The Greatest Sinner - Chapter 306
After an unknown amount of time, Evan had finally dealt with all the demons and angels. This battle seemed endless to him. He killed demons and angels time after time, after which they revived and increased in number. They were like immortal hydra. But, even such a creature had its limit.
In total, Evan killed over a million angels and demons. He used a wide variety of techniques to exterminate them. Over time, he even began to run out of imagination. After all, this fight was not difficult. His opponents didn’t stand a chance of even hurting Evan.
The biggest problem with this fight was that it was drawn out and boring. Evan froze them, burned them, tore them apart, crushed them. It was impossible to list all the ways he killed them.
“Eh, it’s finally over. I hope I didn’t go through the ordeal too long.” Mumbled Evan.
It seemed to him that at least ten hours had passed. But, in the real world, no more than ten seconds had passed. That was the difference between the two worlds. However, this kind of thing only happened when Evan was going through this ordeal. It was one of the effects of his power that changed the rules of space.
Evan waved his hand, and the same gray door with purple edges appeared in front of him. When Evan saw it again, he realized that it was very similar in color to the chaos energy his body was emitting. In a mighty Splash, his energy was not only gray but also purple.
He opened the door and walked through it. Simultaneously, all the magic circles over the pool were destroyed, and Evan slowly emerged from the dark water. He was a mage and was at the stage – Three-Pointed Star, so he had no problem holding his breath for more than an hour. This was no problem for him.
“So, how did I do?” Evan realized that Hugo couldn’t see what happened in that space. But, he was sure Hugo had his own ways of knowing how well Evan had performed.
“Top notch.” Hugo calmly replied and wrote something down in his notebook.
Evan didn’t see it, but Hugo, next to Evan’s name, wrote just one letter, “S.” It was the highest score a contestant could get at all. This meant that no matter how difficult or important the mission, Evan could take part in it. There were no barriers for him, and his potential was challenging to determine.
Hugo had once been rated the same way. Moreover, most of the members of the Demonic Tree in Castle Rave had a grade – “S.”
Evan smiled, he liked that Demonic Tree didn’t restrict the actions of its full members in any way, except for one exception. If he got a low grade, he would be denied some assignments for safety reasons. In some ways, this restricted his actions, but it was logical and fair in other ways. But, Evan wasn’t willing to accept even that compromise. So when he learned that he had received the top score, he was pleased.
“Now I’m a full member of Demonic Tree. Right?” Evan asked. It was actually a rhetorical question.
Hugo smiled, and his spatial ring glowed. A red robe of ebony appeared in his hands, which he handed to Evan.
“Evan, we have no rules requiring our members to walk in a red robe in our territories, but to avoid any problems, I suggest you walk in a robe,” Hugo said calmly.
Evan nodded. He saw nothing wrong with walking around in their robes at the Demonic Tree base. What’s more, Evan was now officially a member of the organization.
As Evan caught the mantle, he felt a strange aura begin to emanate from Hugo. It wasn’t hostile or friendly. It was like a lighthouse sensor.
“Surprised?” Asked Hugo and said, “The robes of Demonic Tree members are not ordinary. I knew you were coming a long time ago, so I prepared some robes for you. I didn’t think you’d get this particular one.”
Evan was puzzled. He didn’t understand what Hugo meant.
“Evan, how do you think members of dark organizations know that they are allies and not enemies? Sure, you could say that by their robes or because they know each other by sight. But, it’s not safe to wear the robes of dark organizations everywhere, and you can’t know what all the members of the Demonic Tree look like.” Hugo said calmly.
“I see. When I touched this robe, a special spell was activated. Now I can feel the special aura that emanates from all members of the Demonic Tree and me. But is it safe? Anyone else can touch the mantle and activate the spell.” Asked Evan.
Hugo shook his head, “It’s not that simple. This spell, on this particular mantle, only you could activate it. I needed a piece of you to set up the spell like that, but Rave kindly presented me with your hair. That was enough. He’s pretty greedy and didn’t want to give up a drop of your blood.”
<I didn’t even notice when he did it…> thought Evan.
“Also, look at the ebony image on your robe. Demonic Tree members have slightly different robes. Look at the roots of the tree. There are seven roots on your mantle. That’s the maximum. The minimum is one. It all depends on your grade during this ordeal.” Hugo explained.
Evan nodded. This kind of system was quite handy. The mage could tell at a glance how safe a particular task would be for a mage, within his stage, of course.
“I have one more question. Does this spell work as long as the mantle is on me, or is that optional?” Evan asked.
“It doesn’t matter. The spell is already activated, and it will be very difficult to remove it. Even if you lose the mantle, an aura will continue to emanate from you that only members of the Demonic Tree can feel. This spell was created personally by the head of the Demonic Tree, so even the strongest light mages cannot recognize this aura..” Pronounced Hugo.
