The Hero System - Chapter 19
“Mister Jonah, please rest here. I’m sure my father would love to meet you. However, he still has things to do. So please rest here until then.” Lia said as they walked into a room.
“Okay. Oh, and please call me Jonah. No need for formalities.” Jonah told Lia. He didn’t really like being called a mister. If she kept calling him like that, he wouldn’t be able to relax.
“That That doesn’t seem appropriate.” Lia seemed surprised.
“Sis, call him Brother Jonah!” Kiwi tugged on her sleeve and said cheerfully. He seemed quite happy that Jonah would stay.
“Uh Okay.” Lia helplessly agreed.
The two of them then left leaving Jonah alone. It was still noon as they only needed three hours to reach the city. Jonah looked around the room and it was quite big with a king-size bed. He was finally able to relax.
‘System, receive the item.’
Without the system answering, the air slightly trembled in front of Jonah. And just like the first item, a white light sphere appeared and started sucking air like a whirlpool.
[Ding! Item obtained. Invisibility Talisman: Allows the user to hide his aura, spiritual energy, and physical body for three minutes. The item is one-time consumable. Supply with 1 Spirit Points to activate. Can only work on cultivators under The Soul Core Formation Stage. Rank: Rare.]
‘Damn!’ Jonah had his jaw dropped as he held the object that came out of the light. It was a metal piece that had engravings on it. If Jonah didn’t use his spiritual energy to feel the spiritual aura around it, he would have thought it was just garbage. He wouldn’t expect this item to be so heaven-defying!
However, not many things can be heaven-defying after Jonah got the system. If he thought about it, this Talisman was possible for cultivators to make. For instance, bending light can hide his physical appearance which was an easy feat for Energy Materialization Stage cultivators who has the light affinity. There might be some sort of barriers or illusions that make it hide spiritual aura and energy.
Nonetheless, Jonah knew this item was super useful. If he faced a stronger opponent in the Energy Materialization Stage, he can ambush them or run away by using this!
‘System, what about my needles?’
[Since the user uses spiritual energy to move them, they will also be invisible.]
Jonah kept the Talisman in his hidden pockets. He decided to look for Lia for lunch when the door knocked.
“Sir, the king wants to see you.” Jonah recognized the voice. It was the attendant’s that he met earlier.
“Okay.”
Jonah was quite nervous. Until now, only Kiwi knew he was human. Since Kiwi was a child and Jonah saved him, he didn’t have any prejudice against humans. However, that might not be the case for others. If the king found out and he was ordered to be executed, he would be dead by tomorrow morning. That’s also one of the reasons Jonah wanted to run when Lia invited him. Alas, she was too persistent and didn’t look like she’d take no for an answer.
Jonah followed the attendant until they reached a huge door. The attendant stood on the side and bowed while gesturing toward the door signaling Jonah to go in.
Jonah walked in while pondering all the possible outcomes. He stimulated every course of action possible. His guard was up and he was ready to unleash his skills at any moment.
“Welcome!” A thunderous roar took Jonah by surprise that he backed away and used his Telekinesis.
“Father!” Lia shouted.
“Haha!” The bearded elf sitting on the golden throne laughed.
Jonah had a weird expression. Luckily, he had the mask on. This bearded elf seemed to be the king? He had a blonde hair and beard with blue eyes. However, he seemed young and vigorous. There were some wrinkles under his eyes that gave a wise appearance. Jonah could see that Kiwi looked a lot like him.
“Young one. No need to be vigilant.” The bearded elf grinned.
Jonah withdrew his spiritual energy and walked forward. Now that he looked around, Lia and Kiwi were also here. Jonah could also see a young elf sitting next to the king with a smiling face. He looked to be in his 20s.
“Greetings,” Jonah slightly bowed his head.
The king nodded. He didn’t seem to mind that Jonah didn’t kneel. However, others were different.
“Shouldn’t you kneel in front of your king?”
The young elf’s smile was replaced with a frown. Jonah was about to answer but the king spoke before him.
“That’s only if I was his king.” The king smiled and said. Everyone was stunned, including Lia. Only Kiwi seemed to be unconcerned, maybe because he didn’t understand what he meant.
Jonah was also stunned. He was found out that easily? He thought they’d force him into taking off his mask. However, the king found out the moment he arrived. Luckily, the king seemed to not have a prejudice against humans.
‘System, how did he see through the mask?’
[The mask isn’t omnipotent. It has a restriction of only working against cultivators at the Soul Core Formation Stage and below.]
“I’m sorry for the disrespect, your majesty.” Jonah took off his hood and the mask with a helpless smile.
Everyone was stunned. They didn’t expect a human to be the one talking fluently with their language! Furthermore, he spoke with no dialects! That’s why they initially thought this man was a scholar! Only two kinds of people speak fluently without dialects, scholars, and royalty!
Common folks wouldn’t bother about how they talked. And if one of them studied hard to talk with no mistakes, they’d become a scholar. Now, however, a human spoke like that?
Truth is, Jonah didn’t know how he talked. He understood everything he said and everything the elves said. When he concentrates on certain words, they seem foreign yet familiar.
“No need to apologize.” The king said ignoring everyone’s shock. He seemed to have known since the beginning.
“Thank you.”
“I should be the one thanking you for saving my son. Tell me, what is that you want as your reward?”
Jonah was surprised. He didn’t think the king would be so straightforward. However, this seemed quite a normal thing judging by everyone’s expression.
“I don’t need anything,” Jonah answered. He didn’t save Kiwi for rewards. Even if the system gave him nothing, he’d still save him.
“A human who isn’t greedy? What a joke.” The young elf mocked with disdain.
“Daniel.” The king’s smile didn’t vanish but his tone was stern. The young elf appeared to be upset but stopped talking.
“Are you sure?” The king looked at Jonah.
“Yes.”
The king went silent. He couldn’t understand why this youth would save someone out of his way. There was one possibility. That this youth was a genuinely kind person.
“What’s your name?”
“My name is Jonah Regon.”
“Nice to meet you, Jonah. I’m Rodrago Elrin.”
“It’s my honor to meet your majesty.”
“Un. However, I’d like to express my gratitude.” Something flashed and went toward Jonah. Jonah raised his hand to catch it.
“This is” Jonah was confused as he held onto the thing the king gave him.
“This token represents that you’re a friend of the elves.” The king smiled.
Everyone was surprised as they didn’t think the king would give him a Token of Friendship. With this, you can walk unhindered in any city in their kingdom!
“I see. Thank you.” Jonah smiled and kept it. He didn’t mind being the elves’ friend.
“Okay Jonah, let’s eat! Haha!” The king laughed again. Attendants seemed quite prepared as they brought a table with many delicious looking meals. A minute later, the hall turned into a banquet.
“Brother, here! Here!” Kiwi said as he cheerfully patted the seat next to his. Jonah smiled and walked over to sit.
The king sat in the middle of the table with Lia and Daniel on the side. Kiwi sat next to Lia and Jonah sat next to him. Soon, everyone left leaving only the royal family and Jonah.
“Brother, tell me about your home!” Kiwi said was expectant eyes.
Jonah wanted to talk about his world but didn’t know if this world knew about Earth. He was confused until he saw the king smile at him and nod.
“Well, I’m not really from this world” Jonah began to tell Kiwi about Earth, how he got here, and everything about his life, even his mother. This world’s intelligent races seemed knowledgeable about Earth, but no one really knows the details. They also never went there.
The feast continued for a whole hour! They talked a lot and it was quite fun. Kiwi and Lia were quite close to Jonah as they kept asking him. However, Daniel kept his signature smile distancing himself from the conversation. The king seemed uninterested but also talked a bit to Jonah.
After they were done, Jonah finally returned to his room. Since he had nothing to do, he decided to cultivate until it was time to sleep. However, Kiwi and Lia came before he even started!
“Brother Jonah” Lia said shyly.
“Yeah?”
“I want us to share” Lia paused as she looked embarrassed.
Jonah felt that something was amiss. ‘Could this bro with zero experience attract such beauty?’
