The Greatest Sinner - Chapter 212
“What is it?” Malespera asked, puzzled.
“It is a spell book, if you study it, you will be able to use the spell written about in this book. You have just awakened your talent for magic, and you are still a novice, so I gave you one of the easiest spells. If we take our time, we’ll be out of this area in about two hours. By then, you should be able to cast this spell. Don’t worry, most people only take one hour, you’ll have a lot more time.” Evan said calmly.
The spell he gave Malespera was called – “Doomsday Flame.” In Evan’s opinion, it was the strongest spell of level zero Creation Magic. But it was also the most difficult of all the spells in the library.
Evan did not study this spell since he didn’t need the level zero spells anymore. Only level one spells were of value to him.
Of course, he fooled Malespera. It was almost impossible to master this spell in such a short time. But, Evan wanted to test how talented this girl was. Usually, a mage’s talent was measured by the color of his Warp. But, there were always exceptions to those rules moreover, Evan knew nothing about “Warp,” the crimson color.
Except for him, Malespera was the only person with “Warp,” that color. Thanks to the girl, Evan would be able to test his hunches and get answers to his questions, but perhaps the mysteries would only get more.
“Magic…will I be able to become as strong as you?”
“Yes, but not right away. Just try, and you will succeed, but now stay focused. If someone attacks us, I’ll deal with them.” Evan answered, stepping forward.
The girl nodded and opened the black book as she went. By Evan’s calculations, he could learn this spell in about 12 hours. That was a tremendous amount of time, considering that “Doomsday Flame” was a level zero spell.
Malespera was fascinated by the process. A fire burned in her eyes, just like Evan’s when he had studied the spell the first time. The book wasn’t very big, it could well be read in one hour, but Malespera needed a little more time.
It was about 30 minutes before they got out of The Hills of Bloody Falls. Malespera had already finished reading the book and handed it back to Evan.
“Are you sure you don’t need it anymore?” Evan asked, puzzled. Even he couldn’t be sure he could remember all the details and nuances of such a complicated spell in an hour and a half.
“Well, yeah,” Malespera replied as if Evan were asking strange questions. Evan shrugged and moved the book into the spatial ring.
“Hey Evan, I’m ready, but where do I cast this spell?” Malespera asked, puzzled. She didn’t want to harm the forest and the fields.
“Are you ready? Well… okay. Hmm, I have an idea who you can use Doomsday Flame on.” Evan muttered and cast “Ghost Step.”
He quickly disappeared from Malespera’s sight and returned half a minute later, but he was dragging some monster of rank zero behind him. Such monsters were no match for Evan now.
This monster would be a living dummy for Malespera. Evan didn’t believe that the girl would be able to cast the spell the first time after spending only an hour and a half to learn it. But, if she did, Malespera would feel the power of magic. It would be a very vivid emotion that would help her further advance, she would know what she was aiming for.
Crack.
Evan broke the monster’s legs and threw it in front of the girl, he calmly said, “Come on.”
Malespera only nodded. Earlier she had been frightened if she saw such a creature, but today had changed her outlook.
Her “Warp,” spun and she began to accumulate mana. This surprised Evan since he hadn’t explained to her how to do it. Malespera understood it intuitively.
Next, she began to create a spell. Unlike Evan, she didn’t act in a measured and precise manner, Malespera immediately poured all her strength into one single attempt.
Purple flames appeared next to the monster and instantly turned into a sphere that exploded seconds later. The tremendous power of the flame and the destructive force of the explosion tore the monster to pieces.
“Not bad,” Evan said calmly.
<Sounds like this girl is the genius of geniuses. But, here’s the exciting thing. Did she originally have this talent or acquired it when she got her crimson “Warp.” What’s more, I wonder what her Class is? Maybe crimson “Warp” has something to do with it, and I can learn more about it from her example. I still don’t know anything about this strange kind of “Warp.”>
Evan thought as he looked at the contented girl. She was in a real thrill, she was enjoying killing this monster immensely. But, it wasn’t the act of violence itself that pleased her, it was the fact that she did it with magic.
“Is that what magic is?”
“Yes, the power to change destiny. If we weren’t magicians, he would have killed us. But, now, he was nothing more than a mere dummy.”
“Then…I want more!” Malespera said loudly.
Evan shook his head and said, “You need mana to cast spells, moreover you need to be properly trained. You’ve made quite a bit of progress as it is.”
Malespera looked at Evan puzzled, “What? But it’s so easy, look!”
“Warp,” the girl spun, and the next moment a purple flame appeared to the left and right of a boulder not far from Evan. It quickly turned into a sphere, and there were two deafening explosions.
<It looks like… either I’m unlucky with my body, or there’s someone in this world who is superior to geniuses.> Thought Evan stunned as he looked at Malespera.
She was a genius, Evan was well aware of that, but everything in this world has its flaws.
<She uses magic as if she were doing everyday things. Perhaps it was all because of her talent, or perhaps it was because she had never heard of what magic was until today.>
Everyone in this world knew of the existence of mages and magic. Everyone knew how powerful magicians were and how complex magic was, and it was indeed true. But perhaps to use spells, one had to treat it not as some challenge but as a regular activity? That was exactly what Malsepera was doing, albeit unconsciously.
<She will be a powerful mage and an excellent fighter, she will be unrivaled in combat, but I am sure she will not understand a damn thing about experiments and experiments. She’s not a scientist, she’s a warrior.> Evan concluded.
“Evan, do you have any other spells?” The girl asked with genuine curiosity.
“Yeah, here you go, I think by the time we get to town, you’ll have mastered this spell.” Said Evan and handed Malespera the book of spells – “Magic Missile.”
It was the simplest spell. It was about ten minutes before they left the grounds of The Hills of Bloody Falls.
After five minutes, the girl asked: “Evan, why are these books so big? Isn’t there just enough of these?”
Malespera pointed her finger at an image of a magic circle. If a mage was experienced and talented enough, he could learn a spell from his magic circle, but it wasn’t easy. No newcomer to the world should have had such skills.
“What do you mean?” Said Evan guessing what the girl was talking about.
“Why take the time to read the whole book if this drawing is enough, it’s clear enough. Do you really think I’m too stupid and that’s why you give me children’s books! Here’s how I can do it!”
Malespera put her hand out in front of her and rolled three “Magic Missiles” in a row a second later.
