining about it to my girlfriend!
The only thing you need to remember, is that no matter what happens, I’ll be right behind you and we’ll face it all together.”
Xiaoya stood up, and the girl had no choice but to helplessly let her go. But, unwilling to give up, she give a final plea: “But if you can, ask Captain, alright? In case she might actually want to come to our party.”

Lu Xiaobei told me the school is always in need of teachers for their village exchange programs and their principal is always has a selected number of spots to be filled left pending.

Mo Yichen: “My little brother had a fever a few days ago, it got up to thirty-nine and a half degrees Celsius, so my mom and dad were with him at the hospital. There are times where I think if I didn’t say anything they would probably never know when I’m not home.”
Mo Yichen: …

But I will tell you guys this, your guess was wrong, it wasn’t my goddess who made the first move in confessing, it was me. Some of you guys said I was way too reserved to make the first move, but I was able to win over my goddess quite awesomely at least once, okay?

Mo Yichen: “My dad called yesterday to tell me my brother’s fever subsided. He should be back home today.”

Mr. Nan interrupted her to add, “What does your family think? Do they know what you’ve decided? …”

I never thought I’d come back to leave a response here, but… a lot of you messaged me privately, so I’ll say just a bit more.
Xiaoya: “I still haven’t decided, but I’m leaning towards liberal arts.”
One of the girls then responded: “Lu Xiaobei, in grade three, she was the former Student Union president. The seniors all used t call her ‘Captain’.”

Mr. Nan: “Yu Xiaoya, I’m not saying this for me, but for your sake.

Anyway, my goddess’ college entrance exams are over and the university she might be going to is in the country’s capital. Even though the distance from the south to the north is really far, I truly believe the feelings we have for one another won’t change.

—— “Thank you everybody, we’re together” ——
Xiaoya never expected her time together with Lu Xiaobei would be so short, and she thinks Lu Xiaobei shared those same sentiments with her. When they parted ways yesterday, but before Xiaoya returned home, Lu Xiaobei had told her, “If you want to make our relationship public, you can, you can tell anyone you’d like. If you’re apprehensive about us in front of others, in front of your parents, we can also be together secretly if you’d like.
Xiaoya rolled her eyes, then replied, “In the entire time I’ve been in high school, this is the first time he found me to say anything, so I doubt it’s anything good.”
