The Grandbell Legacy - Chapter 45 Deans 2
Frae frowned. ‘Since when did Ci-ci have a fifth student? Who is this person?’
Of course, this supposed ‘Five’ character was Ci-ci, but he didn’t look back toward Frae. It was almost as though they were strangers.
Regardless of what it was that Ci-ci promised to Frae, to him, the most important thing was the Grandbell family’s legacy. In that vein, he kept many things to himself. To this day, Frae was unaware of where he lived despite Milana knowing. However, even more important than that, no one knew of the last gift his mother left for him, and as such, no one was aware of the fact he had the ability to change his appearance.
Ci-ci couldn’t say that he didn’t trust Frae. In fact, he did trust her and didn’t believe that she’d ever do anything to harm him. However, the people he trusted most in the world were either dead, or suffering from severe brain damage. The last person, the person he trusted unconditionally and the very most, was himself and himself alone.
“Who the hell are you?! How dare you come here?!” The Dean of the English department recollected himself first, embarrassed by his lack of initial response.
“Are you losing hearing in your old age? I told you, I’m Five.”
The Deans looked at this young man carefully. It wasn’t as though they could boast about knowing every student of Grandbell, that was impossible. However, each and every one of Ci-ci’s students were famous beyond belief. Even the weirdest of them all, Alex, was a leading member of the Junior Dream Initiative, a group next in line to lead the coming generations of space missions.
It was simply impossible for a student of Ci-ci’s to be unknown. It was too Odd.
No matter how they felt about Ci-ci, they’d be fools to believe that any of his students could be mediocre to the point of being unknown, even by them.
It obviously didn’t help that this young man’s appearance was not only overly casual, but almost excessively normal.
He wasn’t too ugly, nor was he too handsome. He wore a plain white T-Shirt with grey brandless sweatpants. To make matters worse, he actually strolled into their board meeting wearing flip flops!
To meet them, such esteemed members of the number one university of their continent, such pre-eminent members of the education field, in such attire How could they not feel disrespected?
Suddenly, the young man said something that infuriated them all the more.
“I’m flattered, truly flattered. You think so highly of my teacher that it’s inconceivable to you that I’m unknown? This is truly an honor.” The plain young man grinned, bowing for added effect.
Frae’s frown deepened.
One might wonder how she didn’t know about Ci-ci’s face changing ability. After all, she was the only one who knew about Ci-ci’s fake lawyer’s license.
However, there were many important points here. For one, Frae didn’t know exactly who the license was for. While, she knew that Ci-ci used her credentials as her father’s secretary to forge a license, the circumstances around it were a blur to her.
for visiting.
The Grandbell school system was designed specifically so that manipulations were impossible. After decades of school related scandals, the West Continent Government put in place numerous provisions that ensured absolute anonymity between students, their professors, and even heads of the universities and the government itself.
These laws, dubbed as the “Fair Schooling Act”, were put in place by President Kenyatta to appeal to the middle class and lower-class individuals to secure his third term in office. In direct consequence of them, rich families could no longer “buy” the education of their children.
One such provision of this law forced students to become nothing more than a code built alpha-numerically. Therefore, the name “Lucius Grant” never appeared in the school directory, neither was there a photo.
When a student went to take a test or any form of assessment, everything was handled by a computer that only recognized the specific DNA sequence of the student.
That was right. While Frae believed that Ci-ci simply forged a license for himself, it was only because she didn’t fully understand the technology behind the school’s security, or, rather, she had an almost blind faith in Ci-ci genius. It was impossible for Ci-ci to do something like that. Not with his current resources.
In reality, Ci-ci finished his lawyering studies to completion. It was just that he did so as Lucius Grant
So, the question everyone would have remaining is just how did Ci-ci do it?
Well how could Ci-ci’s mother, who was known as a medical saint and worshipped by doctors like Alice build a piece of technology? Was she an engineer? Or was she a medical saint? Was she both? How did this relate to her last gift to Ci-ci?
The answer was simple Ci-ci’s DNA and Lucius Grant’s DNA were completely different! Medical Saint might not be Aelinor Grandbell’s appropriate title It would be more apropos to title her as a Medical Goddess.
What she was able to accomplish was simple unprecedented It was to the point where the Grandbell family became too fearsome for the other families to accept But, that was a story for another day.
As for how Frae knew that it was specifically a lawyer’s license even with these safeguards, it was because she had a nearly Eidetic Memory when it came to numbers. This was why she was so good at administrative matters.
When she noticed an oddity, she immediately checked and noticed that there was an alpha-numeric code she didn’t recognize under Grandbell’s Law School branch.
“Don’t be so quick to anger.” Ci-ci strolled around nonchalantly. After he realized there were no available chairs, he leaped onto the table, sitting cross legged with a wide grin on his face.
‘He’s definitely eccentric enough to be Lucius’ student.’ Head Mortlock thought with a raised eyebrow. Still, his lip twitched slightly when he saw that this ‘Five’ character had actually sat with his back to him. Was he not the Headmaster here anymore?
“I’ll keep things short and simple. Our Grandbell University has never been all that great at sports since those Northern and Ocean Province Universities dominate that area, but what we do have is academics.
“I originally wasn’t planning on attending Grandbell after what you bastards did to my teacher, however, teach knew that my four seniors wouldn’t take your bullshit lying down. So, instead of convincing them, he sent me instead.
“I’ll be enrolling into Grandbell through the Interdisciplinary Studies program. As for my wishes, they are few and should be quite easy for you all to meet. If you meet them, I’ll agree to participate for every year from now on until you find a suitable replacement. If you don’t, well, good luck.” Five continued with a confident grin.
“Firstly, I’d like a free-ride scholarship to Grandbell. I don’t want to funnel anymore money into this corrupt shit hole.
“Secondly, I want an internship position with a salary of ten million WCD annually. Paid upfront, or else I won’t participate.
“Thirdly, I want the ability to choose your research teams from now on. Your shitty kids, nephews and nieces hardly deserve the positions they have. However, I’ll be nice. You can keep 50% of them, as for the other 50%, that will be chosen by me.
“Fourthly, I want the Cherry Rose Residency to myself, clear everyone out. Since they’re rich enough to stay there, they’re rich enough to find a new place to stay.
“Fifthly, I’d like to create a new Deanship. I have yet to workout all of the details, but, essentially, I’d like to take my teacher’s place and rebuild the legacy of Grandbell as it should be.
“There are only a few concessions I will make for you. One, I will never mention my relationship with my teacher. Two, I can guarantee that this isn’t some ploy by my teacher to infiltrate Grandbell. After all, he has his own aspirations while I have mine. If he really cared about Grandbell so much, he wouldn’t have done what he did. With his intelligence, do you believe that he didn’t know how you all would react?
“And three. I’ll allow you all to test my qualifications. How about it Mister and Misses Deans? Why don’t I show you all what a student of Ci-ci Bell is capable of?”
From start to finish, the Deans, men and women perfectly capable in their own right and very much used to leading large groups of individuals, were completely unable to speak. It was as though this ‘Five’ character had reached out and wrapped his hands around their hearts.
He was in complete control.
