The Gods Decree - Chapter 219 Release The Hounds
Elimination from a tournament for which such effort was placed is never an easy pill to swallow. This was the case for thousands deemed unfortunate to be bestowed this tag.
That remained the case for the three Lovren, Luke and Cameron. They had quickly left the bunker while ensuring there were no peaking eyes. Their time in the tournament might have ended but was the same case for the others?
Knowing the direction to their exit they swiftly make their exit.
“I wished we could have stayed a bit longer.”
Dejected by his elimination Lovren utter. Things were really looking up for him recently. He had a new girl and life was good.
Guess after a while life finds it’s true setting with him now being gifted from the clouds and brought back to land.
“It’s for the best. Why are you complaining anyway? Think about it. You placed 6667th in the last tournament. Now you are guaranteed to pass that milestone.”
Having reflected on the previous events the green-haired Luke returned to his usual demeanor. He was a ‘cup half full’ kind of guy. Still, Lovren ignored his words as he sighed.
Yet, to their sides Cameron’s mind went elsewhere. The two dismissed his silence as him once more reverting to his introvert personality. Without them realizing he subtle moved his hand in a bit to remove the hair thatbcovered his ear.
Merely a second after doing this he saw Lovren while in mid-stride flying from a vicious kick to his gut.
PUK!
He continuously spat blood unaware of what previously occurred. While clattered to the ground with his head on some cold dirt he saw Luke receive the same fate kicked through the air.
PLOP!
A tree bark showed signs of a massive dent as Luke was hunched over with blood oozing from his nose. Of the three Cameron was the only one who remained standing. He saw all unfold and the two in a flash were injured by two kick from one individual.
He was tall, blonde, and wore a smirk while his hands remained in his pocket. It happened so quickly Cameron could have blinked missing the whole thing.
“My apologies they seemed to have accidentally ran into my foot. Well with it being so dark such incidents can happen from time to time.” He casually spoke while eying the frozen Cameron like true prey.
From the shadows, Cameron saw five others appear. Each more famous than the next on the official rankings. Truly it was a startling revelation as he knew these characters were not of the same squad.
Perhaps this was their means of contending with the geniuses who tactically had waited until the morning to enter. This was what he assumed having seen one or two hurried alliances throughout the day.
Then he saw two who shattered this whole theory.
The Barker brother!
From their eyes, they were like two ravenous dogs, chained and starved for meat. By their eyes it appeared there was hate at the sight of him and his fellow squadmates for some reason. Which he found quite strange.
Cameron knew they had no prior disagreement. In fact, no one in his squad ever sought to have a conversation with the two except-
Taf!?
In mere moments he had deduced the reason behind the gathering. This meant currently the whole squad was in danger as the twins sought to gain their revenge on Taf.
“We are looking for a person. Tell me, little fellow, where is the one who calls himself Sir Mouse?”
Eto’o casually inquired of Cameron who was frozen in place like a deer in headlights.
“Oh, you all are searching for Taf. Currently, he has yet to make an appearance in the forest. Sorry for my seeming ignorance.
I should have known there was someone connection between him and strong individuals elder brother Eto’o, Jacob, Ferner, Marsh, Esker, and the Barkers (Aiden and Caden).”
He then greeted each person by name.
When he mentioned the Barkers. One of the brothers unsheathed their saber. In his ear, it was as though this worthless swine thought himself in the same league.
He truly was bloodthirsty and the mere fact this guy knew Taf made his blood boil.
Seeing his movement Eto’o casually raised his hand which caused Aiden to halt in his tracks. It seemed even in his blood fueled rage he would not dare go against the Eto’o orders.
“You’re quite smart aren’t you. Tell me how much of a head start do you think your compatriots have gained?”
While speaking there was a smile on Eto’o’s face as he addressed Cameron.
His words however startled the other five as they knew not why he spoke such things.
When did the squad receive any warning as to their impending doom? Cameron on the other hand was cursing within his mind.
He tried to be as discreet as possible with his actions but it was obviously partially seen through.
” I love a good chase. Hi Malnor, Ava, and Malgrey. Tik.., tok!
I’ll be seeing you soon.”
Cameron was nearly frightening out of his skin when he heard Eto’o whisper those words in his ear. He was right beside him and wore a grin on his face as though all was in his sphere of control.
This brought a bit of unease for Cameron. He tried to give his squad ahead start when he noticed something amiss about his surrounding.
So before anything went awry he had inconspicuously turned on his transmitter calling Malgrey.
Then when he knew the identity of the enemy ensured to call out each and every one of their names. Through this means the squad would know the strength of those who hunted them.
Cameron had hoped to give them further time but not all those blessed with strength are foolish. He was always told about this Eto’o’s cunning but now he got a first-hand glimpse for himself.
Soon the other members of the party caught on as Caden slowly made his way over to the Cameron. It was clear his intent as he held his saber with one hand cleaving down at Cameron’s feet.
This was the most frightening moment of Cameron’s life as he attempted the scream out in fear while closing his eyes. He then subconsciously fell backward in fright with his feet left exposed.
CLINK!
Startled Cameron opened his eyes and when looking down was surprised he still had those chicken legs of his. He half expected to be agonizing in pain as blood gushed down from a lonely stump.
“Are you completely daft? Or is stupidity in your vein?”
Eto’o questioned while two daggers stopped a saber a few inches from cleaving away at Cameron’s waist. He coldly stared into the eyes of Caden uncaring of his furious gaze.
Caden then angrily replied, “Why did you stop me? This little shit tried to play us all for fools.”
“… and mortally wounding him would only bring unnecessary attention to our presence. He is already eliminated as seen by his marker devoid of any color.”
With Eto’o words Caden looked on Cameron’s marker and this was indeed the case. If he were to then be mortally wounded after his elimination this would only send off red flares.
“Lucky bastard!”
Caden spat as he looked at the helpless Cameron. Soon he was helped to his feet by Eto’o who placed his hands around his shoulder. He then spoke these words,
“There are rules in the tournament. Yet if a person was to dig hard enough they will see the loopholes. I want you to imagine your fate if I was not to intervene. Now think of your friends in the same plight.”
He then pointed to the Barker brothers who had a baleful aura shrouding them. Cameron gulped as he realized what Eto’o implied.
They could torture his squadmates and not violated the rules of the tournament if death is not the end result.
“You’re smart possibly figuring out my end game, this Sir Mouse is all we after. You’ll be my little errand boy. I want you as quickly as possible to run for the exits.
Tell this mouse we are bored anticipating his arrival. Soon I will release the hounds. Using your squad to soothe our boredom in his absence.”
With his eyes, Eto’o subtle hinted for his men to hunt. The most excited of all being the barker twins. The baleful aura was unleashed vanishing before Cameron’s eyes. The last thing he heard was,
“Tik…, Tok!”
Now all that surrounded him was his two unconscious squadmates. He could only imagine the fate of the others if they were to finally meet their hunters. Especially those bloodthirsty twins who have now been released from their leashes.
Every moment he now wasted was time which the others could not afford. Hurriedly he tried to get the two who were incapacitated to their feet. In his mind, there were only two who could help at this juncture.
