The Hero System - Chapter 13
There were four people sitting on the couches. Two guys and two girls. They looked at Jonah and Leo when they entered.
“Hello?” Jonah said to break off the silence.
“Welcome! You must be the two new spirit trainees! Welcome, welcome!” One of the guys stood up and said with enthusiasm. He had a gigantic body and black hair. His eyebrows and sideburns were also thick.
“Yes. We’ve just reached here.” Leo nodded.
“I see! I see!” The guy laughed.
“Well, let me introduce you! I’m George Fernik. I come from the Earth Dragon Sect! You can just call me Gorilla!”
“Nice to meet you. My name is Jonah Regon and this is Leo Yohan.” Jonah nodded and introduced.
“Oh, let me introduce you to the rest! This Norlan Rakan! He comes from the Azure Bow Sect!” The skinny guy nodded with a smile.
“This is Sana Tao! She’s from the Holy Tree Sect!” The girl with the long brown hair nodded and smiled warmly.
“And lastly, this Yan Jeron! She’s from the Jeron family!” The short girl with short black hair nodded expressionlessly.
“What sects do you guys belong to?” Norlan asked.
“We don’t belong to any.” Jonah shook his head.
“Then organizations? Families?”
“None. We’re just normal people. ”
The group frowned. It’s not like normal people can’t awaken, but they’re usually weak at first. However, their talent is usually high since they can awaken by themselves. However, they usually awaken late that’s why you rarely see powerful young naturally awakened people.
“Is there something wrong?” Leo sensed something.
“Well, it’s not that we’re looking down at you you guys probably haven’t reached the first stage right?” Gorilla smiled helplessly.
“Indeed.” Jonah shook his head.
“That’s why we can’t take you with us to hunt. You see, every courtyard usually forms a hunting group. That’s why having powerful companions is usually safer.” Gorilla tried to be polite.
“That’s okay! We won’t burden you guys! You can form a group with others right?” Jonah said. He didn’t want to become the dead weight. And he figured that groups don’t need to be from the same courtyard.
“Well, we can” Gorilla seemed hesitant. Seeing how Jonah tried to think for their benefit, he felt guilty. He remembered how he was a burden the first time he came to this courtyard but other members helped him get stronger.
“It is fine, isn’t it? We can just make do with it until they get stronger.” Yan said.
“You guys are okay with it?” Gorilla was happy that someone else didn’t object.
“With hard work, I think they can catch up,” Sana said smiling.
“No objections.” Norlan spread his hands.
“Great! Jonah, Leo, we’ll try to help you out till you reach the first level!” Gorilla said reassuringly.
“Thanks, everyone,” Jonah said. As they were clueless, it helps if they had understanding teammates.
The group welcomed them and started giving them some advice as they sat together. Jonah liked having more friends who seem to be understanding. Leo was the same. The two learned a lot. Thankfully, there was a basic cultivation technique with Gorilla, so he gave it to them.
The two happily accepted it. Even though Jonah didn’t need it, he can now reveal his strength a bit by bit now. And with this, people won’t find it weird.
The six decided to head out to eat something, Jonah and Leo were also excited about this. They were anticipating this world’s food. Lucky, they had 100 credit as a start.
The group headed out and walked through the streets. Jonah and Leo were like tourists turning their heads at every new thing. They saw many different things, including beast.
They were walking when a rhino passed by. Even though it looked like a rhino, it had six feet and scales. The beast wasn’t hostile and was carrying some products, apparently working for a shop.
Soon, they reached the restaurant. It was quite simple but clean. There weren’t too many people either.
“This meal is on me! Let’s celebrate Jonah’s and Leo’s joining the team!” Gorilla laughed and said.
“Big brother Gorilla there’s no need!” Leo tried to refuse, but Gorilla was too persistent.
In the end, he still treated them for a meal. Jonah and Leo were fascinated by the food. They also felt their energy restoring as they ate. This was obviously no simple food.
After finishing eating, the others decided that Jonah and Leo needed a weapon. Jonah was also thinking of the same, so the group headed to a weaponry shop.
When they walked in, Jonah was amazed. There was all sort of weapons Swords, spears, sabers, whips, hammers, maces, halberds, battleaxes, pistols, rifles, and even grenades
However, Jonah noticed that the hot weapons were different from modern day’s weapons. They were slightly different and had a different aura.
“Welcome. How can I help you?” A middle-aged man said from behind the desk.
“Hello! We’d like to buy some weapons.” Gorilla said.
“Very well! Please pick!” The middle-aged man said as he gestured toward a screen on the desk. Gorilla nodded to Jonah and Leo and they went forward.
The screen had many different weapons, and below was their prices. Jonah wanted a spear so he picked the spears category.
“Five-Petal Spear 10 credit points.”
“Black Eagle Claw 20 credit points.”
“Blood thrust 30 credit points.”
Jonah saw many spears with different names. However, all of them had cool names. He decided to check the description.
In the description, Jonah saw a detailed explanation of each spear, even the materials. He noticed that the price is higher for higher level monsters that you can kill with the spear.
In the end, Jonah picked a plain looking spear, called Moonlight Butterfly, which can kill a Fifth Level Energy Condensing stage monster. He didn’t want to pick a weapon that would be useless after a few days. The price was an astonishing 70 credit points.
Leo also picked his weapon, which was a twin-pistols called Wild Tusks. It can kill a Third Level Energy Condensing Stage monster. However, the price was 60 credit points! Probably because they were two weapons instead of one.
“Leo, you know how to use a gun?”
“Just the basics, I used to hunt with my dad.”
Jonah nodded. Leo’s family had a small company and were well off. However, a couple of years ago, their company went bankrupt. Shortly after, Leo’s mother died leaving him and his dad. The two kept struggling afterward.
Even though Leo’s family was quite rich when Jonah met him, Leo was still quite modest. Jonah was always the poor kid in class but Leo still hung out with him.
The two scanned their bracelets and the purchase was done. Jonah received a long wooden box. When he checked inside, he saw silver colored spear. He nodded with satisfaction.
After going back to their courtyard, the two finally saw their rooms. It was a small room with one bed, table, and a bathroom. However, it was well furnished and looked quite nice.
“Cultivators sure have it good!”
Jonah said as he looked around the room. It was 19:03 now and it went dark. He noticed that this world has a different time zone.
At last, Jonah was able to rest. This day was too mentally exhausting. Now that he was alone, he wanted to take a rest from all of that.
Jonah decided to cultivate. He still has a quest to complete. Hopefully, this rare skill would be something useful. However, Jonah figured that the system didn’t give anything that is not useful. Even if he didn’t know what some things were for, he would still need them at times.
After 3 hours of cultivation, he was awakened by the system’s notification.
