The Greatest Sinner - Chapter 314
Evan immediately used Mammon’s Gaze. A menacing aura emanated from this snake. Evan felt that he was weaker, despite all his enhancements. This snake looked like an ancient creature. Its mere sight put a tremendous amount of pressure on Evan.
[Jade Serpent
Race – Beast
Rank – 2, three flames on the platform
Warp – White]
The Jade Serpent was at the same stage as Ein, but this beast was much stronger. Even its size would terrify anyone who encountered it. He was one of the strongest creatures in the Glass Forest.
The Rainbow Bugs came to the aid of their fellows, but the Jade Serpent came because he smelled death and the sounds of battle.
The serpent’s amber eyes looked at Evan, and then the serpent shifted its gaze to the hundreds of corpses of bugs beside him. A gleam flashed in the serpent’s eyes, and his gaze changed.
Before that, the serpent had thought Evan was a simple, weak mage caught in this forest. He wanted to snack on him and find a suitable opponent. But when he saw what Evan had done to such powerful monsters as the Rainbow Bugs, he changed his mind.
Now he wanted to fight Evan as a serious opponent, not eat him.
<Hmm? This snake is acting kind of weird. It won’t attack and seems to be waiting for something>. Evan thought, looking at the beast.
After a couple of seconds, the Jade Serpent started hissing at Evan, but for some reason, he felt like the serpent was hissing at someone else. Evan didn’t sense that the serpent felt any aggression toward him.
But, it didn’t take long for the answer. Suddenly Reykar got out of Evan’s Nirvana and flew aside. He was not afraid of the serpent and did not leave Evan. He sat on a branch of one crystal tree and calmly watched them as if he were a spectator.
<Wait a minute, is this serpent challenging me, hmmm… what am I supposed to do?>
He was looking for a riding, flying beast to get out of the Glass Forest and back to the tower. But, such a huge and strong serpent was also not a bad option, at least for now. Evan, however, was not happy that the serpent had challenged him.
<Fuck, it’s not the Glass Forest. It’s the Damned Forest. This is the third time I’ve been in a dangerous battle in less than an hour. If I hadn’t come here when I heard the sounds of fighting, though, probably nothing would have happened. But now I’m not so sure that I would have won, but I don’t seem to have any other choice.> Evan thought.
He couldn’t fight the Jade Serpent. It was impossible and unprofitable for several reasons. If Evan tried to run away, the serpent would catch up with him, and they would still have to fight. But in that case, the Jade Serpent would disobey Evan even if he lost. After all, Evan would show by his actions that he was a coward, and the beast would not obey such a man.
But Evan wasn’t sure of his victory because it would be a duel, not a fight to the death. The serpent probably wouldn’t kill him. But, before that, he would inflict incompatible wounds, and the other monsters would finish him off. What’s more, there was no guarantee that the serpent would let Evan live.
<It turns out my only option is to fight him, defeat him, and get out of this damn place. That’s too bad…>
Evan was relieved to think that such a powerful beast would obey him if he won. But, Evan understood that in the worst case scenario, he would have to spend more than 200 or even more than 300 years to win.
“Eh, sometimes failure costs too much, though perhaps I was lucky. It’s hard to understand in this situation.” Evan muttered and looked thoughtfully at the serpent.
“I accept your challenge, but before I do, I want to know something. I can use my weapons and any spell I know, right?”
The Jade Serpent only hissed briefly.
Evan could only use his strength. If he fought the beast relying on spell scrolls or magical artifacts, there was no way the beast would obey him, even if he lost. Moreover, no one was to interfere in their battle. Even Reykar had to leave them one-on-one. Otherwise, the Jade Serpent would have become enraged and attacked them both.
But, Evan could use his weapons and spells, for to a mage, it was the same as strong scales and sharp fangs to a serpent.
The Spatial ring glowed, and Magma Blood appeared in his hands. The serpent prepared to attack, but Evan stopped it with a gesture of his hand. Evan needed to prepare first, and the beast could give Evan time to do so.
Evan bled himself and drew a sigil on his hand. This sigil would be his trump card, costing him several hundred years. He wouldn’t use it until the last moment, but if his life were on the line, he would have no other option.
Evan swung his scythe, and the weapon was instantly covered in dark energy. Evan released his entire aura, showing that he was ready for battle.
The Jade Serpent did the same, and the next moment the huge beast turned into a blur.
It attacked Evan with incredible force. Evan barely blocked this attack with the hilt of his scythe, but the serpent had no intention of stopping.
The beast continued to ram Evan until he rammed him into the nearest rock. This attack did little or no damage to Evan, but he was now in a bad position. Immediately after the previous attack, the serpent attacked again.
It swung its tail and shattered the rock into small pebbles. It was destroyed. The serpent’s attack should have hit Evan as well, but he managed to dodge at the last moment.
Evan tried to attack, but no sooner had he taken a step than the snake’s tail struck him in the stomach with lightning speed. Evan was thrown aside like a ball and broke several trees in flight.
“Damn, that was harder than I thought.. Defeating that snake would be an excellent result.”
