The Gods Decree - Chapter 163 Take Charge Sir Mouse
Taf then looked away as at the moment there was nothing that could be done from where he was.
In case he was wrong and Drax had overpowered the darkness art. He had a little surprise in store for him.
Taf then turned his attention to all the squad members who still looked at himself and May saying,
“Shall we be going?”
Not a soul objected as they stared at the two still pondering about their strength. With the strength held by both, who among them would dare disagree with anything either spoke?
Even Ava who was always the center of attention took a backseat. It can be seen that strength is key overall in their minds. Only the members of squad Malgrey handled it a bit better.
However, if they were to disclose that the two were only mortals a year prior? How would Malnor and Ava take it?
Taf took note that the morale of both Ava and Malnor had dropped significantly after the loss of so many of those under their command.
They seemingly seconded guessed decisions that prior to today they wouldn’t have.
Therefore he knew someone had to take on the mantle of leadership. Malgrey would be the next in line but whatever decision he made there was a need for Taf to concur in his mind. Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.novelhall.com for visiting.
Since this was the case why not take the reigns full on.
They all then quickly mounted upon their demon beasts as there was a lot to be discussed among themselves within Starlight City.
Also, the City Lord has to be given a report of the completion of the mission. As well as the finalized report to the Dark Abylis Sect.
????????????????????
Within a grand hall of the Starlight City towers a man’s voice could be he heard booming.
“Wonderful work all of you!”
City lord Jimenez was in a joyous mood after being informed of the success of the mission by the squad leaders. He then continued,
Sigh!
“As for your fallen members, I know nothing could possibly bring them back and no reward can pay the debt my city owes. However, I will still ensure that the city compensates somewhat for your lose.”
Soon the grand mahogany doors opened. Entering the room were six young ladies dressed in all white with trays laden with silver pouches.
All the members of the different squads looked at the trays seeing the space pouches. However, Ava, Selena, and Malnor only looked aways not wanting to partake.
This simply reminded them of all the losses they sustained in the last few days. At the moment they would be in favor of leaving this city as quickly as possible.
Discerning no one made a move for the gifts, city lord Jimenez could only sigh. Nevertheless, he saw all pouches being summoned in one direction.
It was a youth with dreads who didn’t even run his senses through them.
“City lord your gifts are quite appreciated. We of the Dark Abylis Sect are grateful to provide our services.
If you don’t mind, I’ll disperse these gifts when my squadmates are in better spirits. How about it?”
Taf responded with a smile. This startled the city lord who knew this was one of the youngest members of the three squads.
Why did he feel at this moment this youth was the one among all with the most commanding presence.
He looked at Malnor and Ava who initially were the ones that took charge of the operation. They didn’t seem put off by the youth’s action or anything.
From all appearances, it was as though there was a power shift among the squads.
This the city lord assumes seeing that of all the squads which had left in the morning, only one came back with all its members. Which was the most unlikely squad, the supposedly weakest of the three?
These were his assumptions as he said his final goodbyes.
“Stay however long you like, my city welcomes you wholeheartedly.”
Then City Lord Jimenez and his officials made their way out of the hall in high spirits. Why wouldn’t they be seeing their city was finally relieved of a seeming plague.
“Were anything found on any of the enemy corpses.”
Taf addressed all within the room. As he spoke some clattering was heard on the desk where all were seated. The sounds came from pins and emblems which resembled crows.
This was Taf’s doing as all the pins found from the dead mercenaries were dropped. At once all recognized them.
They were what disciples of the Crow Mountain Sect used as a mean of identification.
Soon May also threw the same contents on the table as she uttered,
“These were in possession of the female mercenary I killed and her underlings.”
All looked and at that moment they knew they had strumbled upon a plot greater than themselves.
Soon even more clatterings were heard and yet again it was the same. This time it was Malgrey and Niesha who threw out contents they had recovered from their deceased victims.
“Malnor what are your thoughts?”
Taf then threw a question at Malnor who paused as if in contemplation. Then finally spoke up,
“I assume the crows yet again are at it. We all know this is one of our sect’s top twenty income earners and its value has been on the increase recently.
In the past, they have tried similar tactics to cripple our strengths.”
All nodded their heads in agreement at Malnor’s words. Still, Taf went around the room. He then looked in the direction of Ava who noticed his gaze.
“I concur with Malnor’s conclusion. My suggestion is we finalize our report to the sect as quickly as possible. It’s obvious we can not content against a sect. Who knows what else they have planned?”
Ava then spoke out loud her opinion while looking at Taf who was calm as always. He then looked at the fiery-haired Malgrey.
“What do you bring to the fold Malgrey?”
He aimed to allow Malgrey to have his say in the conversation.
” It’s obvious we are out of our depth. If it weren’t for some unforeseen variable we all might be dead.”
As Malgrey’s last words were spoken there was an awkward pause as all looked to May and Taf the ‘Unforeseen Variable’. Magrey then concluded,
“Therefore I agree with all that was said by my fellow squad leaders.”
After Malgrey had his say all looked to Taf. He was now the unofficial leader of all three squads. Whatever he decides seemingly carried the most weight.
“We have lost a significant amount of our members. In order to sustain our current numbers, we will move with haste as suggested by Ava.
Finalizing our reports to the sect then leaving as quickly as possible. I also feel though the mission is deemed complete there is a need to move as one unit until we have safely left the city.
If there is a need to revisit the city we will do so with the proper backing.”
Taf then paused while looking at all who hung to his every word before continuing,
“I still have my suspicions that there are other variables unaccounted for.
However, we will only provide the sect with the evidence gathered. Are there any objections to the way forward, squad leaders?”
His eyes scoured the room where he saw all the three squad leaders nodding their heads in agreements. Taf then concluded,
“Ok, let’s get to it then.”
After his last words were spoken all exited the room except for Taf and May. Seeing how fitting Taf was in his leadership role May could only smile as she looked at him.
He was usually so carefree that such things as being the main one in charge never truly seemed important. However, she knew he was a natural in the role.
“The way you’re staring at me, I dare say there is fear I will soon not have a face left when you’re done.”
Taf turned to look at May with a cheeky smile.
“Seeing you in this capacity is quite the sight. I say run for City Lord, how about it?”
May teased in response.
Hehe!
“Like they would dare allow me access to the City’s treasury. With the policies implemented in my reign, the Dark Abylis Sect would surely call for my head the first month.”
His words did cause May to laugh as they took one last look at the grand halls.
“How about we go for a walk. At this moment I think they can finalize the reports without us.”
As Taf spoke he looked outside where the city was buzzing as always. To this May nodded before cheekily saying,
” So you’ll buy me something significant with the qi stones you gathered, huh?”
“Why not a hard-working man must treat his lady to the finer things from time to time. I’ll get you whatever your heart desires.”
To this May smiled in glee while grabbing Taf’s hand as she led him out into the bustling city.
To be continued…
