The Hero System - Chapter 38
“Yan? What’s wrong?” Jonah asked as he saw the serious expression Yan had.
“I want to ask you something, mind if we go in?” Yan said with a dead-serious expression.
“Sure.”
The two sat down. Yan sat on the chair while Jonah on the bed. Jonah, being a normal teenager, had some thoughts at first. However, when he saw Yan expression, he knew it was something else.
“Is there”
“Would you like to join my Jeron family?” Yan casually asked.
However, Jonah was stunned. ‘Join?’
‘What do you mean?”
“You probably don’t know this because you’ve just joined. But TSO isn’t all there is about the cultivation world. There are tournaments, resources, dungeons and many things more that sects, families, and organizations of all kinds fight four. Thus, scouting talents is a normal thing.”
“So you deem me as talented?” Jonah raised a brow. Yan didn’t answer but simply nodded.
Jonah went into deep thought before asking, “Why would I join your family?”
“Many reasons. Resources, skills, techniques, and wealth. There are very few things that we can’t provide you with.”
‘Well, it’s indeed tempting but’ Jonah shook his head.
“You’re just a commoner with no background. It would be a wise move to join a power that can protect you.”
Jonah knew Yan didn’t discriminate against him. It was just her way of trying to tempt him. “I’m sorry. If I ever think about joining someone, I’ll consider your family.”
Even though disappointed, Yan nodded and left the room. Jonah finally relaxed and was about to upgrade his body when someone knocked.
“Yes?”
“Jonah, I’m Norlan…”
Like earlier, Norlan also invited him. Jonah rejected. Then came Gorilla Jonah was speechless. Only Sana didn’t invite him. After all, her sect was women-only.
‘It seemed the cultivation world also has a political side to it’ Jonah thought.
Like normal organizations, the cultivation values the next generation. After all, a talented generation meant powerful future leaders.
Jonah finally had the time to check his stats.
[Name: Jonah Regon]
[Age: 16]
[Level: 8]
[Cultivation: Energy Condensing Stage (Third Level)]
[Spirit Points: 40/40]
[Experience points: 113/1280]
[Upgrade Points: 176]
[Heroism Points: 26]
[Vitality: 57]
[Stamina: 48]
[Strength: 50]
[Agility: 62]
[Resistance: 42]
[Intelligence: 41]
[Charm: 25]
[Spirit: 136]
Jonah sat down cross-legged to disturb his points. After all, he can’t just pour them all into his spirit. First, he also needs to raise his vitality and resistance. Second, he felt like his body can’t handle another breakthrough at the moment.
‘System, how many points do I need to break through?’
[Host needs a total of 240 points in the spirit attribute.]
‘240? Isn’t that more than usual?’ Jonah was confused. He opened the life network and read about the difficulties of the cultivation levels for the energy condensing stages.
After a bit of research, he was able to find a detailed article about it. It seems that there are 9 minor, 2 semi-major, and 1 major bottlenecks in the energy condensing stages. The minor ones were between levels. Starting from the 20 spirit points bottlenecks that would make you a cultivator until the bottleneck between the 8th and 9th level. The semi-major ones were after the 3rd and the 6th bottleneck. After breaking through a semi-major bottleneck, cultivation would be more difficult. The body would require more spiritual energy to reach its limit. Jonah concluded this was the reason why he needs 240 attribute points.
If Jonah wanted to make his spirit points reach 240, he needs 104 points for that. His vitality needs to reach 80 which would require another 23 points. His resistance needs to be 48 so he needs another 6 points. Summing everything together, Jonah would need to spend 133 of his 176 points. However, he wouldn’t do that for now. After all, a person can’t just jump between cultivation stages. At the very least, he needs to stay in the third level for a while. This would also stabilize the energy inside of his body.
Thus, Jonah allocated his spirit to reach 200, his vitality 80, and his resistance 48. He still had another 83 points. He decided to save 40 if he ever needed to breakthrough. The rest of the points, he allocated to intelligence and agility! Other than his charm, his intelligence was the lowest. Furthermore, even though his cultivation technique increases it, it was less than the others.
After disturbing his points, his stats became the following.
[Name: Jonah Regon]
[Age: 16]
[Level: 8]
[Cultivation: Energy Condensing Stage (Third Level)]
[Spirit Points: 40/40]
[Experience points: 113/1280]
[Upgrade Points: 40]
[Heroism Points: 26]
[Vitality: 80]
[Stamina: 50]
[Strength: 50]
[Agility: 80]
[Resistance: 50]
[Intelligence: 62]
[Charm: 25]
[Spirit: 200]
He also allocated some to his extra points to the other attribute. Even though he can just raise them through cultivation, it was like a boost that would give him a body stronger than his cultivation. Thus, even though he’d be only a third level, his status would become almost 4th level like. This way, he won’t raise suspicion but he’d still have the strength to protect himself.

Jonah’s head was filled with notifications the moment he woke up. Like always, he had to take a bath after he allocated his points. This has become a habit since upgrading would remove the waste from his body.
After the bath, Jonah checked the notifications and was overjoyed. He changed his clothes and went downstairs.
“Oh, good morning!”
Gorilla and the rest were having breakfast when Jonah entered the kitchen. Only Leo was in his room resting.
“Morning! Are you guys going to hunt?” Jonah said as he put the toast in the toaster.
“Yeah, we’ll wait for Leo’s recovery till we hunt as a group. You can also take the day off.” Norlan nodded.
“Okay, take care!” Jonah smiled and started eating.
During breakfast, the group talked about the different professions and how much money can be made of them. Jonah was quite interested as he wanted to gain as much as he can.
After breakfast, Jonah called a Spirit Vehicle and went toward the city’s market, Cultivators Paradise! It was a market with many shops and guilds that was the core of the city.
Jonah had one goal, Talismans!
