The Heiress - Chapter 23
“Hello?”
“Good afternoon, Mr. Cheng. I’m sorry for not being able to answer your calls for the past two days. I would like to ask for a week leave as I am currently recuperating in the hospital. Do you need me for something Mr. Cheng?” finally..he finally heard her sweet calming voice…but..
“you’re sick?” Cheng Ming-ha worriedly asked
“no Mr. Cheng, I got into a car accident”
“who?” his voice hid the anger he felt once he heard it but it didn’t stop the room from turning cold as his frosty eyes glazed over.
“it has been dealt with Mr. Cheng. Do you need me for anything, Sir?” she asked again.
This woman really didn’t want him to do anything?
“which hospital?” he asked, ignoring her question
“Grace Angels Hospital, Mr. Cheng”
“are you hungry?”
“hmmm…I guess I am?”
“which room?”
“VIP floor, room 104”
“what do you want to eat?”
‘what is this? an interview?’ she thought “hospital meals”
“Don’t eat that. Wait for me”
“There’s no need to bother with that Mr. Ch–” before she could finish, Cheng Ming-ha ended the call.
‘I guess he really never listens when he wants to do something huh?’ she thought as she let her thoughts wander to the past..
“What upset you, grandpa Fei?” Hui Yin asked as she poured earl grey tea on Old Cheng’s favorite antique porcelain tea cup.
“that grandson of mine who else ah??!?”
“what did he do this time?” she chuckled. Hearing Cheng Ming-ha’s stories as they both grew older made her feel different emotions. It interested her..too bad I can’t meet with him yet..
“he’s too stubborn for his own good. Today, this old grandpa of yours just wanted to walk along the park and enjoy fishing but he told me to go alone just because he’s busy making my empire larger”
“haha but grandpa Fei, you have me right here. I can do those with you since I’m free for the time being..”
“really? you’re not saving lives today?”
“hmm nope, unless there’s an emergency, I won’t be there today”
“that’s really great ah? you can accompany this old man. Xiao Yin, why don’t you just marry my grandson? Then you can accompany me anytime I want. Think about it yeah?”
“don’t be silly grandpa Fei, I still have things to do”

knock2x*
A knock on the door was heard and in came Mr. Ling, carrying a bag with freshly cooked food from L’Morte de Greiche, a famous seafood restaurant.
“Ms. Lin, I brought food for you.”he said, gently shaking the paper bag in front of him “I presumed you haven’t had dinner yet”
“Thank you Mr. Ling. Have you come to take little Xinzhe?”
“ahh yes, I’m sorry for the bother.” Ling Chaun gently picked up his sleeping son, tilting his head slightly.
“No, it’s fine really. I am not against children”
“hmmm that’s a good trait for a fine lady like you” he smiled “well then, I shall take my leave. Enjoy your meal, Ms Lin”
“Have a safe trip Mr. Ling” she bowed
Ling Chaun carried his son outside, his assistant with him. He instructed for two bodyguards to stay for the night. He himself wouldn’t normally extend this same courtesy to others but for some reason he couldn’t quite comprehend, he felt a strange attachment to this young lady.
He walked away after quite some time and didn’t notice a man briskly walking to the room he just left.
“who–” the bodyguards were left speechless as the man in front of them clearly heeded them no attention as he opened the door and walked inside
“Mr.–” “it’s fine, let him in” Hui Yin cut him off
bodyguards: “….” what was with people cutting them off?
“very well, Ms Lin”
…
“Good evening Mr. Cheng” she observed the man in front of her. What was then a clean and professional face now had a subtle. His eyes were dark and had dark circles underneath, clearly from lack of sleep…
“en” he eyed the paper bag on her table
“that was given to me just now” she explained telling him it was unnecessary for him to bring food for her but still thanked him nonetheless
“have you eaten, Mr. Cheng?”
“…no”
“would you like to eat with me?” she gestured both the meals that were given to her hinting that it was for more than one person
“en” she chuckled at his response
‘this man is really….’ sigh
Hearing her chuckle made him momentarily forget that she had bandages wrapped on her arms and legs. It made him calm down.
Two days ago, when he called her, he was expecting her to pick up the call right away as that was what she usually did then to be greeted with “greetings, Mr. Cheng” but contrary to his expectations, she didn’t. He then tried to call her again but the call didn’t go through. This made him frown but soon, brushed it off as nothing. He didn’t get a wink of sleep trying to figure out why she didn’t return his calls even after a few hours. The next day, he tried calling her again. This time, he started to get worried, he himself didn’t know this. He called the company and asked if she appeared for work that day but was countered with a no. Again, he didn’t get an ounce of sleep.
Today when she finally called, he found out that she was in the hospital, he sighed in relief as now that he finally found out about her whereabouts. He forgot about everything else and just found a reason to see her.
It hurt him to see her like this, lying on bed with bandages. It didn’t quite fit well with him when he noticed his thoughts and fluctuations in emotions when it came to this woman in front of him. It was new to him.
“Mr. Cheng?”
“hmm?”
“would you like to rest?” Hui Yin asked, finishing up her dinner. He looked so worn out and sleepy, that she thought he would pass out anytime now.
“…” without saying anything, he laid his head on her lap and closed his eyes. She gently smoothed out his hair, caressing it slowly until he fell asleep with a peaceful look on his face.
If anyone were to come inside the room, they would find this not so perfect picture of theirs, heartwarming and peaceful. Just like one you’d see between husband and wife
