The Heiress - Chapter 21
Hui Yin slowly blinked her eyes open, she carefully observed her surroundings. Smelling the faint scent of disinfectant.
‘I am in the hospital..?’
She slowly sat up on the bed, feeling slightly dizzy, she tried to recall what happened. As soon as she did, she pressed the button beside her bed to call for a nurse.
“wa..ter” Hui Yin croaked. The nurse gave her a glass of water with a straw to help her. Soon, she felt the coolness of the water slowly slipping down her throat, hydrating her.
“Good morning Miss?”
“Hu…Anna, Anna Lin”
“My name is Belinda, your attending nurse, let me call the doctor for you first, Ms. Anna” the nurse paged the doctor and while they waited, Belinda asked her a few questions
“Ms. Anna-” the nurse politely started
“Anna will do” she interrupted her “how is the boy?”
“okay, Anna, the boy was discharged the day of the accident, he only had a light gash on his knee, he kept coming here to visit you while you were unconscious. How do you feel?”
“I feel fine. It was just a mild bump, resulting to a mild concussion I presume? How many days was I out?”
“ah..? two days. Are you perhaps…a nurse as well?”
“No, I’m a licensed doctor”
“oh…” just as she was about to ask another question, the door swung open and a man in his late 30’s came in. A white lab coat hanging on both shoulders, a stethoscope on his neck.
” Hello Anna” he said as he warmly smiled at her
“Derek, may I be discharged now?”
“you are still the same way as before” he laughed. “not even bothering to ask me how I’ve been?”
“how are you?”
“I’m fine, you aren’t though. While it is true that you have a mild concussion, the bruises you have on both arms and your left leg is beyond that. You have a sprained ankle as well, this would make it hard to walk”
“how many days?”
“a week, two at most.” he sighed “really, you have a knack for saving kids on streets, you did that most of the time as well” the nurse who looked at them confused suddenly cleared her throat, causing both heads to turn to her.
“uhmm Dr. Derek, what…should I do?” she felt out of place as she watched the two converse. Belinda was surprised that the both of them knew each other
“ahem, Belinda, meet Anna Lin, the prodigious doctor who was famed for operating on the president of Kentucky in an hour, saving him from death’s door”
“YOU’RE THE ANNA LIN?!?!??” she squealed in excitement but once she did, she immediately blushed “I’m so sorry, Ms. Anna, I was just shocked”
“it’s fine” Hui Yin said as she glared at Derek, who was smiling brightly at her.
“you may get out now” he said. The nurse who had gotten the shock of her life scurried out of the VIP room, a good gossip awaiting her colleagues
“that never gets old” he laughed “now, how have you been?”
“I’m working as a secretary now”
“of all jobs to take? A secretary? You were given a chance to be the personal attending physician for the president but you declined, it was a damning good bucks you know?!??”
“I like to explore”
“explore?? what explore? jobs?” he laughed “rich people”
“as if you aren’t rich yourself” she muttered
“that’s because I’m so great in the field” Derek triumphantly said
“where’s my phone?”
” here, what brand is that? That’s a good phone, it didn’t break under the tires” he complemented
“it’s….a secret” just as he was about to complain, both of them heard a knock on the door as it opened
“Good Day Ms. Lin” a man in a grey suit stood in front of her bed ” I am your lawyer, Edmund Burkley. The lawsuit has been filed, we only need your consent to charge and the man will go to jail, regardless whether you sue or not, the family if the boy will not let the perpetrator go. The family would also like to compensate you for your injuries”
” Can I bother you to explain the situation?”
“sure thing, Ms. Lin” he said as she nodded to Derek and he got her message, quietly retreating from the room
” The boy you saved was the son of the president of the Ling Group International Airport. The driver of the speeding car, was someone who was hired to target the boy. They are pressing charges against him and you doing the same would strengthen the case and would give the criminal a 15 years sentence in jail. I have communicated with the Ling family on my way here, informing them you woke up. They are on their way here as of now.”
“okay, then Mr. Edmund, allow me to bother you once again to file a lawsuit against the driver. Please tell the Ling family that I apologize but I am resting and would not like to receive guests and that I will not be receiving compensation as I did this on my own free will. If that is all, then please excuse me, I would like to rest my head.”
“alright, Ms. Lin” Edmund Burkley headed outside the door
She was about to fall asleep but she heard a loud wail of a child and the sound of her door swinging open.
“mommy!!!!” the boy cried
