The Greatest Sinner - Chapter 192
After a couple of minutes, Arve continued the lesson. He gave his students enough time to comprehend his words.
“If you want to learn how to create spells, you should start with the simplest thing: try changing the color of one of your spells. You can trust your intuition, or you can do some experiments, I think sooner or later you will succeed. This is only the first step, and it’s the easiest of all,” Arve said calmly.
“The next stage is to change some characteristic of one of your spells. You should understand that even this stage is incredibly difficult to get to, by the way, it is where I am at the moment.”
These words surprised every student. Arve was known as one of the few teachers of the fourth rank. Moreover, he was one of the strongest mages in the entire Academy. Only then did the students truly begin to understand how difficult it was to create spells.
Arve’s “Warp” spun, and he began casting some kind of spell.
“Recently, I’ve made some progress and was able to make changes to “Magic Missile.” Everyone knows this spell, it’s a straight beam of mana that explodes when it touches something. But, I managed to change its trajectory, to be honest, it took a huge amount of time,” Arve said slowly and pointed his hand toward the ceiling.
The next moment a snow-white beam flew out toward the ceiling, but it was not straight, it was a zigzag. This was the first time the students saw something like this.
The beam reached the ceiling, but there was no explosion. There was a barrier in the classroom, which could easily absorb the damage from the zero-level spell.
It is worth noting that the “Transforming of Spells” was fundamentally different from spell casting. Arve had changed the very structure of the spell by making the beam fly in a zigzag instead of a straight line. In the “Transforming of Spells”, the magician could only change one of three characteristics, depending on the stage of “Awareness.”
Arve calmly said: “Of course, the fact that the beam became zigzagging won’t help me in combat anyway, and I don’t think it can be used in practice. But, if you won’t be able to do that, you shouldn’t dream of ever creating your spell.”
He adjusted his glasses and continued: “After the second stage, there is the third one, the final- the creation of the spell. You should realize one thing. After you have learned how to modify the simple spells as you like, you can try to create your own. As for me, I have a lot to learn myself, and I may never be able to create my own spell.”
Arve spent the next half hour answering the students` questions, giving them advice on how to complete the first stage successfully and what direction they should move. When the lesson was over, all the students went away, only Evan was left in the classroom.
He was surprised that the creation of spells was similar in many aspects to demon’s sigils.
<Sounds like creating your own spell will be very difficult, but I have no rush now. I can devote quite a lot of time to this activity. I wonder, among the thousands of the books, there wasn’t a single one that said anything about making spells. Until I’m as strong as Arve, I won’t be able even to change the characteristics of my spells, is it really that?>
Evan had been pondering for a while and then decided to go home. He couldn’t know that for sure but believed that the books that would have some information about spell-creating were below the fourth floor.
It didn’t matter, though. Evan knew that Arve was right in saying that you have to work your own way up in this field. How could Evan create a new spell if he would just use the labors of other magicians?
Nevertheless, Evan had one idea he wanted to test. When he returned home, he went down to the underground floor and drew a sigil of 71st demon – Duke Dantalion.
After activating the sigil, the young man entered “Nirvana” and wished to learn how to create spells, but the book answered with one word, “Impossible.”
Evan frowned and tried the sigil of the second level. He wished the same thing from the stronger demon’s essence, but the answer didn’t change. This surprised Evan, he hadn’t expected the task to be this difficult.
<Damn it, it took me a first-level sigil and only 15 years of life to awaken a talent for magic. Yet the demon’s essence summoned by the second level sigil tells me it’s impossible?>
It would be one thing if the demon had named Evan’s life as a price. But, the demon wouldn’t even name the price of that service.
Evan wasn’t upset or saddened, though. If a subject was of interest to him, he could easily spend years of his life studying it.
<Okay, maybe it’s even for the best. There’s something else I need to check out. Evan thought and turned to the book floating in the middle of space.
He wanted to know what his Class was and what type of Magic he was most prone to, but the demon answered nothing again. Evan had no choice but to sigh in frustration and call the demon off. He decided that in time he would find out it for himself. All he had to do was to train and increase his “Awareness.”
“Before I go deeper into training and spell making, I have one more thing left to complete.” Mumbled Evan and headed toward the Academy.
He had already reached “One-Pointed Star,” which meant it was time to choose new spells.
There were separate rooms in the library with only spell books. Last time, when Evan was saving all the books in the library in his mind, he hadn’t gone there.
It would have been strange if he had gone through all the spell books that were there in a few minutes. To know if a spell was right for you or not, you had to take some time and read about it and its effects, not just look at the title of the book. What’s more, it wouldn’t have made any sense. To master a spell, you had to take the time to practice it, not just know the book’s content.
Evan didn’t know what type of magic he had the greatest predisposition for, so he decided to choose the spells he liked. Regardless of their type of magic.
At that moment, Evan liked the “Summoning Magic” spells the least. He understood that they were great for team combat or immobilizing his opponent. However, most of the” Summoning Magic” spells couldn’t be destructive enough to decide the outcome of a fight.
Of course, that didn’t mean the Summoners were weaker than the others. They were better than the other Classes in team fights and were excellent support. Moreover, they were quite capable of standing up for themselves.
As Evan watched the battles in the arena, he was amazed to see that the Summoner had defeated the Amplifier. The young man simply could not defeat the two Golems the Summoner had summoned.
Powerful Summoners could defeat their enemies by summoning powerful creatures to help them, but Evan didn’t like to rely on anyone.. He wanted to destroy his enemies with his own hands, and the best spells for that purpose were the “Amplification Magic” and “Creation Magic.”
