The Hero System - Chapter 35
When Jonah saw the group, he finally sighed in relief. He then bolted toward Sira who was treating Leo with a basic healing skill and the youth sitting next to them. After the monsters started fleeing and focusing on Jonah, this youth finally came back to his senses. He then sat down resting as he looked at Jonah with admiring eyes.
Jonah carried Leo on his back and sprinted toward the dumbfounded group.
“Please, take care of my friend.”
The group finally snapped out of their shock and hurried to treat Leo. Even though they were caught by surprise, they can still get over it. After all, the world didn’t lack the proud sons of the heavens that cultivated since young with the best resources given to them.
“I’ll take care of him. However, he won’t be able to continue the assessment.” The young woman looked at Leo’s wound and said.
“It’s okay, he’ll pass,” Jonah said before turning around to leave.
He didn’t worry about that since Leo would get 25% of the points from earlier. He still had other things to do. Jonah walked toward Leo’s teammate.
“What’s your name?”
“Ben.”
“I’m Jonah. What happened?” Jonah wanted to figure out what happened from Ben since it was obvious that this wasn’t just an accident.
Ben started to carefully tell what happened. Even though he didn’t like to talk much, he has already recognized Jonah as a powerful person.
When Jonah heard the story, his gaze went several times colder. Since it was like that, he has no reason to hold back anymore.
“Sira, I think you should team up with Ben. I have other things to do.”
Since Jonah wanted to take care of the black-haired youth before the assessment ends, he didn’t want to drag others into his own problems.
Sira nodded without hesitation. After all, she wasn’t that close to Jonah to actually exact revenge with him. Treating his friend was already enough to repay him for teaming up. Jonah also understood this and this was how he thought.
“Does he have a person that wants to harm him?” The young woman came questioning. She was obviously referring to Leo.
Jonah shook his head. After all, he had no evidence. His only proof was Ben’s story. Even though he believed him, that didn’t mean others would do the same. Jonah trusted his words mainly because he was loyal. After all, he didn’t abandon his teammate and run for his life. He chose to risk his life rather than living as a coward.
Another reason why he didn’t tell the young woman was that he wanted to take care of it by himself. Even though Jonah never actually killed someone before and he refused to do it, this youth gave him no other choice. After all, if he didn’t kill him today, he might get killed tomorrow. What he did to Leo wasn’t just to injure him, but also kill him.
Jonah looked at his map and darted toward the nearest supply station. He needed to prepare first.
The young woman sighed when she saw this. How can she not realize what Jonah wanted to do? However, she couldn’t tell him to stop since his friend almost got killed.
But she’ll do her job. If she received any information about Jonah attacking someone, she’d stop him. Furthermore, the chances of him actually killing the culprit during the assessment were slim. After all, the area he needs to search was gigantic! How can he easily track the culprit?
Before Jonah reached the station, he took out his mask and wore it. He didn’t want anyone to know what he was going to buy. Thankfully, his bank account was suspended for the assessment. Thus, no one can trace the transaction back to his account.
Jonah bought several things. After he packed them in his bag, he sat in the lounge checking the system’s notifications.
During these six hours, he leveled up four times. Three from gaining experience points, and one from completing a challenge.
[Name: Jonah Regon]
[Age: 16]
[Level: 8]
[Cultivation: Energy Condensing Stage (Third Level)]
[Spirit Points: 40/40]
[Experience points: 113/1280]
[Upgrade Points: 176]
[Heroism Points: 26]
[Vitality: 56]
[Stamina: 47]
[Strength: 49]
[Agility: 61]
[Resistance: 41]
[Intelligence: 40]
[Charm: 25]
[Spirit: 135]
[Challenge: Save 16 people. Reward: Level up!]
The first two rescues were Kiwi and the king, the second two were Leo and Ben. Thus, he leveled up. However, although it sounds an easy way to level up, it gets harder with time. To complete this challenge, he needs to save 16 more people!
Even though he has 176 upgrade points right now, he can’t use them since he’d be knocked out for nearly 9 hours. Thus, he can only rely on the skill he got from the cross-level killing of the Silver Fur Wolves.
[Spirit Tracking: Being able to follow the remains of the spiritual energy of a person. The tracks cannot be seen if the person has left the scene for over an hour. Level Up: 50 intelligence. Rank: Rare.]
Normally, Jonah wouldn’t gain a rare skill from cross-level killing. However, he killed a bunch of them and that’s why he was rewarded with a rare skill.
Jonah realized this was similar to how his Hero-Mode worked. After he kills a monster, the system would use the same method to extract a skill, that’s a sum of memories, and integrate them into him. Thus, granting him a skill. This was similar to how his Hero-Mode worked. However, he couldn’t integrate others’ memories into himself. At least, not now.
This is also probably why he was able to get a rare-ranked skill. It seemed the system used all of the wolves’ memories to integrate this skill.
‘System, mark the two youths from this morning with purple on the map.’
[Done.]
Jonah left the station and headed toward the direction Leo and Ben ran from. He knew about this from Ben. Thankfully, it hasn’t been an hour since the youth was there. Thus, Jonah was able to track him down.
When Jonah used his Spirit Tracking, he was able to see the remains of two spiritual energy. Furthermore, he can see them in a different color each.
Jonah followed the tracks for half an hour before finally reaching the two youths. When he saw what they were doing, he frowned.
GUUUUUUUUUUEEEEEE
The limbless Podu screeched and wailed in pain. However, he could only struggle on the ground since he couldn’t even lift himself up.
“Haha, that’s for trying to sneak attack me!” The black haired youth laughed as he kicked the limbless Podu.
“Isaac, we need to seriously hunt. After all, this is still an assessment.” The brown-haired youth reminded.
“No worries. We still have time, let’s have some fun!” Isaac laughed and pierced the Podu’s head with his sword.
Jonah felt disgusted. Even though he also killed many monsters, he didn’t torture them. His hate for this youth only escalated.
‘Hero-Mode, activate!’
Jonah promised himself one thing. If he ever wanted to kill someone, he’d first use the Hero-Mode to check if this person actually deserves to die. After all, Jonah didn’t want to kill others for the smallest reasons. Of course, this youth has already crossed the line when he tried to kill Leo.
[Hero-Mode: Activated.]
Jonah vision remained the same but Isaac had a small hole in the middle of his heart. Jonah focused on it and the knowledge of his misdeeds surfaced.
Jonah unconsciously gritted his teeth when he learned what this youth has done. He hesitated no longer and threw the Talisman he bought toward the two.
When the Talisman landed, a spiritual barrier appeared enclosing the youth. Allowing no spiritual energy or thing to get out!
Remember, if we get 15-10 ranking, the chapters would increase next week. Enjoy and vote!
