The Hero System - Chapter 12
The three entered the elevator and it started to descend. However, there were no bottoms or panel. One minute later, the elevator stopped and the door opened.
Jonah and Leo expected to see an underground city. Or a military base. However, they were greeted with a gigantic hall. There were many couches and tea tables with people chatting and drinking tea. The three walked out of the elevator.
Jonah could see there were different elevators in the hall. Apparently, that wasn’t the only entrance.
“Okay, let’s get both of you registered,” Ren said.
“Registered?” Jonah was confused.
“You don’t expect to go to another world like it was the shop next door right?” Ren almost laughed.
The three headed to the center of the hall. Jonah looked around and saw many people sitting and chatting. However, the weird thing was that a lot of them wore armor!
Even crazier, Jonah saw a couple of people holding their swords, spears, or bows! Some even held pistols and machine guns
“Hello, Miss Ren. What business brought you here today?” The receptionist said.
“Hello. I’d like to recommend two new members.”
“Very well. Please follow me to the testing hall.” The receptionist gestured and the group followed.
“Miss Ren, what does he mean by ‘testing’?” Leo was nervous. He would prepare for any test ahead normally.
“It’s just to confirm that you have awakened. Normal humans can’t go through the portal.”
Jonah had a bad feeling about this. It’s not like he wants to hide his strength, but he can’t explain how he reached the first stage of cultivation.
Jonah knew that Leo hasn’t reached it yet. He was about to though If not for the system, Jonah wouldn’t have reached it so easily.
Jonah speculated what is needed to awaken. If your spirit was below 20 points, you need to awaken by triggering your soul. Jonah had the system. And Leo had his reading/meditation. However, Leo didn’t have a cultivation technique so his spirit was still below 20.
“Miss Ren, we don’t have to be cultivators to go to Terra right?” Jonah asked in a way that made it look like he wasn’t a cultivator.
“No. You just need to prove you can use Spiritual Energy. The Spirit Organization wouldn’t usually examine your cultivation unless necessary. Because many spirit cultivators would rather hide their strength.” Ren explained as they reached a small room.
Jonah sighed in relief.
The room had only one table with a stone on it. The receptionist stood by the table and smiled toward the group before explaining.
“Please try to light up this stone with your magic energy.” The receptionist said. Ren looked at the two. Jonah also looked toward Leo and nodded. He then stepped forward.
Jonah realized one thing after controlling his spiritual energy. Other cultivators can’t know your cultivation or spirit if you don’t release your energy.
Jonah held the stone in his hand and started to picture the spiritual energy coming out of it. Then, the stone shone brightly. The receptionist nodded and wrote something on his tablet device.
Leo also stepped forward and passed the test. Then, the receptionist told them to follow him again reaching the previous hall. They walked back to the reception desk and a girl walked over. The girl then handed them a bracelet each. They took it with a bewildered expression.
“Tap it,” Ren said. The two did as she asked and touched the bracelets. Then, a panel appeared in front of each one.
“Name: Jonah Regon.”
“Rank: E-1”
“Credit: 100.”
“Address: E55 Room 05.”
Leo glanced at Leo’s and it was the same. His address was E55 Room 06. That means he lived next to Jonah. Jonah didn’t expect that he’d get a resident from the beginning.
The two followed obediently. The group walked for about 3 minutes passing through many hallways and security checks.
At last, they finally reached the so-called portal. Jonah and Leo finally confirmed Terra’s existence. The portal was a gate that was about 100 meters high and 50 meters wide. They can see that space literally deformed inside the gate. Jonah thought that this must be what a wormhole is.
“Okay, let’s go,” Ren said as she walked toward a vehicle. Under the vehicle, there were two white lines made of beams of light. The lines went into the wormhole.
The group sat inside the vehicle and the doors closed.
“Miss Ren, what’s the purpose of this vehicle?” Leo asked furrowing his brows.
“When living organisms go through the portal, there’s a slight chance of an incident, like diversion or mutation. This vehicle eliminates this possibility.”
Leo kept asking about what this vehicle was made from, he sounded quite interested. Jonah, on the other hand, was deeply pondering about the portal.
He didn’t understand how a wormhole can exist like that. Normally, it wouldn’t be this stable. He can only link it to another illogical thing, spiritual energy.
He had a hunch that spiritual energy and this portal are linked.
Jonah shook his head and decided to not think about it. He can do that later. The vehicle started moving heading toward the portal.
Jonah and Leo couldn’t help but break in a cold sweat. It was like a roller coaster slowly reaching its highest point, but when it goes down, they’ll be in a different world. They could feel their hearts rising to their throats. However, Ren was indifferent.
Jonah and Leo could see the portal getting closer slowly
Whooooooooosh
They didn’t even have to react when the scenery changed in front of them. At that moment, they forgot to let go of the breath they were holding. When they turned their heads around, they saw a scene that will forever be engraved deeply into their memories.
They saw an ancient city. Its tall building couldn’t be compared to the skyscrapers, but they had a unique feeling to them. The city spread far and wide. In the distance, they can see vehicles like their own also flying midair above the white lines and pass between the buildings. They can see vehicles coming in and out of some buildings while other passed them.
In the distance, they can also see many flying beasts with people on their backs. The people flew around heading in different directions.
However, that was not all. What amazed them the most was that some building were flying in midair!
Jonah and Leo finally exhaled. However, they didn’t divert their gazes of the surrounding. Because it was just too magical.
The two realized something and turned around. They saw a huge building with many exits. The portal was probably inside the building.
Ren slightly giggled when she saw this.
Soon, the vehicle finally stopped and the two snapped out of it. What replaced their feeling of astonishment was excitement.
They followed Ren out of the vehicle to what seemed like a train station, but with vehicles like their own. The kept looking around as they headed toward a reception desk.
“ID.” The receptionist said expressionlessly.
Ren scanned a device with her bracelet.
“Destination?”
“C7,” Ren said. The man nodded and gave her a ticket.
Jonah and Leo also did the same. The man didn’t ask them about their destination and gave each a ticket. It had three rows.
Spirit Vehicle: 023
Destination: E5 District.
Time: 17:15
“Okay, follow me,” Ren said before walking.
The group reached a hall where they sat down. Jonah looked around and saw a clock. It was 17:05.
“You guys need to head to your courtyard on your own. You’ll have roommates and they’ll probably explain things. If you need anything, head to the Spirit Organization and look for me.”
The two nodded. They knew that Ren has already done enough. They weren’t kids that need babysitting. Ren explained some things and left at 17:10.
“Bro, this is getting more exciting.” Leo was trembling with excitement. Jonah nodded approvingly. People get excited when they go to a different city, different country, and a different continent. However, they went to a different world! On top of that, this world was so magical.
The two started looking for the vehicle when it was 17:14. They rode on a vehicle and there were two other youths with them. Three minutes later, the vehicle stopped.
They got out of the vehicle and looked around. There were many courtyards with signs above them. The signs had E50, E51 going all the way to E59.
Apparently, E5 was a district with many courtyards. Jonah wondered if this has something to do with their E-1 Rank.
The two headed toward the E55 courtyard. They found an iron door with a lock like the one in the cave. They didn’t know what do. However, a light flashed scanning their bracelets, and a panel appeared showing their profiles. The door opened.
They walked through the hallway reaching a large living room. The living room had many couches and a large table in the middle with a round device on top of it.
The living room had many plants and paintings. It gave off a not so luxurious feeling but still looked pretty neat. There were two stairways leading to the second floor on each side of the room. Other than the entrance and the stairs, the room had three other doors.
There were four people sitting on the couches. Two guys and two girls. They looked at Jonah and Leo when they entered.
