The Goddess and the Ugly Duckling - Chapter 8
What’s it like being friends with a goddess?
In turn she replied, “There’s no need for you to do that, it doesn’t cost much. Plus, the winter camp fee also covers food expenses, so you technically already paid.” How could this be the same thing! I thought, still insisting on paying, but my goddess just said to me, “The meal prepared everyday is not the same, and the person in charge of the kitchen will make a note of everything so it could all be paid altogether at the end of winter camp.”
Miss Xu further added, “It’s too late now, so you two can’t go. You can just go there tomorrow around noon, alright? I’ll notify Mr. Qi you might be late for your evening study sessions as well.”
And so, taking the good reputation of the goddess into consideration, my teacher let me off the hook, then told me and the other students to learn from me. (But what the heck are they going to learn from me, though? Are they going to learn how to be friends with a goddess?)
Yu Xiaoya’s reply:
While, sitting beside her, Lu Xiaobei took a pair of unused chopsticks and asked: “Do you want to try some?”
My goddess is so kind—truly befitting of a goddess.
It was to the extent that…
One day, my teacher threw three exam papers in front of me ans asked if I was trying fool myself or her; and right as she was about to list out all my numerous shortcomings, my Goddess stepped in, with clouds painted in all seven colours of the rainbow appearing around her. She went on explaining to the teacher how I was unwell after returning to my room the night before, and how that was the reason why I struggled to solve the problems then (it wasn’t actually why, though). She then proclaimed how, beforehand, she would even check over my homework herself from then on (nani?=_=).
So did my goddess return, you ask? Of course she returned! She even brought me back a care package of: stewed goji berries, jujube (Chinese red dates), and boiled eggs. But back then when I saw those, I just stupidly said: “No way. Do restaurants seriously still make these? I don’t like stuff like this.” My goddess still coaxed me, though; saying eating red dates would be good for me while on my period.
And so, taking the good reputation of the goddess into consideration, my teacher let me off the hook, then told me and the other students to learn from me. (But what the heck are they going to learn from me, though? Are they going to learn how to be friends with a goddess?)
I get the feeling my goddess didn’t want to accept it, but when the time came, I planned on quietly giving it to her.
“I never say random stuff.” Lu Xiaobei then added, “You can also use my phone, you can even use it to video call with your family.”
On the way back—
Even though a lot of the other commenters on the thread are flaunting how beautiful they think their goddesses are, and I firmly believe that none of them can even come close to my goddess’ beauty (all rebuttals to this are rejected btw!) The reason I’m here, however, is to brag about my goddess’ cooking skills! Don’t get me wrong, now. Not only does my goddess run the hall, she also runs the kitchen[1], which is a must when you’re travelling away from home! (Ugh… I wish I could take my goddess along with me for the rest of my life! I’m a bit pissy about this.)
So that night when dinner time came around, I insisted on going with my goddess to the dining hall together. She told me that that she made a deal with the one in charge of the kitchen that everyday after she made a list, the kitchen would be stocked up and she’d go cook after classes were over.
Xiaoya felt as though her life as of recent was like being in a dream. Every morning there was someone there to wake her up; if there were math problems she couldn’t do, there was someone there to tutor her; and for all three meals there was also someone there to feed her.
To this, Lu Xiaobei had replied: “When I did my laundry yesterday I took them with me too. And after washing them in the machine, I hung them to dry downstairs.”
“Oh.” Xiaoya replied simply. Even Xiaoya was aware that the student council was run by the students in their sophomore year, while the seniors prioritised their studies and would no longer be in charge.
Goddess~
My goddess is so kind—truly befitting of a goddess.
You guy’s probably already know that for a few days every month, girls can’t eat anything cold or spicy, right? And as your average girl, I couldn’t be that finicky. What’s more, I was in a mountain valley, and there was only one restaurant for a hundred miles. But that evening after self-study classes was over, my goddess asked me to go back first to the room to rest, then she went to the dining hall to pack a lunch for me.
Lu Xiaobei looked at her standing and motionless form, asking: “Is there something wrong?”
“I never say random stuff.” Lu Xiaobei then added, “You can also use my phone, you can even use it to video call with your family.”

But because she was chewing rice at the moment, Xiaoya didn’t respond.

Xiaoya: “Oh.”
Anyways, afterwards, when I traded notes in secret until the afternoon self-study session with Xiang Yi (another classmate at my winter camp). It was only then I found out that the goji berry, jujube and egg broth was made the goddess herself. Furthermore, because she was making it, she didn’t have time to eat lunch herself, and she didn’t have time to eat the night before that either because she also made me some brown sugar water then.

PS: Now my goddess also lets me play on her phone every night. I really feel like these days are much more comfortable than the ones I had at home.
I get the feeling my goddess didn’t want to accept it, but when the time came, I planned on quietly giving it to her.
My goddess is so kind—truly befitting of a goddess.
“Xiaoya, your parents truly do have high hopes for you. So regardless of whether it’s for their sake or just your own, you should try to work a little harder.” Lu Xiaobei then added, “You’ll come to understand it more in the future. The higher you stand, the more freedom you’ll have, along with a greater chance to be able to do the things you want to do.”
Xiang Yi graciously accepted it, saying, “Thank you, Captain.”
Not hearing her clearly, Lu Xiaobei asked: “What?”
Xiang Yi then went off far somewhere, while Xiaoya and Lu Xiaobei continued their conversation. “Captain, did you and Xiang Yi know each other before camp?” It was clear that compared to the others, the two seemed more familiar with one another.
Now, is the food made by my goddess delicious, you ask? Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm…
Lu Xiaobei replied, “Yeah. Xiang Yi entered the student union in the second term of her first year, so because of the work handovers, we got into contact with each other.”
“Although you’re only a freshman, your foundation is kind of…” Even though Lu Xiaobei had only tutored Xiaoya for a couple of days, she already got a general understanding of the other girl’s academic level.
But… when I got so bored I started counting all the trees on the hillside, my goddess hadn’t yet returned. I was all wrapped up in a tizzy then, not knowing whether I should go to the dining hall to find her, or just continue staying in the room and wait for her? I bet that 90% of the people here would probably pick go find her as their option, yeah? But, you see, I have always been a very passive person; and since I promised to wait, I was just going to keep waiting.
But in front of the ones who have even more high hopes for them, the less they wished to expose their barren inner worlds. Xiaoya then said, “I’m done eating, so are we going to find Ms. Xu now?”
But in front of the ones who have even more high hopes for them, the less they wished to expose their barren inner worlds. Xiaoya then said, “I’m done eating, so are we going to find Ms. Xu now?”
Xiang Yi graciously accepted it, saying, “Thank you, Captain.”
What’s it like being friends with a goddess?
I was stupid back then, and so directly asked the goddess, “Is this because of me? It only hurt a bit a couple days ago, I’ll be all better later. It’s too much trouble for you to have to cook something everyday.”
Xiang Yi graciously accepted it, saying, “Thank you, Captain.”
“Although you’re only a freshman, your foundation is kind of…” Even though Lu Xiaobei had only tutored Xiaoya for a couple of days, she already got a general understanding of the other girl’s academic level.
Lu Xiaobei in turn looked to Xiaoya, seeming to be asking her for her opinion. With Xiaoya, for some unknown reason, replying, “I’m good with anything, I don’t mind.”
You guy’s probably already know that for a few days every month, girls can’t eat anything cold or spicy, right? And as your average girl, I couldn’t be that finicky. I don’t like stuff like this.” My goddess still coaxed me, though; saying eating red dates would be good for me while on my period.
Lu Xiaobei: …
Miss Xu didn’t push the matter any further, only again insisting, “Be careful while you’re heading back,” then allowing them to leave.
One day, my teacher threw three exam papers in front of me ans asked if I was trying fool myself or her; and right as she was about to list out all my numerous shortcomings, my Goddess stepped in, with clouds painted in all seven colours of the rainbow appearing around her. Plus, my goddess’ gentle and coaxing face is sooo beautiful. *covers face*
So Lu Xiaobei then told Xiang Yi, “You can bring Yichen along with you then.”
Once she said this, Xiaoya hesitated for a while before she confessed, “My student registration is actually for No. 12 High School… My parents are the one who found a contact for me here and I got in as a loan student[4].” No. 12 High School was a local general high school in her district, and it had a college entrance rate lying somewhere below ten percent.
Xiaoya: “Oh.”
Anyways, afterwards, when I traded notes in secret until the afternoon self-study session with Xiang Yi (another classmate at my winter camp). Why was she so good to me. That’s when I first realised, I felt sad.
“Alright,” Lu Xiaobei replied.

Lu Xiaobei, by habit, wasn’t one to go digging around for the bottom of things. So after helping Xiaoya pack up the tableware, they went looking for Miss Xu.
Hearing this, Xiaoya then said in a whisper, “But… there isn’t really anything I want to do.”
So that night when dinner time came around, I insisted on going with my goddess to the dining hall together. She told me that that she made a deal with the one in charge of the kitchen that everyday after she made a list, the kitchen would be stocked up and she’d go cook after classes were over.

Seeing her lack of a response, Lu Xiaobei, thinking it was due to her not wanting to call her family right there, said: “When I met the owner of the building today, he said we could ask an attendant to help us open a line to the outside, so Xiaoya can just call them later after we get back.”
Xiaoya then thought to herself: Someone like Lu Xiaobei will definitely never understand. For some people, so long as they have a computer connected to the internet and an unlimited supply of k-dramas, comics, anime and novels; they can live quite happily throughout their lifetime.

“Captain, are you by chance looking for another pet? Xiang Yi stared at her with a pair of two huge cute eyes, before cleverly adding, “The kind of pet that isn’t willing to work and only wants to be fed.”
That evening, Xiaoya and Lu Xiaobei went to the dining hall and opened up a small folded table to use for their meal. Seeing Xiaoya, Xiang Yi came over and called out to her, saying: “Wow… Captain is making food for you again?”
Anyhoo, I’m just going to stop here for now. when get another chance, I’ll tell you guys more about my goddess.
So that night when dinner time came around, I insisted on going with my goddess to the dining hall together. She told me that that she made a deal with the one in charge of the kitchen that everyday after she made a list, the kitchen would be stocked up and she’d go cook after classes were over.
Xiaoya at this point had felt like there was nothing Lu Xiaobei couldn’t do, so seeing Lu Xiaobei appreciate her promise to that extent, had made her heart filled with joy at her recognition. Right then, Xiaoya only wished to study hard, and increase her self-esteem. So in the future when the captain needs her, she’d be able to walk trough fire and water for her with no hesitation.
I was stupid back then, and so directly asked the goddess, “Is this because of me? It only hurt a bit a couple days ago, I’ll be all better later. It’s too much trouble for you to have to cook something everyday.”
Xiang Yi then picked up a piece of the tomato, saying, “You’re even far more diligent that the cook in the school canteen, the tomatoes you made are even skinned too.” The flesh of the tomato was tender and juicy, and it’s taste was just right. If there was one more added it would’ve turned out too sour, and if just one was missing, the taste would’ve been too bland.
My goddess then said to me, “No. I just find the food from the cafeteria here too oily, and I can’t get used to it. Anyway, I want to eat the stuff make myself, so how about we eat together, okay?”
Lu Xiaobei then said, “Now eat up. After this have to go together to find Miss Xu and ask where the printing shop is located. I have an underclassmen who knows some of your classmates, and he scanned a copy of your winter assignments, so we’re going to go print them.”
Lu Xiaobei looked at her standing and motionless form, asking: “Is there something wrong?”
Xiang Yi let out a ‘yeah’, then beamed, “I’m going to give the good news to Yichen right now.”

“My mom’s pretty old-school, she didn’t even let me bring a phone, yet you brought one. If I did that, she wouldn’t have any idea what to say.” Xiaoya felt a bit moved, then thought about it some more before adding, “Plus, if she saw me she won’t like seeing my acne or that I gained weight. So it’s better to not pollute her eyes.”
So Lu Xiaobei then told Xiang Yi, “You can bring Yichen along with you then.”
Xiaoya then thought to herself: Someone like Lu Xiaobei will definitely never understand. For some people, so long as they have a computer connected to the internet and an unlimited supply of k-dramas, comics, anime and novels; they can live quite happily throughout their lifetime.
To be honest, I didn’t like the food served in the cafeteria here as well. It was either not tasty at all or too spicy, so I told her: “Thank you, Captain. I’ll give you some money then. Just tell me how much the kitchen costs and I pay you half.” My goddess’ nickname was Captain, btw. Isn’t that super cool!
On the way back—

Yu Xiaoya’s reply:
But Xiaoya then, not caring much about it, replied, “Oh. it’s alright. It’s not like I can see it myself anyhow. Plus, I only peek at the mirror for a few minutes everyday.”
Goddess~
Now, is the food made by my goddess delicious, you ask? Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm…
While the all-powerful Lu Xiaobei took the piece of paper ans tucked it away, saying: “I got it.”
“Although you’re only a freshman, your foundation is kind of…” Even though Lu Xiaobei had only tutored Xiaoya for a couple of days, she already got a general understanding of the other girl’s academic level.

Let me think about it for a minute, I can’t think of the right words to describe it… Oh yeah, I got it. So freaking good it makes your taste buds want to explode!!! I was never a picky eater, but if everything I ate for this month was made by my goddess, I might become a gourmet in the future.
My goddess also looks divine while cooking and serving the dishes. But every time I think about snapping a picture of it, the food would already be eaten up. I’ll try my best to hold back a little next time, take a picture first, then come post it here later.
That evening, Xiaoya and Lu Xiaobei went to the dining hall and opened up a small folded table to use for their meal. Seeing Xiaoya, Xiang Yi came over and called out to her, saying: “Wow… Captain is making food for you again?”

“What are you talking about? Of course there’s going be a little weight gain during winter. As for the acne…” Lu Xiaobei then continued, “After you finish eating those snacks you have, don’t buy any more.” So far, everyday, she had been trying to cook her meals with less salt, oil and spice as she could.
Xiaoya: “Oh.”
My goddess also looks divine while cooking and serving the dishes. But every time I think about snapping a picture of it, the food would already be eaten up. I’ll try my best to hold back a little next time, take a picture first, then come post it here later.

Xiaoya looked at the phone in Miss Xu’s hand, she was to to say she would just borrow Lu Xiaobei’s phone after they got back to their room to call her. But right then she remembered that bringing along phones was expressly forbidden at the winter camp, so for a while, she did not say a word.
Lu Xiaobei: …

I get the feeling my goddess didn’t want to accept it, but when the time came, I planned on quietly giving it to her.
Miss Xu further added, “It’s too late now, so you two can’t go. You can just go there tomorrow around noon, alright? I’ll notify Mr. Qi you might be late for your evening study sessions as well.”
Lu Xiaobei then said, “Now eat up. After this have to go together to find Miss Xu and ask where the printing shop is located. I have an underclassmen who knows some of your classmates, and he scanned a copy of your winter assignments, so we’re going to go print them.”

Even though a lot of the other commentors on the thread are flaunting how beautiful they think their goddesses are, and I firmly believe that none of them can even come close to my goddess’ beauty (all rebuttals to this are rejected btw!) The reason I’m here, however, is to brag about my goddess’ cooking skills! Don’t get me wrong, now. Not only does my goddess run the hall, she also runs the kitchen, which is a must when you’re travelling away from home! (Ugh… I wish I could take my goddess along with me for the rest of my life! I’m a bit pissy about this.)
—— —— —— ——
You guy’s probably already know that for a few days every month, girls can’t eat anything cold or spicy, right? And as your average girl, I couldn’t be that finicky. What’s more, I was in a mountain valley, and there was only one restaurant for a hundred miles. But that evening after self-study classes was over, my goddess asked me to go back first to the room to rest, then she went to the dining hall to pack a lunch for me.
So Lu Xiaobei then told Xiang Yi, “You can bring Yichen along with you then.”
My goddess is so kind—truly befitting of a goddess.
Lu Xiaobei in turn looked to Xiaoya, seeming to be asking her for her opinion. With Xiaoya, for some unknown reason, replying, “I’m good with anything, I don’t mind.”
On the way back—
Xiaoya felt as though her life as of recent was like being in a dream. Every morning there was someone there to wake her up; if there were math problems she couldn’t do, there was someone there to tutor her; and for all three meals there was also someone there to feed her.
Xiaoya felt as though her life as of recent was like being in a dream. Every morning there was someone there to wake her up; if there were math problems she couldn’t do, there was someone there to tutor her; and for all three meals there was also someone there to feed her.
That evening, Xiaoya and Lu Xiaobei went to the dining hall and opened up a small folded table to use for their meal. Seeing Xiaoya, Xiang Yi came over and called out to her, saying: “Wow… Captain is making food for you again?”
Xiaoya: “Huh? I thought you were just making up random stuff.”

Miss Xu didn’t push the matter any further, only again insisting, “Be careful while you’re heading back,” then allowing them to leave.
It was to the extent that…
Miss Xu then turned her attention to Xiaoya, asking, “Your mother called to ask how you were doing. Since you’re here now, would you like to call her back?”
Why was she so good to me. That’s when I first realised, I felt sad.
In the middle of the table was a plate of scrambled eggs with tomatoes. The eggs were golden, the tomatoes were ruby-red, and the jade-like scallions were sprinkled over it freely coupled with the red sauce surrounding it, added two extra points of visual appeal. Xiang Yi picked up a piece of the fried egg at random, bursting into tears, “Captain, how is your fried egg so delicious!” The chewy egg carried hints of the tartness from the tomatoes which made the mouth feel nice.

Yu Xiaoya’s reply:

Now, is the food made by my goddess delicious, you ask? Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm…
Xiaoya circled the room a couple of times, asking: “Captain, have you seen the clothes I had hanged on the back of the chair? I want to take them to the laundry, but I can’t find them.”
My goddess also looks divine while cooking and serving the dishes. But every time I think about snapping a picture of it, the food would already be eaten up. I’ll try my best to hold back a little next time, take a picture first, then come post it here later.

But Xiaoya then, not caring much about it, replied, “Oh. it’s alright. It’s not like I can see it myself anyhow. Plus, I only peek at the mirror for a few minutes everyday.”
Xiang Yi graciously accepted it, saying, “Thank you, Captain.”
To this, Lu Xiaobei had replied: “When I did my laundry yesterday I took them with me too. And after washing them in the machine, I hung them to dry downstairs.”
Lu Xiaobei in turn looked to Xiaoya, seeming to be asking her for her opinion. With Xiaoya, for some unknown reason, replying, “I’m good with anything, I don’t mind.”

And so, taking the good reputation of the goddess into consideration, my teacher let me off the hook, then told me and the other students to learn from me. (But what the heck are they going to learn from me, though? Are they going to learn how to be friends with a goddess?)
One day, my teacher threw three exam papers in front of me ans asked if I was trying fool myself or her; and right as she was about to list out all my numerous shortcomings, my Goddess stepped in, with clouds painted in all seven colours of the rainbow appearing around her. Xiaoya: “Oh.”
The author has something to say: Thanks for the bombs and thank you to the little angels who commented and followed this work.
What’s it like being friends with a goddess?
Xiang Yi graciously accepted it, saying, “Thank you, Captain.”
In the middle of the table was a plate of scrambled eggs with tomatoes. The eggs were golden, the tomatoes were ruby-red, and the jade-like scallions were sprinkled over it freely coupled with the red sauce surrounding it, added two extra points of visual appeal. Xiaoya then thought to herself: Someone like Lu Xiaobei will definitely never understand. For some people, so long as they have a computer connected to the internet and an unlimited supply of k-dramas, comics, anime and novels; they can live quite happily throughout their lifetime.
Lu Xiaobei, by habit, wasn’t one to go digging around for the bottom of things. So after helping Xiaoya pack up the tableware, they went looking for Miss Xu.
Now, is the food made by my goddess delicious, you ask? Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm…

Lu Xiaobei looked at her standing and motionless form, asking: “Is there something wrong?”
Lu Xiaobei: “After we get back, I’ll head to the first floor to ask the attendant to let you call out directly.”
On the way back—
Now, is the food made by my goddess delicious, you ask? Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm…
Let me think about it for a minute, I can’t think of the right words to describe it… Oh yeah, I got it. So freaking good it makes your taste buds want to explode!!! I was never a picky eater, but if everything I ate for this month was made by my goddess, I might become a gourmet in the future.
So Lu Xiaobei then told Xiang Yi, “You can bring Yichen along with you then.”
Xiaoya replied: “Oh, no. But if there’s something you need help with in the future, Captain, please don’t hesitate to ask me.”
Xiang Yi graciously accepted it, saying, “Thank you, Captain.”
Lu Xiaobei: …
Even though a lot of the other commentors on the thread are flaunting how beautiful they think their goddesses are, and I firmly believe that none of them can even come close to my goddess’ beauty (all rebuttals to this are rejected btw!) The reason I’m here, however, is to brag about my goddess’ cooking skills! Don’t get me wrong, now. Not only does my goddess run the hall, she also runs the kitchen, which is a must when you’re travelling away from home! (Ugh… I wish I could take my goddess along with me for the rest of my life! I’m a bit pissy about this.)
It was to the extent that…
I was stupid back then, and so directly asked the goddess, “Is this because of me? It only hurt a bit a couple days ago, I’ll be all better later. It’s too much trouble for you to have to cook something everyday.”
Xiaoya replied: “Oh, no. But if there’s something you need help with in the future, Captain, please don’t hesitate to ask me.”
“Captain, are you by chance looking for another pet? Xiang Yi stared at her with a pair of two huge cute eyes, before cleverly adding, “The kind of pet that isn’t willing to work and only wants to be fed.”

Not hearing her clearly, Lu Xiaobei asked: “What?”

Anyhoo, I’m just going to stop here for now. when get another chance, I’ll tell you guys more about my goddess.

Lu Xiaobei: “Okay then.”
“Alright,” Lu Xiaobei replied.
PS: Now my goddess also lets me play on her phone every night. I really feel like these days are much more comfortable than the ones I had at home.
It was to the extent that…
“Although you’re only a freshman, your foundation is kind of…” Even though Lu Xiaobei had only tutored Xiaoya for a couple of days, she already got a general understanding of the other girl’s academic level.
While, sitting beside her, Lu Xiaobei took a pair of unused chopsticks and asked: “Do you want to try some?”
To this, Lu Xiaobei had replied: “When I did my laundry yesterday I took them with me too. And after washing them in the machine, I hung them to dry downstairs.”
After hearing the reason they came to find her, Miss Xu ripped out a piece of paper directly from her book and wrote out a string of addresses. “We’re staying in the new district, so they’re still a lot of facilities that haven’t been constructed as yet. The print shop is located in the old district at the centre of the town. If the two of you go left from the building you’re staying at, you’ll see a bridge. Follow that bridge then take a right, and keep going straight until you meet an intersection, but don’t turn there and just keep going straight. When you see a second intersection, you can turn right and from there you’ll be able to see the print shop.”
Miss Xu further added, “It’s too late now, so you two can’t go. You can just go there tomorrow around noon, alright? I’ll notify Mr. Qi you might be late for your evening study sessions as well.”
I get the feeling my goddess didn’t want to accept it, but when the time came, I planned on quietly giving it to her.
“Oh.” Xiaoya replied simply. Even Xiaoya was aware that the student council was run by the students in their sophomore year, while the seniors prioritised their studies and would no longer be in charge.
Lu Xiaobei replied, “Yeah. Xiang Yi entered the student union in the second term of her first year, so because of the work handovers, we got into contact with each other.”
Seeing her lack of a response, Lu Xiaobei, thinking it was due to her not wanting to call her family right there, said: “When I met the owner of the building today, he said we could ask an attendant to help us open a line to the outside, so Xiaoya can just call them later after we get back.”

To this, Lu Xiaobei had replied: “When I did my laundry yesterday I took them with me too. And after washing them in the machine, I hung them to dry downstairs.”
My goddess then said to me, “No. I just find the food from the cafeteria here too oily, and I can’t get used to it. Anyway, I want to eat the stuff make myself, so how about we eat together, okay?”

So that night when dinner time came around, I insisted on going with my goddess to the dining hall together. She told me that that she made a deal with the one in charge of the kitchen that everyday after she made a list, the kitchen would be stocked up and she’d go cook after classes were over.

The having no sense of direction Xiaoya then thought: What the heck did she just say?

My goddess is so kind—truly befitting of a goddess.
Yu Xiaoya’s reply:
Goddess~
Goddess~

Lu Xiaobei replied, “Yeah. Xiang Yi entered the student union in the second term of her first year, so because of the work handovers, we got into contact with each other.”
Goddess~
Goddess~
“Oh.” Xiaoya replied simply. Even Xiaoya was aware that the student council was run by the students in their sophomore year, while the seniors prioritised their studies and would no longer be in charge.
“I never say random stuff.” Lu Xiaobei then added, “You can also use my phone, you can even use it to video call with your family.”
Miss Xu then turned her attention to Xiaoya, asking, “Your mother called to ask how you were doing. Since you’re here now, would you like to call her back?”
“My mom’s pretty old-school, she didn’t even let me bring a phone, yet you brought one. The author has something to say: Thanks for the bombs and thank you to the little angels who commented and followed this work.
Lu Xiaobei in turn looked to Xiaoya, seeming to be asking her for her opinion. With Xiaoya, for some unknown reason, replying, “I’m good with anything, I don’t mind.”
“I never say random stuff.” Lu Xiaobei then added, “You can also use my phone, you can even use it to video call with your family.”

That evening, Xiaoya and Lu Xiaobei went to the dining hall and opened up a small folded table to use for their meal. Seeing Xiaoya, Xiang Yi came over and called out to her, saying: “Wow… Captain is making food for you again?”
Lu Xiaobei: …
Lu Xiaobei replied, “Yeah. Xiang Yi entered the student union in the second term of her first year, so because of the work handovers, we got into contact with each other.”
So Lu Xiaobei then told Xiang Yi, “You can bring Yichen along with you then.”
Lu Xiaobei looked at her standing and motionless form, asking: “Is there something wrong?”
But because she was chewing rice at the moment, Xiaoya didn’t respond.
Xiang Yi let out a ‘yeah’, then beamed, “I’m going to give the good news to Yichen right now.”
Xiaoya: …
上得了厅堂,下得了厨房… this is part of the saying referenced here, it refers to a woman who can not only greet guests when then enter the house, but can handle stuff in the kitchen too. Back in the day, receiving guests was against tradition and being bound to the kitchen was commonplace. Basically it means a woman who can do anything. This is the whole phrase if you’re curious: Man the halls, run the kitchen, write code, detect anomalies, slay trojans, jump fences, drive a good car, afford a new house, fight mistresses, and beat up thugs. [] Goji/wolfberry, jujube/Chinese red dates, and wild egg soup. [] 番茄炒蛋: scambled eggs with tomato. []^4. Student Registration: her grades from her Senior High School Entrance Exams got her qualified to enter No. 12 High School and this will be the school shown on her official record even though she’s studying at another school. Being a loan student means her parents are paying extra to have her study there. Explains the slipper action from earlier. []Random note: In the early chapters Ms Xu’s name uses this character [徐:Xú] but the author uses [余:Yú] after Xiaoya’s name is no longer mentioned with her last name. I think it’s just an error the author missed, since when Xiaoya uses Yu, the Xu pops back up and even gets mixes up as Xiaoya’s last name too
Xiaoya at this point had felt like there was nothing Lu Xiaobei couldn’t do, so seeing Lu Xiaobei appreciate her promise to that extent, had made her heart filled with joy at her recognition. Right then, Xiaoya only wished to study hard, and increase her self-esteem. So in the future when the captain needs her, she’d be able to walk trough fire and water for her with no hesitation.
“Although you’re only a freshman, your foundation is kind of…” Even though Lu Xiaobei had only tutored Xiaoya for a couple of days, she already got a general understanding of the other girl’s academic level.
But because she was chewing rice at the moment, Xiaoya didn’t respond.
PS: Now my goddess also lets me play on her phone every night. I really feel like these days are much more comfortable than the ones I had at home.
Xiaoya felt as though her life as of recent was like being in a dream. Every morning there was someone there to wake her up; if there were math problems she couldn’t do, there was someone there to tutor her; and for all three meals there was also someone there to feed her.

Xiang Yi then went off far somewhere, while Xiaoya and Lu Xiaobei continued their conversation. “Captain, did you and Xiang Yi know each other before camp?” It was clear that compared to the others, the two seemed more familiar with one another.

Lu Xiaobei: “After we get back, I’ll head to the first floor to ask the attendant to let you call out directly.”
Xiang Yi let out a ‘yeah’, then beamed, “I’m going to give the good news to Yichen right now.”
Lu Xiaobei replied, “Yeah. Xiang Yi entered the student union in the second term of her first year, so because of the work handovers, we got into contact with each other.”
Lu Xiaobei: “Okay then.”
“My mom’s pretty old-school, she didn’t even let me bring a phone, yet you brought one. Anyhoo, I’m just going to stop here for now. when get another chance, I’ll tell you guys more about my goddess.
“Oh.” Xiaoya replied simply. Even Xiaoya was aware that the student council was run by the students in their sophomore year, while the seniors prioritised their studies and would no longer be in charge.

Lu Xiaobei, by habit, wasn’t one to go digging around for the bottom of things. So after helping Xiaoya pack up the tableware, they went looking for Miss Xu.
While, sitting beside her, Lu Xiaobei took a pair of unused chopsticks and asked: “Do you want to try some?”
The having no sense of direction Xiaoya then thought: What the heck did she just say?
Lu Xiaobei then said, “Now eat up. After this have to go together to find Miss Xu and ask where the printing shop is located. I have an underclassmen who knows some of your classmates, and he scanned a copy of your winter assignments, so we’re going to go print them.”
Let me think about it for a minute, I can’t think of the right words to describe it… Oh yeah, I got it. So freaking good it makes your taste buds want to explode!!! I was never a picky eater, but if everything I ate for this month was made by my goddess, I might become a gourmet in the future.
I was stupid back then, and so directly asked the goddess, “Is this because of me? It only hurt a bit a couple days ago, I’ll be all better later. It’s too much trouble for you to have to cook something everyday.”
But… when I got so bored I started counting all the trees on the hillside, my goddess hadn’t yet returned. I was all wrapped up in a tizzy then, not knowing whether I should go to the dining hall to find her, or just continue staying in the room and wait for her? Xiang Yi then went off far somewhere, while Xiaoya and Lu Xiaobei continued their conversation. “Captain, did you and Xiang Yi know each other before camp?” It was clear that compared to the others, the two seemed more familiar with one another.
Lu Xiaobei replied, “Yeah. Xiang Yi entered the student union in the second term of her first year, so because of the work handovers, we got into contact with each other.”
But Xiaoya then, not caring much about it, replied, “Oh. it’s alright. It’s not like I can see it myself anyhow. Plus, I only peek at the mirror for a few minutes everyday.”
Xiaoya: …
My goddess is so kind—truly befitting of a goddess.
PS: Now my goddess also lets me play on her phone every night. I really feel like these days are much more comfortable than the ones I had at home.
Xiaoya replied: “Oh, no. But if there’s something you need help with in the future, Captain, please don’t hesitate to ask me.”
Xiaoya felt as though her life as of recent was like being in a dream. Every morning there was someone there to wake her up; if there were math problems she couldn’t do, there was someone there to tutor her; and for all three meals there was also someone there to feed her.
That evening, Xiaoya and Lu Xiaobei went to the dining hall and opened up a small folded table to use for their meal. Seeing Xiaoya, Xiang Yi came over and called out to her, saying: “Wow… Captain is making food for you again?”

“Captain, are you by chance looking for another pet? Xiang Yi stared at her with a pair of two huge cute eyes, before cleverly adding, “The kind of pet that isn’t willing to work and only wants to be fed.”
PS: Now my goddess also lets me play on her phone every night. I really feel like these days are much more comfortable than the ones I had at home.
My goddess then said to me, “No. I just find the food from the cafeteria here too oily, and I can’t get used to it. Anyway, I want to eat the stuff make myself, so how about we eat together, okay?”
I was stupid back then, and so directly asked the goddess, “Is this because of me? It only hurt a bit a couple days ago, I’ll be all better later. It’s too much trouble for you to have to cook something everyday.”

The having no sense of direction Xiaoya then thought: What the heck did she just say?
Yu Xiaoya’s reply:
My goddess also looks divine while cooking and serving the dishes. But every time I think about snapping a picture of it, the food would already be eaten up. I’ll try my best to hold back a little next time, take a picture first, then come post it here later.

“Xiaoya, your parents truly do have high hopes for you. So regardless of whether it’s for their sake or just your own, you should try to work a little harder.” Lu Xiaobei then added, “You’ll come to understand it more in the future. Now, is the food made by my goddess delicious, you ask? Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm…
The author has something to say: Thanks for the bombs and thank you to the little angels who commented and followed this work.

Xiaoya then thought to herself: Someone like Lu Xiaobei will definitely never understand. For some people, so long as they have a computer connected to the internet and an unlimited supply of k-dramas, comics, anime and novels; they can live quite happily throughout their lifetime.
Seeing her lack of a response, Lu Xiaobei, thinking it was due to her not wanting to call her family right there, said: “When I met the owner of the building today, he said we could ask an attendant to help us open a line to the outside, so Xiaoya can just call them later after we get back.”
Even though a lot of the other commentors on the thread are flaunting how beautiful they think their goddesses are, and I firmly believe that none of them can even come close to my goddess’ beauty (all rebuttals to this are rejected btw!) On the way back—
Xiaoya: “Oh.”
Hearing this, Xiaoya then said in a whisper, “But… there isn’t really anything I want to do.”
Why was she so good to me. That’s when I first realised, I felt sad.
Xiaoya: “Huh? I thought you were just making up random stuff.”
Lu Xiaobei: …
Lu Xiaobei, by habit, wasn’t one to go digging around for the bottom of things. So after helping Xiaoya pack up the tableware, they went looking for Miss Xu.

Xiang Yi graciously accepted it, saying, “Thank you, Captain.”

It was to the extent that…

Miss Xu further added, “It’s too late now, so you two can’t go. You can just go there tomorrow around noon, alright? I’ll notify Mr. Qi you might be late for your evening study sessions as well.”

When you see a second intersection, you can turn right and from there you’ll be able to see the print shop.”
Miss Xu didn’t push the matter any further, only again insisting, “Be careful while you’re heading back,” then allowing them to leave.
But in front of the ones who have even more high hopes for them, the less they wished to expose their barren inner worlds. Xiaoya then said, “I’m done eating, so are we going to find Ms. Xu now?”
Why was she so good to me. That’s when I first realised, I felt sad.
The having no sense of direction Xiaoya then thought: What the heck did she just say?
It was to the extent that…
Lu Xiaobei in turn looked to Xiaoya, seeming to be asking her for her opinion. With Xiaoya, for some unknown reason, replying, “I’m good with anything, I don’t mind.”
So Lu Xiaobei then told Xiang Yi, “You can bring Yichen along with you then.”
Let me think about it for a minute, I can’t think of the right words to describe it… Oh yeah, I got it. So freaking good it makes your taste buds want to explode!!! I was never a picky eater, but if everything I ate for this month was made by my goddess, I might become a gourmet in the future.
My goddess also looks divine while cooking and serving the dishes. But every time I think about snapping a picture of it, the food would already be eaten up. I’ll try my best to hold back a little next time, take a picture first, then come post it here later.
Lu Xiaobei looked at her standing and motionless form, asking: “Is there something wrong?”
Xiang Yi graciously accepted it, saying, “Thank you, Captain.”
I think it’s just an error the author missed, since when Xiaoya uses Yu, the Xu pops back up and even gets mixes up as Xiaoya’s last name too
The author has something to say: Thanks for the bombs and thank you to the little angels who commented and followed this work.
Xiaoya then thought to herself: Someone like Lu Xiaobei will definitely never understand. For some people, so long as they have a computer connected to the internet and an unlimited supply of k-dramas, comics, anime and novels; they can live quite happily throughout their lifetime.
Anyhoo, I’m just going to stop here for now. when get another chance, I’ll tell you guys more about my goddess.
While the all-powerful Lu Xiaobei took the piece of paper ans tucked it away, saying: “I got it.”
“Although you’re only a freshman, your foundation is kind of…” Even though Lu Xiaobei had only tutored Xiaoya for a couple of days, she already got a general understanding of the other girl’s academic level.
Xiaoya felt as though her life as of recent was like being in a dream. Every morning there was someone there to wake her up; if there were math problems she couldn’t do, there was someone there to tutor her; and for all three meals there was also someone there to feed her.
But in front of the ones who have even more high hopes for them, the less they wished to expose their barren inner worlds. Xiaoya then said, “I’m done eating, so are we going to find Ms. Xu now?”
Yu Xiaoya’s reply:
So Lu Xiaobei then told Xiang Yi, “You can bring Yichen along with you then.”
The having no sense of direction Xiaoya then thought: What the heck did she just say?
Xiang Yi let out a ‘yeah’, then beamed, “I’m going to give the good news to Yichen right now.”
Xiang Yi then went off far somewhere, while Xiaoya and Lu Xiaobei continued their conversation. “Captain, did you and Xiang Yi know each other before camp?” It was clear that compared to the others, the two seemed more familiar with one another.
So that night when dinner time came around, I insisted on going with my goddess to the dining hall together. She told me that that she made a deal with the one in charge of the kitchen that everyday after she made a list, the kitchen would be stocked up and she’d go cook after classes were over.
Miss Xu further added, “It’s too late now, so you two can’t go. You can just go there tomorrow around noon, alright? I’ll notify Mr. Qi you might be late for your evening study sessions as well.”
“Alright,” Lu Xiaobei replied.

Xiang Yi let out a ‘yeah’, then beamed, “I’m going to give the good news to Yichen right now.”
The author has something to say: Thanks for the bombs and thank you to the little angels who commented and followed this work.
Hearing this, Xiaoya then said in a whisper, “But… there isn’t really anything I want to do.”

On the way back—
Xiaoya looked at the phone in Miss Xu’s hand, she was to to say she would just borrow Lu Xiaobei’s phone after they got back to their room to call her. But right then she remembered that bringing along phones was expressly forbidden at the winter camp, so for a while, she did not say a word.
PS: Now my goddess also lets me play on her phone every night. I really feel like these days are much more comfortable than the ones I had at home.
Miss Xu then turned her attention to Xiaoya, asking, “Your mother called to ask how you were doing. Since you’re here now, would you like to call her back?”
It was to the extent that…
In turn she replied, “There’s no need for you to do that, it doesn’t cost much.
Xiaoya: …
Lu Xiaobei replied, “Yeah. Xiang Yi entered the student union in the second term of her first year, so because of the work handovers, we got into contact with each other.”
Lu Xiaobei then said, “Now eat up. After this have to go together to find Miss Xu and ask where the printing shop is located. I have an underclassmen who knows some of your classmates, and he scanned a copy of your winter assignments, so we’re going to go print them.”
Seeing her lack of a response, Lu Xiaobei, thinking it was due to her not wanting to call her family right there, said: “When I met the owner of the building today, he said we could ask an attendant to help us open a line to the outside, so Xiaoya can just call them later after we get back.”
Xiaoya: “Huh? I thought you were just making up random stuff.”

Lu Xiaobei: “After we get back, I’ll head to the first floor to ask the attendant to let you call out directly.”
While, sitting beside her, Lu Xiaobei took a pair of unused chopsticks and asked: “Do you want to try some?”
Miss Xu didn’t push the matter any further, only again insisting, “Be careful while you’re heading back,” then allowing them to leave.
Xiaoya replied: “Oh, no. But if there’s something you need help with in the future, Captain, please don’t hesitate to ask me.”
Plus, my goddess’ gentle and coaxing face is sooo beautiful. *covers face*
Why was she so good to me. That’s when I first realised, I felt sad.

Xiaoya circled the room a couple of times, asking: “Captain, have you seen the clothes I had hanged on the back of the chair? I want to take them to the laundry, but I can’t find them.”
“Captain, are you by chance looking for another pet? Xiang Yi stared at her with a pair of two huge cute eyes, before cleverly adding, “The kind of pet that isn’t willing to work and only wants to be fed.”
Lu Xiaobei looked at her standing and motionless form, asking: “Is there something wrong?”
Seeing her lack of a response, Lu Xiaobei, thinking it was due to her not wanting to call her family right there, said: “When I met the owner of the building today, he said we could ask an attendant to help us open a line to the outside, so Xiaoya can just call them later after we get back.”
Lu Xiaobei: “After we get back, I’ll head to the first floor to ask the attendant to let you call out directly.”
That evening, Xiaoya and Lu Xiaobei went to the dining hall and opened up a small folded table to use for their meal. Seeing Xiaoya, Xiang Yi came over and called out to her, saying: “Wow… Captain is making food for you again?”
To be honest, I didn’t like the food served in the cafeteria here as well. It was either not tasty at all or too spicy, so I told her: “Thank you, Captain. I’ll give you some money then. Xiaoya circled the room a couple of times, asking: “Captain, have you seen the clothes I had hanged on the back of the chair? I want to take them to the laundry, but I can’t find them.”
Not hearing her clearly, Lu Xiaobei asked: “What?”
Lu Xiaobei: “After we get back, I’ll head to the first floor to ask the attendant to let you call out directly.”
What’s it like being friends with a goddess?
Let me think about it for a minute, I can’t think of the right words to describe it… Oh yeah, I got it. So freaking good it makes your taste buds want to explode!!! I was never a picky eater, but if everything I ate for this month was made by my goddess, I might become a gourmet in the future.

Xiaoya: “Oh.”
My goddess then said to me, “No. I just find the food from the cafeteria here too oily, and I can’t get used to it. Anyway, I want to eat the stuff make myself, so how about we eat together, okay?”
The having no sense of direction Xiaoya then thought: What the heck did she just say?

I get the feeling my goddess didn’t want to accept it, but when the time came, I planned on quietly giving it to her.
Hearing this, Xiaoya then said in a whisper, “But… there isn’t really anything I want to do.”
“Although you’re only a freshman, your foundation is kind of…” Even though Lu Xiaobei had only tutored Xiaoya for a couple of days, she already got a general understanding of the other girl’s academic level.
“I never say random stuff.” Lu Xiaobei then added, “You can also use my phone, you can even use it to video call with your family.”
Lu Xiaobei, by habit, wasn’t one to go digging around for the bottom of things. So after helping Xiaoya pack up the tableware, they went looking for Miss Xu.
My goddess is so kind—truly befitting of a goddess.

Xiaoya: “Oh.”
The author has something to say: Thanks for the bombs and thank you to the little angels who commented and followed this work.
Xiaoya circled the room a couple of times, asking: “Captain, have you seen the clothes I had hanged on the back of the chair? I want to take them to the laundry, but I can’t find them.”
Yu Xiaoya’s reply:
I was stupid back then, and so directly asked the goddess, “Is this because of me? It only hurt a bit a couple days ago, I’ll be all better later. It’s too much trouble for you to have to cook something everyday.”
But… when I got so bored I started counting all the trees on the hillside, my goddess hadn’t yet returned. I was all wrapped up in a tizzy then, not knowing whether I should go to the dining hall to find her, or just continue staying in the room and wait for her? I bet that 90% of the people here would probably pick go find her as their option, yeah? But, you see, I have always been a very passive person; and since I promised to wait, I was just going to keep waiting.
My goddess also looks divine while cooking and serving the dishes. But every time I think about snapping a picture of it, the food would already be eaten up. I’ll try my best to hold back a little next time, take a picture first, then come post it here later.
Yu Xiaoya’s reply:
While, sitting beside her, Lu Xiaobei took a pair of unused chopsticks and asked: “Do you want to try some?”
Plus, my goddess’ gentle and coaxing face is sooo beautiful. *covers face*
But Xiaoya then, not caring much about it, replied, “Oh. it’s alright. It’s not like I can see it myself anyhow. Plus, I only peek at the mirror for a few minutes everyday.”
