The Hero System - Chapter 15
Jonah sold the last carcass for the day and decided to head home. He hunted 14 First Level Energy Condensing Stage monsters.
Jonah now understood that even though the cultivation stages were similar, the methods were different. Apparently, monsters also condense energy inside their bodies, but not by meditating, but killing other monsters and eating them.
Jonah had a bad feeling about this. If these monsters can do that, maybe humans too? The human heart never lacked its demons, so greed and thirst for power can make humans inhuman.
Jonah checked his bracelet. His credit was now 111 points. He caught 8 Podu and 6 Armored Raccoon. The raccoon was actually sold for 7 points!
[Ding! Quest Completed. 28 Upgrade Points received.] The system said. Jonah decided to check his Status Menu until he reaches home.
[Name: Jonah Regon]
[Age: 16]
[Level: 3]
[Cultivation: Energy Condensing (First Stage)]
[Spirit Points: 10/10]
[Experience points: 11/40]
[Upgrade Points: 44]
[Vitality: 19]
[Stamina: 17]
[Strength: 16]
[Agility: 21]
[Resistance: 15]
[Intelligence: 19]
[Charm: 12]
[Spirit: 30]
Jonah was extremely excited. Not only did he obtain Upgrade Points from the quest, he also leveled up! Furthermore, the system actually gave him 16 Upgrade Points when he leveled up from 2 to 3!
Jonah realized that the number of points you get when you level up is not fixed. With simple mathematics, he figured that the number of points he gets is the multiplication of the attribute by the level he just completed.
For example, when he leveled up from 1 to 2, he got 8 points. And when he leveled up from 2 to three, he got 16 points. So that meant when he completes the 3rd level, he’ll get 24 points!
This was not all of his gains. His spear mastery also leveled up!
[Spear Arts. Level 2: Proficiency with the spear.]
Even though the description was still the same, he can feel his movements are more fluid when he holds the spear!
Jonah knew this sudden increase in strength was only because of the circumstances. Because this was his first hunt in Terra, the system offered a reward to motivate him. Plus, the first levels are always the easiest to complete.
Jonah couldn’t wait till he gets home and upgrades his body!
When he walked into the courtyard, he bumped into the other four who were out hunting.
“Oh Jonah, where have you been?” Norlan asked.
“Hunting in the trainee forest,” Jonah said.
“Oh don’t put yourself in danger! Even if you reached the first stage of cultivation, you need to pick up a cultivation technique!” Gorilla said, concerned.
“It’s okay. I didn’t do anything dangerous!” Jonah said. The rest couldn’t say anything more. Jonah excused himself and went to his room. After he became a cultivator, he didn’t need to eat. Rather, cultivation can just restore his energy.
Their courtyard reached an agreement. Only after both Jonah and Leo reached the Second Level Energy Condensing Stage would they hunt as a group. Until then, the others would have to hunt by their own.
Jonah was grateful for his teammates. He was sure that he can reach the second level by tonight, he only needs to wait for Leo.
However, he knew that reaching the second level was also insufficient. It would only allow them to survive in the wild.
After sitting inside the room, Jonah pondered how he should disturb his points. He knew his attributes would be harder to raise after he gets stronger, so he needs to carefully choose since he’s still at the beginning.
Right now, Jonah had 44 Upgrade Points! However, he didn’t pour it all into his spirit. Jonah didn’t want to have a cultivation with a weak body. Because he’d be left behind by others who strengthen their body along with their cultivation. Thus, even though Jonah has a shortcut, it wasn’t reasonable to ignore other aspects.
“System, how many Spirit attribute points do I need to break through?”
[The user’s spirit needs to be at least 50 points.]
Jonah glanced at his Spirit and it was 30 right now. This way, he needs to pour 20 points to break through. When Jonah thought about, he realized it was impossible to reach 50 points without the Upgrade Points in only half a month.
With this, Jonah realized that the system didn’t want him to only cultivate, but also do heroic acts and help others.
Since he decided that 20 points would go to Spirit, he needs to think about how to allocate the other points. He still has 24 points.
Jonah checked his skills’ description.
[Spiritual Sense. Level 2. Level up: 35 points.]
[Evade. Level 2. Level Up: 25 Intelligence, 25 Agility.]
[Spear Arts. Level 2.]
[Basic Spirit Control Technique. Mastery (Beginner).]
[Void Energy Condensing Cultivation Technique. Mastery (Beginner).]
For the Evade skill to level up, he needs to allocate 6 for intelligence and 4 for agility. This way, he would still have 14 points to allocate. Jonah distributed them to the other attributes.
He knew Evade was only a basic skill, but it would be quite useful as he gets stronger and his agility would get harder to increase.

‘One point wouldn’t hurt anybody’ Jonah thought as he allocated a point to his charm. Which teenager wouldn’t want to have better looks?
[Confirm allocation?]
‘Confirm.’ Jonah looked at the clock and it was 20:22. Then, he fainted on his bed.
After 8 hours and 57 minutes, Jonah woke up. He felt dizzy at first but then his mind cleared. He looked at his body and found it to have some black impurities. He stood up and walked to the bathroom.
[Ding! Evade is now Level 3: Increase in agility and reflexes by 20% when dodging.]
[Ding! Spiritual Sense is now Level 4: sensing radius is now 20 meters.]
[Ding! You’ve reached the Second Level Energy Condensing Stage.]
[Ding! Side-Quest completed. Rare-level skill received: Telekinesis.]
“Yes! Yes! Yes!” Jonah was dumbstruck before joyfully shouting. He didn’t check the changes and rushed into the bathroom.
After taking off his clothes, Jonah could feel the difference. His this body now had some muscles. He washed his body and went into the bathtub. Then, he opened his Status Menu and Skills and Techniques Menu.

[Level: 3]
[Cultivation: Energy Condensing (Second Stage)]
[Spirit Points: 20/20]
[Experience points: 11/40]

[Evade. Level 3. Level Up: 35 Intelligence, 35 Agility.]
[Spear Arts. Level 2.]
[Telekinesis Level 1. Level Up: 70 Spirit.]
[Void Energy Condensing Cultivation Technique. Mastery (Beginner).]
Jonah was stunned. He didn’t think breaking through would increase his other attributes! He was really glad about the changes! Plus, his charm was raised by two points!
Jonah could feel his heart beating fast when he looked at his new skill. ‘It couldn’t be the famous telekinesis right?’
[Telekinesis: Move objects around the user in 3 meters radius using spiritual energy.]
‘Holy shit! HOLY FUCKING SHIT!’ Jonah screamed in his mind and kept staring at the description to see if he was dreaming.
Jonah trembled with excitement. What was the spear user biggest weakness? His inability to defend himself if the opponent got too close to him! However, with telekinesis
Jonah looked around and saw a bowl in the bathroom. He tried to focus on the bowl and move. The bowl rose a little but then fell.
Jonah frowned. He felt that he can no longer move the bowl more than this. He was sure the bowl was less than 3 meters away.
‘Wait maybe it’s the weight?’ Jonah thought. He looked for a smaller object. In the end, he took off the shampoo cap and placed it in his hand.
Jonah focused on the cap and imagined that it would move. Then, the cap floated midair! Jonah was overjoyed. Even though the skill had a weight limit, he can still use it.
Jonah started moving the cap around. He figured that anything under the weight limit is under his full control!
Jonah dried his body and walked out of the bathroom. He wore his clothes and looked into the mirror.
“Dammit Jonah, aren’t you becoming too handsome?”
Jonah always wanted to say this in front of the mirror. However, only when he did it did he realize how embarrassing it is. He shook his head and decided to erase this dark memory of his mind.
“Hmm?” Yan looked at Jonah who walked into the kitchen. She felt that something was different about him but couldn’t describe it.
‘Did he become more handsome? No, who would become better looking overnight?’ Yan thought but she quickly shot down that idea. She couldn’t help but question if it was just her seeing him differently.
