The Guardians’ Throne – The First Magic Swordsman - Chapter 467
Several hours passed, and the group managed to read all the scrolls that Ameria had found in months that mentioned the demon god. It was impossible that she had found all of the scrolls that mentioned him, so they needed to keep searching in the library. However, the sun was already rising, and Zaos had to consider his allies that he left outside.
“What now?” Zaos asked after crossing his arms. “Are you going to keep checking if I am telling the truth, or are you going to keep trying to kill me? Five hundred of my mercenaries died because of Drannor’s plans, but I am not in place to complain since I fell for his trap and he has reasons to kill me. Still, I won’t take any other attack lightly.”
Dalyor was a bit inclined to believe in what Zaos told. His family didn’t accumulate hundreds of scrolls over the last three thousand years out of fear of the demon god for nothing. Considering that he almost conquered the world once, it wasn’t hard to believe that he could manipulate living beings while he was dead… the fact that his followers have gained a lot of power ten years ago was evidence of that. As for Laiex and Drian, they were a lot more suspicious of Zaos. In their heads, he had ten years to come up with a crazy story like that in case he lost Milliendra and tried to recover her… Laiex knew that the Guardian’s Heart was the sword that one of the two humans used to defeat the demon god, the first head of the Sielders family. Only someone worthy could wield it… still, he was thinking that Zaos had just found a way to unseal it with magic.
“… I will need insurance,” Dalyor said. “I will contact Drannor and tell him not to do anything reckless and protect Milliendra right now… only if you return to us your equipment. You will be able to move around the town incognito and keep doing this research until we confirm the truth.”
“What is the point of that? I won’t need that sword and armor to fight… that weapon is something that can only help me against the demons,” Zaos said. “See?”
Zaos used Thunder Armor and then disappeared with his speed. In the next moment, he reappeared while holding Laiex and Drian’s swords. While Zaos didn’t mind, doing what Dalyor asked was virtually useless. It was an waste of time for both parts, but in the end…
“I read in one of those scrolls the power of your sword,” Dalyor said. “It can drain all the mana of the foes killed by you and turn it into your mana. It sometimes even strengthens you. I can’t risk you using my citizens to increase your own power.”
“As if the sword would accept someone who would do that as its master…” Zaos frowned. “Still, I suppose we all need to compromise here. Can you go and bring my gear alongside everyone else, Aleni? I want to keep going here for a while longer.”
“Okay,” Aleni said.
With Aleni’s speed, experience, and the ring Zaos gave her, she was virtually invincible as long as she had some magic stones. Besides, Zaos truly wanted to save time… any information that he could find about the demon god might change the future of the world since he was someone who had unrivaled talent in magic, and he knew more things about him than any other.
Regardless, Dalyor agreed to bring to the city Zaos’ group that was traveling with him. While they wouldn’t be able to help with the research, they had other things for them to do. Just as promised, Aleni and the others returned at night, and they seemed unharmed. After delivering his gear to the king, Zaos asked to get the money he left at home. Once his subordinates grabbed the bags filled with gold coins, they walked around town buying the best gear they could and some magic stones as well. After that, he taught them how to turn that equipment into magic items that could heal them. After listening to them, Dalyor recognized that the ring that improved his and his wife’s health was something that had been crafted by Zaos… even though Elius was the one who gave them those.
“I bet Nyana and Melisse can help with this,” Zaos said while looking around the near endless numbers of scrolls. “Why don’t you call Cohnal as well, father? He won’t feel lonely that way…”
“You sure have some nerve…” Laiex clenched his teeth in anger.
“While we don’t respect each other, we still are father and son,” Zaos said. “Would you like it more if I were you to call you by your name?”
That would be even more disrespectful… In any case, Laiex decided to do that since he couldn’t imagine them finishing checking all the scrolls in a year, even if they lock themselves in there. Asking some guards to do that and reveal the library’s location wasn’t the best option, so Laiex went and called them himself. As one would expect, those three were left speechless when they saw Zaos and Aleni inside the library.
“… I give up… I can’t understand what is real and what isn’t,” Cohnal said. “Just what the hell is going…”
“The situation changed for the time being,” Laiex declared. “Until we confirm certain things about the demon god and Milliendra, we will put aside his crimes.”
“You heard him, now stop gawking and then open the scrolls and keep looking for any mention of the demon god,” Zaos said. “By the way, did you already send a message to Drannor? We can’t let him mess up now, he is too short-tempered… I can’t blame him though.”
Drannor had the king sword, so he might put up a good fight against those that might try to kidnap Milliendra, but as long as he remain in the dark, the less he will be able to do.
