The Guardians’ Throne – The First Magic Swordsman - Chapter 453
Zaos wanted to surprise those freaks, so he decided to hold back a little bit and then caught them off guard. While doing that was easier said than done given that they lived probably three or four times longer than him, wisdom comes with age… so does arrogance.
When Darkaun dashed toward him, Zaos held his sword to block the attack, but at the moment, he enhanced his sword with Earth magic and swung it toward the demon’s head. Darkaun used his left arm to block the strike and felt his flesh getting smashed, but his other arm still hit Zaos’ stomach. However, Darkaun felt some Resistance alongside the armor. Zaos was sent flying for ten meters only and then landed on his feet as nothing had happened. Even though his stomach was hurting like hell, he didn’t break any bones. Regardless, before he could catch his breath, the dark bolts began to fall again. However, Zaos once again dodged them by sidestepping. He almost could see the two demons clicking their tongues in annoyance… While the distance granted the chance to dodge even Thunder Blade, the same thing could be said for Zaos. Still, it looked like they were satisfied in just playing a support role as long as Zaos fell.
As if he was a broken recorder, Darkaun dashed toward Zaos again. Dodging this time wasn’t an option since Zaos was in front of a house, and he could feel some presence inside it. While clicking his tongue, he prepared for the unavoidable… he swung down his sword toward the head of the beast again, and when Darkaun blocked the attack, he made the mistake of using the same arm, thanks to that, when Zaos was hit, he also pierced the same wound that he had caused before.
Darkaun frowned while Zaos was spinning in the air since the power of Zaos’ attack had increased, and the wound on his arm had increased unnaturally fast. He didn’t feel Zaos’ mana increasing or getting tenser around his body, so he couldn’t understand what had happened. While Darkaun was wondering what had happened, Zaos was the one who dashed toward him and thrust his sword toward his neck. Darkaun tried to grab his weapon since Guardian’s Heart was trouble, but when he held the tip, he felt the sword easily piercing his skin. When he ignored the pain, the weapon easily passed through his hand, and Darkaun jumped backward to escape since he couldn’t see anything different in the weapon.
What Zaos was doing differently this time was focusing his raw mana at some points in the blade and making it pierce the demon’s flesh. Darkaun didn’t notice that because Zaos was using the blind spots of the demon… he only enhanced the parts of the sword the demon couldn’t see. Since he was just a brute, he couldn’t feel the mana, and since his allies were far away, they couldn’t feel it either. However, before Zaos could use the momentum in his favor, the dark bolts began to rain down again and stopped his advance, forcing him to sidestep. They didn’t know what was happening, but they knew that Darkaun couldn’t be left alone against Zaos.
While they were buying time, Darkaun closed his wounds with his dark aura. Zaos was already expecting something like that to happen, so he didn’t let that annoy him. Besides, those two above him were bound to run out of mana sooner than later while they used their mana like idiots… or at least that was what Zaos wanted to believe in.
When his wounds closed, Darkaun dashed toward Zaos again, but this time he was showing a weird glint on his eyes. Zaos only noticed what he was planning when he swung his sword toward his eyes, but he didn’t even flinch or try to protect them… Zaos slashed his sword and blinded him, but at the same time, he got hit by two quick and successive uppercuts that sent him flying much higher than before and made him lose all the air in his lungs.
“Not good…” Zaos thought while imagining that he couldn’t use his speed in the air.
Zaos forcefully used wind magic to turn his body in the air and make him look toward Tynessa and Zargoroth, and he did so in time to see their attacks approaching. Zaos wished that he could learn how to fly at that moment, but he wasn’t that skilled, so the only thing he managed to do was fire a gust of wind toward himself that sent him back to the ground. The impact made him feel the bones of his shoulders cracking, but at last, he dodged the upcoming dark bolts and as well sent him back to the ground.
Tynessa and Zargoroth were left speechless since they didn’t think that Zaos would be able to dodge that… while he wasn’t as graceful and skilled as their master, he still could do a lot more than any mages they had met in their lifetimes, even though he didn’t belong to their tribe, Zaos’ skills far surpassed of their best mages… with the sole exception of the demon god. Perhaps he had even more talent since he had only lived for twenty years and developed techniques that were completely surreal to all of them…
While they were in shock, Zaos dashed toward Darkaun, who was trying to heal his eyes with the dark aura, but Zaos wouldn’t wait for that to happen. Killing him now with Thunder Armor would be easy, but catching those two in the air won’t be that easy. Most likely, they will escape. So, Zaos had to keep fighting and wait until they were unable to fly. Zaos dashed toward Darkaun and tried to behead him, but the demon used his arms to block the strikes aimed at his head. In the end, Zaos decided to strike his legs and make him lose mobility and blood. While clenching his teeth and hands, he prepared to do so….
